A star is born...

I tried to tell you the kid is every bit as good as Harry Grant at the same age. He’s a real footy player tackles, runs with precision and power, great speed and his service is sharp.

I hope some of the Liddle loyalists that have been having a crack about my arm chair analysis can see it now. He’s a star this kid unfortunately every one now knows.

I was on board all along mate, see some of my posts where Russell was trying to tell me I was dreaming, and Harry won't be missed and Jake was all hype

Jake Simpkin continuing his rise is a great sign our development is at the right level. Players recruited as juniors a few years ago coming through will give us a good idea of our current systems. What we do now will pay off in a few years. Our key is retaining players when they come good.

Liddle made 57 tackles last week plus a try assist .How come you Symkin lovers didnt bother to mention that .Plus Liddle made half his tackles while we were getting flogged

Because Liddle has played 49 first grade games and Simpkin has played one.

Also the effectiveness of the tackles. I thought Liddle was doing his best every week so far to cover tackles, but he's not an effective tackler. Simpkin has only had one game, so a long long way to go, but his tackles were much more effective and/or he had more support.

I was on board with Simpkin the whole time said in pre season future SOO player and some were like he hasn't played a game yet... Hail Liddle
Agree Russell was number one ticket holder in the Liddle fan club

Stefano and Simpkin were identified by Madge smart recruitment both will be future stars.

Who with?

haha
Simpkin probably Roosters knowing our luck

And yet there were many on here who said he wasn't ready and get his soul crushed if he played nrl so early in his career. He's just a born footballer,

Robbie was ready
if you are old enough you are good enough

Maybe Liddle may get a few bites from some other clubs like dogs or Roosters for this year even

I don’t think we can afford to get rid of Liddle just yet?

Losing liddle would be bad business

You need Atleast 3-4 competent dummy halves in a top 30 squad

Simpkin, Liddle, Mbye and at a pinch Walters

2 are specialists and the other 2 can play when needed

Was gonna say is anyone else worried about him ?

I just hope we don't break the kid. His young and his body is not fully developed yet, and 80 minute NRL in the middle with the likes of Asofa-Solomona and Junior Paulo running at you is about as hard as sport gets for anyone. I would be inclined to limit his minutes and/or give him scheduled weeks off. Particularly given the drop off to Liddle isn't going to be tremendously bad at this point, if at all really. We shouldn't feel the need to play him for 80 every week that's for damn sure. Simpkin is an asset for the future as much as he can help us on the field right now.

Liddle should really be a fixture on the pine much like he was last year when Grant took over, and be starting every three or so games.

I'm honestly not even that concerned if we ran Liddle and Mbye both on the bench. The speed of the game and frequency with which teams are carrying an extra person for no reason makes me inclined to think 3 forwards isn't really needed. Particularly if Twal is the 13 and can go into the prop rotation after Mbye comes on at 13. Then you just need Musgrove and another forward that we can cycle between Mikaele, Garner, Blore, Chee Kam, Amone, Seyfarth depending on the need/suspension/injuries/round etc. Obviously always keep a versatile forward in the 18 jersey.

85 minutes
7 runs 66m
58 tackles 5 missed
Good service from dummy half

Put pressure on Reynolds' field goal which allowed us to get to golden point.

Unfortunately was caught out at marker on the Tom Burgess try, but I'm sure we can all forgive a 19 year old making his first grade debut for being tired in golden point after making 58 tackles.

He wasn't the only one guilty on that Burgess play. Can't recall the forward who came rushing up out of the line and missing however I feel it may have been Ofa.

I've been super excited to see this kid in action ever since he signed with Tigers. A mate from QLD said to me when he signed, look out for this kid he's going to be a star. Star is often a term used very loosely however he more than held his own and show maturity and quality beyond his years.

I got it wrong when I made that post.

Ofa came rushing out.
Tamou had cement feet at marker.
Simpkin was in no man's land.

It was poor from all three of them. I'd say Tamou was most at fault, followed by Ofa. Simpkin looked puzzled as he looked around and both his inside and outside men were not where he thought they would be.

We’ll also have Amone and Blore coming on shortly, so the forwards are looking good.

It’s the backs that need the upgrade, centre’s and wingers.

I understand Naden is coming, so that will help, a good winger would be great, though I watched reserved grade and I thought Fitzgibbon has improved greatly since I last saw him at the trials?

I like Fitz but his glaring weakness is taking bombs under pressure.
