The Doueihi deal is skewed by the ridiculous contract that Souths gave him. If he weren't already getting $600K for 2021 under that deal I don't imagine many would be saying that we should be paying $600K for him for 2021, or that he would have any right to demand that sort of salary. Those being critical of the club not just leaping in and taking on that salary should consider what kind of salary they thought he was on or would have justified before that $600K figure came out. I seriously doubt anyone would have thought he was contracted for anything more than $400K at the absolute most.

Depends on the timing of the deal ...if it was just post GI's retirement and not having a viable option for the future it could make sense

They have LM now .....paying 600 k for a now benchie is ridiculous

Thats what I would bet. Souths cap is overspent and they need to offload someone at least.

Oh but they say they're cap compliant? Yes about a week before they signed Latrell they said they weren't interested.

I get that impression too, other clubs must sense Souths' unease so close to the season. They've done nothing but consistently lie about their position - I'm pleased that we're holding our cards & callin their bluff. They couldn't get Arrow over the line and with Leinani Latu gone they're no hope - their forwards are 1 injury away from becoming a bottom 8 pack. Sign up BJ & let Souths meet us at the table if they want to do a deal.

An issue not been spoken of much is Reynolds's situation & how it figures in with our planning. The 9's is on the 14th & we pick our team a week out - We'll get a verdict on whether JR is stood down or not next week hopefully. We would be granted salary cap dispensation automatically by virtue of that decision to stand him down or not. That could change the game for us w'ell see.
