Allstars game

Blair was great out their tonight, makes the hard yards and makes the hard tackles. He will be great for us. Benji went through the motions and as the weeks roll on towards September he will get better every week

Have you ever seen the winger from the losing side win man of the match???

Once KS Anyone who was a copy of "A League of their Own" may remember the story

Wilfred Williams in about 1985 did Saints v Roosters in what was described as the worst game ever and to top it off he got dropped to reserve grade the following week

His response according to the story to finding out he had won MOTM was "Who me"

Blair was very good, Benji had a far better second half as he does and threw a lovely ball to Vatuvai.

The roll on is good but I agree it can get confusing if the broadcaster cant keep up. reckon Gibbsy will hate that rule or what? Also thought Fafita had some aggro strong runs near the back half.

It was interesting to hear how much crap Benji puts on Bennett and vice versa.

And Benny saying Benji's the only person, and will be the only person to ever get him to dress up in drag. funny stuff.

otherwise good game, i enjoyed it.

Yeah I like the roll on but it did get confusing. Refs need to call it out more so the broadcaster picks it up.

Gus made a good point that they are more likley to call the penalty in this situation especially closer to the line as it takes out the easy option of the 2 points.

Might be a bit differnt in a live game with Sports Ears in so you can hear the refs call of penalty, but thye need a way for it to be made clear on the telly.

Some unsorted thoughts

Happy to get through this with no injuries

Greg Bird is a senseless grub - Interesting that the camera found him when the pre game speaker was talking about domestic violence. I bet Bob Lui was happy not to be in the side

I like the concept, young indigenous people benefit in terms of developing hope and self respect

The powerplay is a misplaced piece of enthusiasm. The time to reduce teams to 11 players is at full time in the event of a draw

Benji was as involved as he needed to be, magical pass for the last try

The broadcaster couldnt keep up with the tackle count so the tackle counter was off the screen….very frustrating watching a team attacking in the 20 without knowing what tackle it was.
Dont forget unlimited interchange and a 20 man squad helped the pace of the game go right thu to the 80th minute.
Blairs soccer stop on the bad pass....unconventional yet super talented.
I can see Lawrence looking even better following him around

Dont you count the tackles? i know i do ,thats not hard its come natural.
Your going bad when you need Rabs abd co to let you know whats happening.

At the game the refs were mic'd letting us know what Rge penalty was for and what tackle.
On a side note there was heaps of tigers jerseys in the crowd good to see.

When they restart the tackle count without a whistle or anything it did get a little confusing. Especially when the penalties weren't that obvious.

My thoughts.

The 2nd half was much better than the 1st half. Pretty good game though for the first one of the year.
Very glad that Benji and Blair didn't get injured.
Blair had a pretty good game, Benji was quiet in the first half, but got more involved in the 2nd.
Very good goal kicking from Benji, hope he can keep that up for the rest of the year.
Hargreaves is a thug.
The Power Play thing was just stupid.
Really liked the rolling penalty, although it did get a bit confusing, not only keeping track of the tackles, but wondering what the penalty was for.

Blair is an interesting athlete… He is always on his toes, balanced and very strong.

I'm really looking forward to seeing him from Round 1!!!

Blair was my highlight last night .He is fit and willing which will help make the younger forwards very hungry to learn off him .
Ican feel a top year coming for Wests.

On the rolling penalty, how would that be implemented into regular NRL games?

I know it's common knowledge, but the rolling penalty was only accomadated by the unlimited interchange. Although an increase in available interchanges throughout a match may help, I feel that the quality of the game will be reduced as a result of player fatigue and no amount of interchanges will negate this. We saw this last night with a fairly large score as the final result.

I also think that it will be a backwards step in terms of the standards of referees as they will no longer be giving an explanation as to why the penalty (or penalties) around the ruck were given throughout the match. Could you imagine the Farah inquiring as to why, throughout one passage of play, 3 or 4 penalties were given and the referee not knowing how to answer because he doesn't know. Farah wouldn't even be able to go back to the team and tell them what area od thier ruck they need to clean up. Referees just wouldn't be held accountable for thier decisions around the ruck.

I'm sure with some tweaks to the way the rolling penalty works we could see it brought in at some stage, but for me the major issues with it are the quality of games due to player fatigue and the standards of the referees. I think these need to be dealt with before we see this change to the game.

Didnt think Fifita was "out of his class",but unlike most wasnt 100% fit & used only in short bursts.
One thing he did do & that was run straight rather than sideways,so he's learnt something at the Sharks already!

I really enjoyed the game last night. Enjoyed the biffo - so glad WearyHairygraves (or whatever his name is) doesn't play for us…..penalty central.

The game didn't really suit him defensively due to the speed and he wasn't able to use his wrestling skills or maybe he chose to shelve them as it wasn't a NRL game and a charity game

I agree. He ran hard and straight…something he hardly ever did when with us. If he has changed his game yet maintaned his ball skills then he should go well.

And it makes you wonder why he rarely did it at The Tigers
