Aaron Woods

I heard this one the other night about one of our favourite players. He's apparently a massive manly fan and they have approached him for when his contract is up (I'm pretty sure its the year after next).

He's apparently jumping at the opportunity as its been his child hood dream to play for the eagles and we have a small chance of holding onto him, I hope this is not true.

Please don't shoot the messenger I was gutted when I heard this and I hope it's all crap.
My source so I don't get bombarded is a family friend I've grown up with, he's known Aaron for quite some time.

I would suspect ALL Clubs will be after Aaron as he gets closer to being a free-agent.

I have also heard this rumour, and unless the Club puts up big dollars next round of talks, I wont be surprised to see him leave!

Heard it from who?

Sounds like BS to me.

He's said numerous times how much he loves the club, and that he's a local junior and wants to stay. He may have been a fan of Manly in the 90s seeing they were a top team and Balmain wasn't (i'm sure many of us have our second favourite teams), but not many, if any, local boys would choose those scum over us.

He loves the club and got a taste of SOO football

If he had missed SOO selection it would of been an issue , but as someone else said he loves the club and I can't see him leaving

I really would like to see Aaron work on his speed in 2014

Manly won't throw big money at Aaron, they will be throwing it at their halves to keep them.

I'm confident he will stay.

Some clubs find it easier to manage the salary cap than others. Roosters, dogs, broncos manly and storm (in past years) are masters.

The bolded part above makes one think it’s probably BS at this stage, Aaron is under contract till 2014, which means another club cannot approach him before Nov 1 unless his current club allows him to negotiate, we all know clubs will make it known if they are after a particular player, and a club will let it be known to his manager that they are interested, however any rumour claiming they have already approached a player under contract suggests at this stage it is just that, rumour.

Manly are the team I hate most, however I have to give them credit as they always make astute purchases in areas they need.

They have lost Kite this year, King must be close to retirement and other key forwards such as Watmough & Stewart are getting old.

Makes perfect sense to throw big money at one of the best young forwards on the market. Their halves won't be as effective with a poor pack.

Read the last paragraph. I'm not elaborating more then what I've said in terms of source. Believe the rumour or not thats up to you. I just thought I'd pass on what I heard.

Exactly right it is is a rumour but you can't say clubs don't approach players before they are allowed to.

NRL players are taking peptides but theyre not allowed!!

I hope all this is crap aswell I don't want him going anywhere but Aaron told my source himself so take with a grain of salt or more thats up to you. I am a fan like you guy aswell and don't want him gone.

They aparently approached him and he loved the idea… nothing has been done formally yet but he did like what he heard... again hope its all BS or we are his first option.

Alot can happen in 12 months

Manly have one of the best junior prop prospects in their system right now.

Woods would seem like an expense they do not need to burden themselves with

Manly don't have the cap space to throw big money at anyone,we however will next year.

Totally agree with you Dr Ice.
I have a best mate and a close cousin who were gutted last week..
1\. because they lost to the roosters but
2\. they felt that was there last chance in a long time before they are going to have to enter through a rebuilding phase, they've been up there for so long but they both knew all their key players are starting to push 30 and the wrong side of 30.

It makes perfect sense to me aswell.

Yeah okay but you're asking us to make a judgement based on third-hand information. You can't just throw something like this out there and then step back and not expect further comments.

FTR I think you're being sincere - I don't make the same comment on this family friend. Personally I'd be pretty shirty if my "friends" were that trustworthy that they told every man and his dog… Either that or it sounds more like the women's mags "insiders" and just as reliable...

We'll see what happens though huh?

They're already under pressure to retain Foran and Cherry-Evans and the Stewart brothers. There was a recent article stating they are already facing the prospect of losing one of them due to the salary cap and it's likely to be Glenn. Can't see them losing Glenn and then paying for Woods.

Woods does need to be our no. 1 priority to resign. Hopefully in the offseason so teams don't come poaching next year and bumping up his price.

All I've ever heard Aaron say is how proud he is to be playing for the team he supported growing up. Never heard about his like for Manly, so either he kept it well hidden or its not true.

Or maybe Woods likes Manly beach and would like to move there? haha

I can't see WT low balling him, I reckon the club would have him as pegged as our forward foundation stone, and be prepared to offer him commensurate pay.
