“Alex is establishing himself as one of the leading outside backs in the competition and one of his greatest attributes is his willingness to learn,” Coach Maguire said.
That was 2 years ago when Madge signed the Rabbitohs junior for another 3 years.
Ok, I understand how important it is to have coachable, keen players. I just have one reservation. I think a prolific try scorer should be scoring more then 4 tries in a season.

Yeah certainly didn't cross the stripe as much in the last two seasons, his knee injury last year wouldn't have helped. The year prior though (2017,) he scored 22 tries, half on the wing and half at fullback. Granted overall he has scored many more tries on the wing than fullback, he can still find the line.

I'm OK if the club takes him on, I certainly don't think they should be offering fullback money though. Ideally he'd play on the wing, which would create a bit more depth for wing positions, especially since we are short on centres with Momo being the only one I would lock down for a centre position. I would like an established fullback but Thompson can play there until one makes themselves available or we pick one up. I still maintain that as much as I like Corey's ticker and the effort he puts in, a sign of progress for this club should see him lining up in Canterbury Cup by the time his contract is up.

Simply put, with our remaining money, if we had the choice of spending it on a top line fullback, or nabbing a decent winger, centre and hooker, I know where I'd be spending the money.

Does anyone really think the aim would be to help Souths get LM? If we don’t take him, someone else will. Regardless, he won’t be at Souths if LM signs. Cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Exactly!

How do you know Mitchell has turned down the Tigers offer.

I would only assume because if he was coming he would of been training today like the rest of the players and stopping this media circus

He may not be in a position to accept the offer?

Whilst it doesn't seem that Mitchell is coming to WT, the scenario that he is wanting to cannot be ruled out. As you are aware, even if he sorted out a WT deal through this Rose guy, his former manager would take legal action for the fees as he had already negotiated a contract with them and would almost certainly get awarded most of those monies and likely court costs as well.

Thus, Latrell would not sign with our club until he had finalised their separation agreement. Nothing is over the line yet, just plenty of speculation and I don't think many are taking this into consideration nearly as much as they should.

Understand that's typical Coach/Ceo spiel talking up a new signing....they all do it and predictably sound the boring same imo

Agree. There appears to be a lot of moving parts connected to LM, which is why clubs are unwilling to leave an offer on the table for an unknown period.
Also, I may be jumping at shadows here but... In his public appearances lately, Braith Anasta appears to be making a play for getting LM on his book. I realise he would be crazy not to be selling all the time, but his platitudes and pleading tone made me curious? Has Rose given up? Has LM thrown the toys out the cot? What is going on?

The whole saga has been nothing if not unusual.

Long time lurker first time poster. Love the faithfull flying the flag But i Was down at concord the other day sorting out my 2nd year of family membership after marrying into a tigers family and it was like walking into brookvale oval/manly leagues circa 1994, where do the players actually get taken go to sign on the dotted line? If we are bringing future starters here I am embarrassed. Had a look through where some of the west harbour boys were hitting the gym(?) and thougt the fitness first at N strathfield was the better option. I know the COE is coming but go look at concord, then liechart and then campbellown and get angry at the fact shiny vynil stickers keep getting put over the same block walls by the same contractors year after year saying this year will be different cause we have player x. AJ is a quality player that was effectively an understudy to GI and we need a specailist fullback not someone that needs game time in the position before moving on (LM).

ALSO the PNG Kumals have the same national colours so hope to see some more PNG jerseys through the west!

Hey Chad

Good to see your first post.

Actually the West Harbour gym is in the eastern stand and is pretty good for a small rugby club. The NSW Warratah's used the gym last year and said it was better than what they have.

Honestly if we are going to help souths make room to sign Mitchell, get Adam Doueihi, not only was he one of ours but he is actually on the rise.
Alex Johnston, injuries aside, whilst only a young man reached his peak several years ago, has too many gaps in his game for the price tag (hence the bunnies getting rid of him) and as a good mate of mine and Rabbitohs tragic explains, he (AJ) can complete but not produce, think Jennings.

People have been making the Jennings comparison. I really dont see it myself. Johnston can and will bust the line and go the length of the field. He can be a weapon not just a player making up the numbers.

Answer me this.

How much better is Johnston than Thompson at fullback.

Now compare that to Jennings vs our other wingers.

Jennings does not improve our team, Johnston does!

Like comparing a Lada to a Datsun.

My Datsun goes just fine thx

I would rather lm come to us but he has to want to. If he only comes because he got nowhere else that might affect his motivation.
Just need to do what is best for us.

I hear the new poster Chad_powers.
Time we get our facilities right. If they look bad, people won't want to sign with us and appearances matter. We have been talking about the COE for too many seasons now. Just build it!

So what's the go here...2 sleeps to the jolly fat fella ..all gone quiet on the Johnstone front..

If we sign this nuffy before Xmas I'll be Quoting that Kevin Bloody Wilson song

I think that Wests tigers would also be looking like mugs.

AJ would be the most terrible signing we could make given our precarious position in the pecking order of NRL clubs... we’d officially become the welcome doormat for LM to? absolute stupidity and I feel that Madge would nip this in the bud were he doing media.

He would not , even with the Fox’s inclusion, catapult us into top 8 contention nor would it make sense given we need a top flight fullback, and a pretty decent centre/ five-eighth . That’s like signing Moses Mbye to come and play fullback when you’ve already got Tedesco. Thompson does a lot more right in the number 1 and I’d love to see us for 2021 going after a Xerri, young centre from warriors or some of the young Brisbane utilities (Staggs, Shibusaki). Forget all about Alex Johnstone PLEASE!

You don’t think that Johnston is a full back but think that Thompson is , and yet the club coach is desperate to sign one . Thompson gives 100% every game but he is not a quality fullback and will never be

Latrell is a fullback, Abbey’s a fullback and Mbye loves it there contrary to popular belief last year. Madge isn’t as desperate as you think!

Mbye may love it there but I don't want him near it.
There are two things I hated about the Mbye signing.
1. he was not working out for the Bulldogs, he and Reynolds as a halves pair killed the team. It was worse there then with us having Moses and Brooks. Mbye came into a well working team and tanked.
2. We signed him for 750K! He is worth 250K max. We now will have to punt him this year or next and I hope he has another "breakout" year as his contract finishes or we will be left with a bitter player. I have zero doubt we will sell him and making him captain just makes this whole process silly.

Mbye should be kept in the Centers or if he has to go to the spine, he goes in NR9.
Every team in the NRL is driven by their Fullback, Mbye has Zero flair there. As far as defense he can be at the right place at the right time I will give him that. But Mbye stopping the try is a rarity.
