Our current fullback is much better winger and fullback than Johnson. What a terrible waste of West Tigers of CAP money and Cap space. WEsts tigers have a huge bag of CAP money available and If Wests Tigers sign either or both Johnson and Gagai they will again be certainly seen as the fools' of NRL.

He’s a good winger better than what tigers have.

Disagree. I'd take nofa and thommo over Johnston no contest

Agree 100% especially at the $$$ that have been touted. The value proposition is not good.

Rabbits roosters have got their recruitment / retention largely down pat.

If they are letting go AJ and Gagai it for a reason.

If we sign this nuffy before Xmas I'll be Quoting that Kevin Bloody Wilson song

Alex Johnstone, please don’t come here. If it’s all we get for Christmas we’d still rather not

The Roosters yes.

The Rabbits signed 2 injury prone 30 year olds to $1M multiple year deals and are just lucky the NRL allowed them to weasel out of them. They also have Gagai on reportedly $750K which is way overs.

I don’t think Johnston is required especially if we are in the hunt for JAC.

Spot on, the NRL got souths out of deep poo, no surprise there though, after the reference anything is possible from this inept organisation

AJ would be the most terrible signing we could make given our precarious position in the pecking order of NRL clubs... we’d officially become the welcome doormat for LM to? absolute stupidity and I feel that Madge would nip this in the bud were he doing media.

He would not , even with the Fox’s inclusion, catapult us into top 8 contention nor would it make sense given we need a top flight fullback, and a pretty decent centre/ five-eighth . That’s like signing Moses Mbye to come and play fullback when you’ve already got Tedesco. Thompson does a lot more right in the number 1 and I’d love to see us for 2021 going after a Xerri, young centre from warriors or some of the young Brisbane utilities (Staggs, Shibusaki). Forget all about Alex Johnstone PLEASE!

To each their own view, for me I'd welcome Johnston as he is a good fullback, certainly not a star, but better than Thompson and it would allow Thompson to go back to wing. Also leave sufficient funds to get JAC should he be allowed here in 2020.

Probably no need to panic about it right now - Johnston may indeed be free to leave Souths, but do we really want him? The club hasn't said anything and I know we'd be taking JAC before AJ...Just think about it and employ some logic...

I agree with the sentiment that we should not sign him and that allows south's to sign Mitchell. Let south's sign Mitchell and then we can talk with whom ever may be flagged for ejection from south's. But if it is Johnston I don't mind. Probably the only one I'd entertain being at WT.

That’s the thing though..... the standard shouldn’t be Corey Thompson

Maybe, but it's Thompson we currently have now. And I'd rate him better than Mbye there.

It was said somewhere at every opportunity we should seek to try to make each position just a little bit stronger than the previous occupant. Does Johnston do than over Thompson? Yes, but also dependent on availability, price and other competing players vying for WT signature. (Yes I know that last but seems a bit threadbare at present but it has,to improve surely)

Edit - I would not be surprised if Abbey gets the gig if he can prove fitness. That Would render Johnston not required.

I said quite some time back, if Abbey can get fit, he will do a great job at fullback for us, allowing good money for the Foxx, a good centre and backrower

Why is everyone jumping up and down about getting a Fullback?
I rate Alex Johnson, but when I look at him I see a player very similar to Mbye. Clearly better then Mbye, would happily swap Mbye for Johnson but someone who:
can run through lines and score tries.
Can pass.
Can't stop people in defense.
Hasn't been a dedicated Nr1.
Could be part of a good team but not a top 5 player.

You then look at Dane Gagai.
Origin player.
Try Machine.
Has come from numerous good clubs.

Could pass on a lot of skills to our next generation and be the kind of player others want to play with. I see the same in JAC.
It makes me wonder why Johnson. Look I rate Johnson, he just seems so much more of the same in our backline. Sure an upgrade on Thompson, but not an upgrade that if we are looking to the finals in 2021 that we would go "glad we have Johnson in our team". Instead if we move Gagai in, he would be the kind of player that could help with a finals run.

lets go top shelf where we can over more average, even if it is above average.

Gagai plays 3 decent games a year and they are not for his club a big pass from me

I would be ok with aj but not gagai

Johnson def my preference over Gagai. Last year his season was up and diwn with injury and Wayne but in 2018 he had a brilliant season where he was first choice fullback. Look at his 2018 form and numbers he was top class when dedicated at fullback
