A Night with the coaches

Gavet should be right after the bye, they're not risking it cause he tore his hammy completely off the bone.

An unnamed player confirmed the culture change is largely due to benji leaving and said the divide in the playing groups was attributed to him.

Bodene hates playing in the centres.

Someone confirmed that Lodge had an altercation with someone at Melbourne, however it wasn't Bellamy. That 'someone' said he was a certain first grader along with brown, Moses, hoeter, graham, cherrington, and a few others.

Braith's job is to lead the team forward for the first few tackles then hand over to brooks to run the last few.

thanks for the info! gives a lot more insight into potter's decisions as well as the team as a whole.

Wow, you got more info out of the players than I did, I asked potter about Gavet and he said he probably won't play this week and they will see his progress later in the week like Thursday, but yea he should be ok after the bye

The club did everything they could to make us feel welcome all night. Beers and food was included and was plentiful. The players were warm and friendly. Being a member truly is the line that divides.

I felt more part of the club.

I spoke to Blair at length. I was quite impressed. Very nice guy. He was clear that the culture had improved, talking in some detail that everyone was buying into playing for each other and not them self. He talked about his role especially it being consistent, working on his attack including his offload. It is easy to see that his stats won't reflect his effort largely due to his role especially in defence.

His eyes lite up talking about competition for spots especially Sue. It was clear to see he feels pressure and is motivated by it.

He didn't have much to say about players coming through. I think he only concentrates on the top 25 and doesn't watch 20s much.

The video sessions confirmed some of the detail around the little roles in a game that most of us miss. I can't wait to watch a game to see the little things they talked about.

Payten sounded like he has a good head on him as did Kidwell, though as expected Kidwell emphasises tough as his approach.

Deano is a very nice guy. Very well spoken, friendly personable. He's the only one all night that I thought I could hire in a post football business role.

I can confirm Bodenes comment that his preferred spot is not centres. The contract stuff is in progress. He gave some standard replies about all the young guys signing and it is exciting where the club is going.

Liam said he is good to go. Said that there is no way concussion is going to take him out of the game long term. He doesn't get headaches from his head knocks. He genuinely didn't seem bothered by long term. As expected he was pretty funny.

Sauce is a monster. He is so much bigger that the others that were there. Seeing Fulton's size reminds me how much heart he has. He is also another player where the video session showed some of the little things that make a big difference.

Potter spoke well. He seemed friendly and less wooden. It looked like he has settled in and is getting more confident. I saw him, Liam and Sauce sharing a joke.

I heard Koro is going…

Bailey did the intro and genuinely sounded like he was doing the weather. Sounded inauthentic and robotic.

All in all a great night. I loved the final bit where we all went down the tunnel and onto the field. They had eye of the tiger on and then in the tunnel had crowd noise going. Even knowing it was just sound effects I still got the buzz.

Well done Tiges. Thanks for a great experience

They postponed it to last night. Only the one event.

This one seemed a whole lot more in depth than last year's, where it seemed very much a dinner with speeches from the coaches. Love the different tack they took with the video sessions etc.

Agree there was little promotion of this one - had no idea it was last night and it was sold out. Will definitely go next year

Mccarry ..thanks for all that information ..I was going to attend but didn't,t get around to it .If there is one next year defiantly will be attending sounds like a good night and meeting players ,coaches and seeing how things work . It would defiantly shed some light on how the dynamics of the team works well done.

Sounds like a great night. Will have to attend next year's one for sure.

Where was it held and how long did it go for? Was it sit down or did you get to stand around and talk to all/any of the players and coaching staff?

Cheers guys, Happy to share. Ink, the video part was genuinely great. I love getting to know the game better and seeing the finer points of defensive play and attacking structures.

After attending last night I am wondering if there is an opportunity to do these nights more often but lower key. Last night they went all out on players, staffing, drinks, food etc.

Perhaps there is an opportunity to leverage the work the video team do each week for the team. The club could put on a video night (Wednesday or so) once per month or so. Members only, you'd make it $50 pp and limit it to 100 members (max). Basic snacks only.

The format would be intro from one of the assistant coaches talking about last weeks game at a high level. The coach would then talk about the game plan at a high level and run through some of the specific roles players had in the game. Ultimately the preparation would be minimal as the coaches are preparing this for the post game review with first grade anyway.

The video session would then review evidence of the game plan working, some key plays defensive and attacking. What went well and what went poorly would be discussed (appropriately) by the assistant coach specifically teaching us the finer points of the game. We would then be able to watch the games with a far deeper connection to the team and appreciate the game on a new scale.

The audience could ask questions around the plays, structures, though be 'discouraged' from expressing opinions on players form, performance etc.

I would go regularly. Im not sure if its just me though.

It sounds like a great initiative but what if someone from another team goes and takes down notes or records the whole thing? we would be F'ed…..

I attended also. Great evening. Halatau doesn't expect to play this week although named for anyone who is in SuperCoach. I was most impressed with Potter, just a calmness to him. And I think nothing makes Kidwell happier than watching our forwards belt the opposition. If we don't gang tackle G Burgess on Fri night he's gonna be filthy. They're all very articulate in their manner. Clubs in a good place guys.

Well said Tiga4eva! Kidwell and Potter comments spot on. I also agree that the club is in a good spot.

Are they heat lamps on the ground drying it out?

Thanks Ink.

I would say the lights are to help growth in the grass, ANZ is actually pretty sparce and sandy.

The heat lamps help the grass to grow. most big stadiums use them as not much natural light hits the ground surface during winter.
