A new coach, the State Cup...and the future of WTs

The timing of the State cup merging of Wests/BRET into a WTs reserve grade unit is very convenient imo for the incoming new head coach.
Regardless of where we all stand on this matter ( I have mixed feelings and always will…see pros & cons when I think with head and heart).....I think it is a bit of a blessing for the new bloke

Hopefully the division within the club & fan base is lessened even further, hopefully with this move the entire WTs three grades are all on the same page and the club as a whole can grow and really move forward.

Its an exciting time, lots of unknowns and ????s not unlike I remember around '99 & '00
Ive become disheartened greatly this last season, not just from moves from this club but many issues in the NRL itself....I want action not words and riddles as weve come to expect....I want to see the words backed up on the field, if thats not possible then just zip it until they can.....but this is a new chapter, a new era....some great young prospects coming thru, some great old champs in Robbie & Benji beginning to wind it down...

I just wonder when we can really say, **yep - weve arrived**....I dunno if we can just yet, 13 years - respect of peers and oppostion will allow us to do that

I think the unified state cup team will be a big help in forging the WT's into a stronger club.

It never sat well with me, especially in the early days, when we would have WT's team mates playing against each other for their "aligned" team - Balmain or Wests.

Time to pull it all together and be one (as much as we can given we still play at three different grounds!!).

I think it's an exciting opportunity for the right coach - not only do they get a WT's team that is chock full of rep players but we have some of the best young talent around - some of which have already tasted first grade - Sironen, Koribete etc.

It is a exciting time stepping into the unknown again.

I also think my feelings towards this season were made worse by my feelings on the NRL's decisions this season as well

Yep, the times are definitely uncertain, but extremely exciting.

I too have been somewhat disillusioned with this year, and am very open and understanding that drastic measures needed to be taken.

Hoping that the two Ego's of the club give the new coach the respect and a chance to shape us into a competitive team again.

Actually looking forward to next year, with no heightened expectations.

Is Helmsy Tim Sheens?

It's quite funny really. We punt the man Tim Sheens, who is responsible for pulling this team together with colleagues and has struggled to implement the unified lower grade teams - due to factions, which has always been his vision. He was the right coach. Perhaps others within the club, players and some management need to take a good look at themselves regarding these above mentioned issues. Sheens has been used as the scapegoat.

BTW, it was totally acceptable to allow Beau and Rhino to go - thanks for your efforts over the years boys. Go Weststigers!

Im a staunch balmain man but i belive this is the way forward im now a staunch weststigers fan and belive we all need to pull in the same direction.A strong state cup team and a strong 20's can only be good for the 1sts team and ultimately thats what we all need not bickering between balmain and wests we are one now pull in the same direction and hold onto your memories but lets all be one once and for all.

Spot on statement Ink, the new bloke is going to have a tough enough job as it is. I heard a good quote yesterday watching the AFL & it reminded me of all the constant statements being made from our players that failed to back it up on the field. It was "There's a big difference between wanting it & doing it" or something along those lines.

Yep - we've arrived, at least I think so.
1\. We have won a premiership (would like more)
2\. We have made the top 8 a few times (more than some, less than others)
3\. Respect of peers and opposition? What do you mean Ink? The other team players have regularly said that they expect hard games from the Tigers (win or lose) - Respect? Opposition - what do you expect?

Do I respect the other teams in the comp? Not really because I could come up with a lot disrespectful incidents from every one of them - starting with Souths in 1908\. If I was a Magpies diehard I would not look back on the 1963 GF with much happiness. OK, all stand alone incidents and anyone could get "nit-picky". How many times have I read on this forum about the disgraceful behaviour of opposition supporters? Do I respect Manly for pillaging and raping not only Souths but Wests in the 70's and 80's, no.

Respect is an individual thing and must be earned. I believe that the Wests Tigers, as a team, have earned respect from all the other teams in the comp. Does our administration have their respect? I would expect that some would admire what we, as a joint venture, have achieved in a short period of time. Do they all? Who knows and who cares.

I respect the Wests Tigers and that's all that matters to me. They will make errors, they will make unpopular decisions - but the Wests Tigers are family to me, and family stick tight.

A coach hasn't been picked and won't be for weeks
No ones been interviewed as yet but they have the applicants. Nothing more nothing less

I dont believe were respected…..I believe other clubs and players dont know what they'll get, theyre wary cause on our day we can be good, but I dont think we have uniform respect for consistency, toughness and attitude...we get walked over too often for that to happen
We turn up occasionally, we go missing often, our defence has generally always been weak as P, we play better in a touch footy type environment than a tough hard forwards battle...that doesnt earn you respect- imo

We certainly do not command respect. Our forwards are seen as pussies and for the most part rightly so….ouyr backs as hit and miss.

I think Robbie is respected and Benji is feared. No one else in the team is worth a serious mention.

With the amount of talent coming through and the sucess they have had this year, the only way is forward is a unified wests tigers outfit through all grades. Forget Wests, forget Balmain. We are the Wests Tigers and that is all that matters.

no champ , balmain will always have a part , a amjor part just like they did today , yes they lost but it was still good to bring home the BALMAIN TIGERS ,

LOL…denial
Youre forgetting Ryde Eastwood
Youre forgetting the Wests players in the team
Denial
Let it go and move forward, grow...otherwise you stagnate and die

Just goes to show that not everyone stuck in a time warp are ex-Maggies. Step into 2012, life is so much better

Haha taking all of our best reserve graders and forcing them to play for BRET does not make them a Balmain side. Neither Balmain, nor western suburbs should be in the NSW cup…just a unified Wests Tigers side representative of both clubs.

I'm a Wests Tigers fan. We should only be one club and we should act as a club. I think a big problem under Sheens was that the NRL team and state cup teams were completely segregated and different (tho nto entirely his fault). We should be one pool of players, one club culture from which we field two teams - the best in the NRL and the reserves in the state cup. Instead of these 25 and those 25, it should be these 50.

i can see where you are coming from , but , balmain for me will always be part off the tigers , we own the tigers name , and the black and gold and this is alll wests tigers HAVE TO OFFER , when they market the club , the bird dont mean nothing , and all the wests supporters i dont mean your team did not mean anything , its simple we are the tigers , that is what we are called on tv , we are not called the magpies ,
