Was this the second of these nights theyve held this year?
I think there was one at ANZ earlier yeh?
I didnt see anything about this one promoted
They postponed it to last night. Only the one event.
This one seemed a whole lot more in depth than last year's, where it seemed very much a dinner with speeches from the coaches. Love the different tack they took with the video sessions etc.
Agree there was little promotion of this one - had no idea it was last night and it was sold out. Will definitely go next year
Thanks Alex
And thanks McCarry….a great read...youve convinvced me to attend next year if theres one.
I can't wait to watch a game to see the little things they talked about.
This got me.
Cheers guys, Happy to share. Ink, the video part was genuinely great. I love getting to know the game better and seeing the finer points of defensive play and attacking structures.
After attending last night I am wondering if there is an opportunity to do these nights more often but lower key. Last night they went all out on players, staffing, drinks, food etc.
Perhaps there is an opportunity to leverage the work the video team do each week for the team. The club could put on a video night (Wednesday or so) once per month or so. Members only, you'd make it $50 pp and limit it to 100 members (max). Basic snacks only.
The format would be intro from one of the assistant coaches talking about last weeks game at a high level. The coach would then talk about the game plan at a high level and run through some of the specific roles players had in the game. Ultimately the preparation would be minimal as the coaches are preparing this for the post game review with first grade anyway.
The video session would then review evidence of the game plan working, some key plays defensive and attacking. What went well and what went poorly would be discussed (appropriately) by the assistant coach specifically teaching us the finer points of the game. We would then be able to watch the games with a far deeper connection to the team and appreciate the game on a new scale.
The audience could ask questions around the plays, structures, though be 'discouraged' from expressing opinions on players form, performance etc.
I would go regularly. Im not sure if its just me though.
