I don't see him as a 6.
I think he is an out an out first receiver. Whether he does that with 13 or 7 on his back I don't particularly care, though i'd assume he sees himself as a 7.
Fair call.
I reckon he sees himself as a half, and probably says I don’t care I can play both, probably says the same about 13.
He played 5/8 coming through and was to be JL’s 5/8, but injuries, Garfield Gal, and JL going back to 5/8 means he has to play 7, but he he is a 5/8 learning to play 7. And the only reason Benji is saying all the propaganda stuff about “he’s our long term 7” is bcoz he doesn’t wanna say JL hasn’t really cut it at 7, so we’re now trying to manufacture one again.
Personally I think JL should stay the 7. I don’t think we gave him long enough in a stable environment with a pack that can dominate. He can do it but he needs confidence in those around him, especially his 5/8, or he thinks he has to play that role too, but that is another topic.
Latu is not a 7 yet, I reckon he can be, at the moment he is playing well at 7, and like JL, given a stable consistent environment with a pack that doesn’t get pushed backwards, he will only get better at it. He’ll make a better 7 than Garfield long term, but I still reckon he’s got 6 written all over him. A few more showers to wash it off and reveal a 7.

Yeah, I know he played 6 in lower grades and he certainly is still learning the role of a 7. But it's funny how we all see things differently.
In my opinion ball playing effectively at first receiver requires subtitles that I don't see in any of our halves other than Fainu. His vision, line engagement, hip positioning, short pass selection is well ahead of our other options.
He still needs to find a voice and give direction and prove he has a kicking game (or at the very least we devise a game plan to overcome his potential lack of a long kick).
I think Luai is more advanced in all these other skills so I see the argument for him at 7 but I don't see the necessary ball playing in his game to create for his outside and I don't think it is something that is learnt late in a career.

Tend to agree with you especially this bit “in any of our halves” that’s bcoz all of our halves are 5/8’s to start with. But yeah I agree he’s our best option, long term, and I am more than happy to give him leeway to learn and get better at being a 7. I think all our halves could do with a kicking coach, that massive kick after we held them in their 30 was momentum changing.

I've was made aware of Latu when he was 15. From what I know he has always played 6
Ok, thanks. As others have mentioned I think he has the skills to turn into a 7, especially playing beside such a strong 6. His kicks on the weekend were not too bad (get him and Luai a kicking coach) and he has great deception in his short passing game and physicality on both sides of the ball.

His ability to play tight and straight deep into the line is massive for our attack. He brings the best out in Luai whenever he is on the field. His talk and energy look decent for a youngster, so thats a big plus. Also his kicking game is better than first thought, so there's a lot to work with. I love him. Think he is a fantastic talent. His will to win combined with pure natural talent will be a game changer for us. We have to bring him along right and be patient
