Adam Doueihi #227

Wests Tigers star Adam Doueihi will go under the knife next week to repair multiple facial fractures, as Brisbane’s Brendan Piakura edges closer to a return from an extended concussion layoff.

Doueihi was rushed to hospital mid-game after his head collided with the knee of Cowboys forward Jason Taumalolo while he was attempting to make a tackle on Sunday.

Scans have confirmed the in-form playmaker has suffered two fractures to his eye socket and will require surgery, prematurely ending his season.

Doueihi’s surgery is scheduled for next week with specialists forced to wait for swelling to subside before operating on the nasty injury.

It comes as rookie half Latu Fainu also failed to finish Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys after he sustained a category two head knock.

Fainu is expected to be available to take on ladder-leaders Canberra on Saturday at GIO Stadium, where he is expected to partner Jarome Luai in the halves in place of Doueihi.

It’s understood boom rookie Heamasi Makasini is rated as an “outside chance” to make his highly anticipated NRL debut this weekend. It’s expected Makasini will be named in Benji Marshall’s extended squad on Tuesday with his selection likely to depend on the fitness of centre Starford To’a.

To’a missed Round 25 with a shoulder issue and is no certainty to take the field against the Raiders.

Coaching staff had earmarked Makasini, who impressed in NSW Cup on the weekend, for a debut in the final rounds of the regular season if the Tigers’ fell out of the finals race, which is now a given after Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys.
sucks to hear that 🙁 Wish him all the best. I hope he gets through it

Sad to see, but why on earth wasn't Adam tackling with his right shoulder, as putting one's head in front of anyone's knees, let alone someone with Taumalolo's huge size, is just asking for trouble.
It was really poor technique. But you see it all the time in the NRL. Players favour a shoulder and they get their head in the wrong spot all the time. Unfortunately for Adam on this occasion it resulted in a terrible injury. I can’t believe they don’t drill the basics into them when coming through the grades. Pass both ways. Tackle both shoulders. Step off both feet etc.

Timing is everything in this game. What happens if this injury happens three weeks ago when he was unsigned? It’s why I can never understand why players are willing to spend months making decisions on their next contract when it can all be over in one tackle and you suddenly have no value to anyone.

Yeah not liking the sound of multiple facial fractures. Hope he doesn’t have the same issues Lawrence had, otherwise his career may be over 😞 Have to feel for him after all he’s been through. His form has been great lately, just hoping he would stay injury free.

Well eye socket fractures is a damn sight better than fractured skull which someone mentioned earlier.
I seem to remember Tedesco having the same injury when a Gold Coast prop( whose name escapes me) caught him illegally imo, at LO. No action taken.
For someone who’s had 2 knee reconstructions, this should be a walk in the park, if you’ll pardon the pun. And much easier to ease back into training once the surgery and rehab done.
See you next season AD.

Did Teddy wear a silence of the Lamb's mask or something like that ?

That’s the bastard, I was at LO that day, right in line with it. They put in a long kick and Teddy brought it back and as he was about to hit the ground James came in over the top, with clenched fist aimed right at his head. Didn’t miss him.
I was angry then, and still angry now. Not sure why other than the Tigers were stitched up yet again.

Whilst I am no physician, it seems that Adams physical injury should heal well before preseason next year. My one big concern is that if he is seen by the club as a lock utility then he needs to have confidence in his right shoulder defence. He clearly favoured that when trying to tackle a 115kg monster in Jason T. Wish him all the very, very best in his recovery. The bloke has repeatedly supported the club since he has been with us and deserves a change in luck.

X rays indicate 2 fractures to his eye socket. As fractures go this is not a bad outcome & one would expect him to be OK for 2026.
Been critical of Adam Doueihi in the past but the poor bugger just cannot take a trick.

Poor guy was just hitting his best form and I believe it has taken him some time after his injuries to gain full confidence and then this happens to him.

Hope your expectations of him being OK for 2026 prove to be correct and that this latest set back has not destroyed his confidence and desire to continue with his NRL career.

Good luck with your recovery and hope to see you back on the paddock sometime soon.
