I agree it's not his biggest issue although it's still up there. In 2025, he gave away two less penaties in while playing two less games, was placed on report 4 times vs 3 times and his error went from 4 to 10. although I'll grant you that he played more minutes. Still it's like saying instead of coming last, he came second last which is not something you really want to use as an argument. I could also go into how just about every other one of his stats got worse but they're readily available and I don't think we disagree there. It was also his 6th season and the fact that he's "improving" now just as he's about to turn 27 says it all about his ability.Mate, I think you need to revisit my post.
I’ve been on record saying I think it’s best if we can push Seyfarth back to Cup. I’m not defending his football ability in attack and defence I’m just pointing out that discipline is not his biggest issue and the last 2 years are proof that that part of his game is improving. There is no way to argue against that when the time between penalties increased by 50% and the number of sin bins halved.
Yes I want to bring up Terrell May. This guy was absolutely outstanding throughout the year. Churned up ridiculous metreage and made an insane amount of tackles at a very high completion rate. However, multiple times he cost us repeat sets through penalties and ruck infringements and these ultimately lead to tries. Every single player in the game has multiple weaknesses and this is certainly one of Terrells. I don't see how this is so controversial. Sure fatigue plays a role but this guy has run a marathon so likely has much better endurance or mental resilience than many other players so I guess what I'm saying is fatigue causing penalties/ruck infringements is also dependent on a players physical and mental characteristics (eg someone who is less fit (Seyfarth?) gets fatigued earlier therefore lazy arm).
Seyfarth's stats were not that good this year I agree. He spent a lot of the year being quite ineffective. I thought in 2024 he had a good year (this may also be in part to the rest of the team sucking) and was hoping he could continue his improvement like he had done almost every year except that didn't happen and he regressed (but improved discipline).
Now onto the Warriors game. Yeah CNK fell into him with 10 minutes to go. That's a whole 12.5% of match time. Teams have scored 3-4 tries in a 10-minute period before. I don't know if you watched it but those last 10 minutes were some of the worst 10 minutes of attacking football I've seen. It's like they all lost their heads. No structure or anything just doing whatever they felt like. How about the Leka Halasima try 2 minutes before that. We were ahead 24-18 could you not argue the multiple defensive lapses cost us the win as well because before that we were winning? The argument that one single moment defines a whole 80 minute game is just ludicrous especially that far away from the end of the game. You could apply the same thing to Alex Twal who is in la-la land with 40 seconds to go, we have a quick play the ball on the 4th, 40m out from a half break and nobody is there at hooker.
I'm not defending mediocrity. I am simply trying to correct clear misinformation. His discipline is nowhere near as bad as everyone claims over the last year. I also don't want him in the 17 for anything other than injury depth unless he starts playing really good footy.
Yeah he is a great clubman except watching the whole video I only saw him "involved" in 12 tries which includes just doing a random pass somewhere. He did score a couple good tries due to his capacity to always compete but honestly wasn't much else there of note other than maybe 2-4 crucial passes or linebreaks over a whole year. You can see just how much more dangerous Samuela was on the other side. Another thing I noticed was how involved To'a was at the start of the season before he got injured. Lots of very good tries and assists by him. Bula was also another frequent factor in our tries as well.
No one ever said a player can't have weaknesses. It's a matter of the positives outweighing the negative which is absolutely the case with May and certainly not for Seyfarth. One of May's negatives is he plays too many minutes on a week to week basis which I think likely leads to poorer discipline, particularly as the game progresses. And running a marathon is not remotely like having to tackle and be tackled for 70 minutes. It's no accident that you'll find a lot of high-minute, high output props like Haas, Carrigan (played prop and lock) and Fotuaika featured prominently in ruck infringment and set restart lists. FWIW I'm trying to track May's specific ruck infringments and penalties across each game as I'd be interested to see when they occured and how much fatigue may be affecting his discpline.
We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one regarding the Warriors game. Seyfarth was the one who gave them the lead with 8 minutes remaining! You can try hypotheticals and blame Twal and everyone else but the one objective reality is that Seyfarth gave a away a dumb soft penalty (I agree it was milked by CNK but still a penalty) that put the Warriors up two which was the difference in the end. You can talk about how we played after or what we should have done but there's no changing the fact that his discipline was the literal difference in the end.
Fair enough regarding him not being in the 17. He is depth coverage at best and I'm being pretty generous there
