It is good that players feel comfortable in speaking with Maguire. This seems to be at odds with how some like to portray him in the media.

I get the impression that the club has organised the roles in the recruitment and retention process so that Madge plays the sympathetic, almost father-figure type role, while Hartigan is the hard man making the tough decision.

For example, Benji approaches Madge and says that he has heard that he won't be offered a new deal. This is news to Madge. He tells Benji to give him 24 hours and he will see what he can do. He comes back to Benji full of sympathy. "I'm sorry Benji, but the decision has been made.....".

McIntyre phones Madge and says that he still hasn't received a formal offer from the club and that the Titans have tabled an offer, which he has accepted. Madge expresses surprise and regret that he is going. He tells Macca that he wanted to keep him. Obviously the football department has stuffed up.....

This way, Madge stays on good terms with the playing group while Hartigan plays the role of the man making the unpopular decisions.

Its called following the chain of command .....you jump that chain and you risk alienating an immediate superior (Madge ) ..not a smart move for a fringe player

I guess that the club has addressed how Cleary left and have put systems in place to curb this issue.

Or Hartigan is making the decisions , goes to Madge , Madge says do what you think is right . Decisions gets made , player spits his chips , rings Madge , Madge has plausible deniability. I’m sure if Madge is adamant about a player , that player isn’t going anywhere.

Even if we get Joe I still think we should play hardball with JA and Manly

Like Joe will be here regardless of what we do with JA so still make manly offer something really meaningful or if they don't just stick JA with the CC squad and use him when needed

Make the germ waste a whole season unless we get something or we can comfortably fill our squad and use all our cap money on players that Madge really wants

Agree, but we have only 1 spot left if Joe O comes on, and if young Sironen comes over then we have none (though he is the obvious swap)?
What if Daine L gets a release?

Worse case Manly get cold feet and we are stuck with him.

All players will need to lift next season to keep a contract here, which is a great outcome for us.

If Sironen comes in , it’s still 29 because it’s a direct swap.

Hartigan is head of the football department, he has said that Madge certainly gets involved but doesn’t make final decision.

I think this is good as it gives us a continued direction even if the coach decides to jump on another bus.

Aloiai either sees out the contract or Manly comes to the party. It’s that simple. Plenty of players are being forced to remain after signing elsewhere and it should be no different here. As far as I can tell he hasn’t even tried the “ compassionate “ excuse.

That's a dangerous game to play and people can smell that kind of rat easily.

That might also be perceived to be like working in a middle-management position where the boss made all decisions. Everyone would know that person wasn't the decision maker. They would only go to the decision maker for when they wanted an answer - I can't see a head coach being like that.

I think it's important that the senior coach has complete buy-in as to which players are coming in. Otherwise if they don't have that buy-in it's harder for them to believe in that player when they are coaching them.

"It's the same with Madge (Michael Maguire, Tigers head coach) I think it is important that your coach has a say, it's not necessarily the final say, but they need to be across what direction we are going with when it comes to recruitment.

If Manly want Aloiai that badly the Tigers should offer Rusty or The Grub for next year. Use it as leverage to clean out our roster.

The last thing we need is a sulker like Jake T. Just because Luke Brooks doesn't cry after every loss doesnt mean he doesnt care about our club.

Yes it's a hard one in that regard but if Laurie comes than release him

He will go but if Manly than play hard ball JA will have to play his stupid game with them and we just wait for Laurie

This forum is getting full with journos or people trying to discredit the club and all within. Some of the conspiracy theories about how the club has been set up for Madge to be the good guy and some other bloke is a bad guy etc etc.

Really?

If Josh had a single ounce of brains or professionalism in him, he would come out, PERSONALLY, and make a statement that says,

"Im sorry this has played out publicly. Im committed to the tigers for 2021 and my career after that is still being nogotiated. It wont change my resolve to be the best player i can be and continue to improve. As like all people, I'd like to keep any future negotiations in my life private, between myself, my manager and the tigers. Im ready for training on November 30 andthats all I need to be saying. Thank you."

Suddenly, i guarantee the heat would be back on the club as the big horrible people forcing him out against his will. Its smart business on his part.

But he doesnt have a brain, he doesnt have any self respect and he has little regard for the game and the club obviously. He is being very poorly advised and thats worse, because he is too dumb to see something right infront of his face. Perception is reality.

too late for that play. He might as well have "TOOL" tattooed across his forehead

I don't think it's a conspiracy or a slight on the club. We want our coach to be close to the players. We also don't want him to have 100% control over signings. Undermine the coach completely and you get a Mick Potter situation. Give them too much power and risk a Cleary desperation signing situation.

At my work, my immediate boss is a lot, lot nicer to me than the bloke above him. It's pretty common, I reckon.

*Saab's manager, Mario Tartak, has been agitating for a release from his contract with the Dragons for months, and his client was absent for new coach Anthony Griffin's first day in charge of the joint venture club on Tuesday.

The Herald understands Saab, who still has another two years to run on his contract with the Dragons, wants to link with the Sea Eagles as early the upcoming season on a deal worth more than what he is currently earning at St George Illawarra.*

Sound familiar?

Another excuse, the transport is killing him. So he wants to trade a 2.5-3 hour commute from Greystanes to the Gong for a 2.25-2.5 hour trip to Narrabeen.

I agree with the premise of only enough authority to do what you have to do, but this garbage around Madge is being set up to be Mr NiceGuy "I tried to get you a contract but they said No" so he can remain friends is complete defecation.

In any workplace, and particularly in football with meat heads, it would take 5 minutes for them to start the "coach hasnt got the balls or the power to do anything so we will ignore him" message to come through. It would be totally unproductive and a waste of time. Never heard so much crap in my life.....and people on here with their tin foil hats believe it. Trainee journalists for sure.

Its the way middle management works mate, you can't afford to get those directly below you offside. The middle manager is responsible for achieving the plans of the person above him and he needs to work with those people directly below him to achieve that.

Still staggered that any employee (Aloiai) would be dumb enough to send an insulting text to his boss (Pascoe) when he must have known he needed the club's agreement to an early release from his current contract. He obviously has to go. That said, we need to make someone pay for this release-perhaps Manly if that's where he's going or we run the risk of this being used against us in the future.

Can't believe this thread has gone over 100 pages for this reserve-grader.
Wonder when Joshy's pro boxing career will take off....he seemed to talk himself up pretty good regarding his boxing prowess.

Wouldn't call Jake T a sulker, he burns after a loss because he busts his gut every game. Would love to have him at our club leading by example.
