Interesting Tim Mannahs love for Cayless and Douiehi saying Hastings is "filling in at 6".

TBH though Tim Mannah is a dribbler. Not sure how he gets a gig as an expert on Fox. Pretty good player but his "insights" are borderline hopeless. Fits the narrative I guess alongside twits like Bwaiff.

Cayless was always a respected player can imagine Tim looked up to him growing up

Yes I can understand that. Plus they played together for a long time. So it'd be safe to say his opinion of Cayless would be greatly slanted. Hoping Cayless is a great acquisition for us but getting character references from his good mate doesn't count for much IMO.

If they win hd won't be filling in anywhere

Exactly & I actually believe Douiehi is a better centre than a number 6. We can use his height out wide to catch cross field bombs & kicks. I recall a game he played against Manly last year where he was awesome & probably had his best game for the year he was playing left centre. I also believe Brooks is a running number 6 with Hastings as our organiser that will take the pressure off him & if Madge uses him as a running number 6 then he will have his best year ever.

Wishful thinking, but as long as Hastings is competitive and dogged in his pushing the boys around the park, then I’d suppose it’s quite possible he’s no fill in

Reynolds did the exact same thing when he was here. It’s great to have that competitiveness, but it gets thrown around like it’s the be all, end all. He needs to step up to a level he’s been away from for 4 years.

Hastings has more strings to his bow than JR ever had.

Think he's respected across the game. I certainly respect him from what I remember.

I saw his bro play at high school at parra Marist both of them can play.

But know what you mean it's still a safe offsider for madge and its a wait and see.

But think can say now it's an improvement on last year.

Maybe but he was never a skillful player. I'm 100% confident Hastings will be a much better player for us than Reynolds was.

So did Dean Young and Jamie Buhrer, both glorified reserve-graders. Not sure what your point is.

I would say it's be interesting to see how many games Young would've played if his old man wasn't a Dragons legend and former highly-rated Origin player. Rails run IMO. Buhrer was a professional interchange player from memory.
Plenty of players have decent-length careers who people don't rate as good players, Tim Moltzen and Nofo case in point.
Don't rate Young or Buhrer at all.

You're 100% right. I was at a Christmas party, late in 2010. Was speaking to a Dragons fan who has a lot of NRL connections. He told me that day that Dean Young would be Origin Hooker in 2011.
I laughed and told him how left field the suggestion was and that Farah was twice the player. He shrugged his shoulders and told me in December, it had already been decided. Young was given a rails run by Daddy.

More of a political thing to say, he's not gonna come out and say the 6 is mine.

Last year proved Brooks and Doueihi didn't work. One has to go. Fate has it Brooks and Hastings have the first crack so I think a lot depends how they go the first few rounds.

Interesting Tim Mannahs love for Cayless and Douiehi saying Hastings is "filling in at 6".

Of course he's filling in.... Doueihi would've been starting 6 if he wasn't injured. Hastings would be battling for the 7 jersey or a bench spot

Who knows mate, he didnt exactly ace 6 last year. He did some great things but defensively couldn't do it and lost some really winnable games, Warriors comes to mind.

Was easily our best attacking weapon while he was at 6 though. One thing is clear - he has to be touching the ball as much as possible

Hastings has openly said Doueihi was first choice for 6 also, that's where he was going to play.

More of a political thing to say, he's not gonna come out and say the 6 is mine.

Last year proved Brooks and Doueihi didn't work. One has to go. Fate has it Brooks and Hastings have the first crack so I think a lot depends how they go the first few rounds.

Somehow I doubt we'll be flying in the top 8 by the time Doueihi is back. Someone will make way for him in the halves at some point this season, he's the most natural 6 we've got and is a massive talent who's still only 22
