Lets also put the manager in the spotlight too- more than a coincidence he manages Funoa-Blake and secures his early release to Manly and then gets Aloiai a 2022-23 deal at Manly apparently contingent on him getting early 21 release from WT. Then Aloiai kicks up stink demanding early release- who has put him up to it? Yes let the NRL investigate- if player manager deregister, if Manly penalise big way.

No problems with requesting release and clubs negotiating, BIG problem with demanding and ultimatum.

It's also interesting how quickly AFB was released. I think it was within a week of asking for a release he'd signed with Warriors.

Were they negotiating with Aloiai at the same time and is that why they were willing to release him so quickly?

I doubt there will ever be any proof of that even though it is possibly true

Josh continuing to laugh about the situation on Instagram. Classy bloke

He is single-handedly destroying his own career. He won't be wanted here, and Manly won't want him either if he's carrying on like this.

Which one's are you referring to.."I'll never wear the Tigers Jersey again" or "I'll make sure it's a super fast track"

1st one

Don't worry ...found it page 55 lol ...I actually stopped checking a few quotes further up when someone had questioned Tiga4eva ..he's been here longer than me lol

He's been here too long to be Josh himself, but it wouldn't shock me if it's actually the player agent. Is there also a Manly4eva, Warriors4eva etc

‘He needs to change’: Manly legend’s Hasler warning to Tigers star

November 18, 2020 10:22am
by ANDREW JACKSON
Source: FOX SPORTS

Another NRL off-season is upon us, albeit with an Origin decider still to come on Wednesday night.
But not much else has changed with another player agitating for an early release.

It is the Wests Tigers once again who have been dragged into a contract dispute after Ryan Matterson fought for an early release last year to join the Parramatta Eels.

Matterson won out in that case but a year later, it seems like players and their agents still have all the power and leverage.

The Tigers are reportedly standing firm on their insistence that they will no longer be a “doormat”, cancelling a meeting with Josh Aloiai after it emerged on Tuesday that he was pushing for a release.

Manly Sea Eagles CEO Stephen Humphreys said to NRL.comthat the club is only currently looking at Aloiai once his contract runs out at the end of 2021.

But the understanding is that if he can secure an early release he will more than happily move on and his social media post mocking the club’s chairman indicates as much.

If Aloiai does win out he will bolster a Manly pack in dire need of some reinforcements up front following the exit of Addin Fonua-Blake.

Sea Eagles legend Mark Carroll has warned Aloiai though that if he does not make a key change he may not last very long under Des Hasler.

“With an attitude like that I wonder,” he told Fox Sports News.

“If you don’t want to play for the club, why keep him? Why pay him? Get rid of him. He doesn’t want to play for the colours, that being the Wests Tigers.

“For him to go to Manly, he’d be a good fit given Fonua-Blake has gone over to the Warriors but he needs to change it [his attitude] before Des Hasler gets his hands on him.”

For the time being though the Tigers have maintained Aloiai must report for training on November 30 and The Daily Telegraph’s Dean Ritchie has called on the club to stick solid with that stance.

He believes this could be a line-in-the-sand moment for the game.

“I hope the Tigers stick solid here,” he said on Sky Sports’ Big Sports Breakfast.

“I really hope they say: ‘You know what, for the sake of every rugby league club, let’s draw a line in the sand and say no, just because you’ve got a better offer isn’t good enough in my eyes to say OK you can leave our club in the lurch, in the off-season, to get more coin.’

“**The contract Manly offered was for 2022-23 on the stipulation that he would prefer if he could come in 2021. It’s not Manly’s fault, they’re doing the best by their club and supporters**.

“But I hope they say: ‘You’re not going it is as simple as that’. The problem is the players have the upper-hand. If they don’t want to play, they go back and play reserve grade and suddenly you have $500,000 of your cap running around in Canterbury Cup and that is where the players win in the end.

“If they agitate enough, the clubs say just go. I hope they draw a line in the sand but generally players win out.”

Another reference to Manly stipulating if they can get him early they will take him. Really scummy of them, Eel-like behaviour.

What's with the rubbish saying 'it's not Manly's fault'...? Yes it is! How is it not their fault? They are encouraging him to break his contract. (If that stipulation is real.) Pathetic.

With Carroll's attitude, there is little wonder Aloiai is acting the way he has been. "If you don't want to play for the club, why keep
him?' Answer is that if your club wants him, there will be a price to pay. Wasn't Hasler reported in the paper as targeting Aloiai to replace AFB?

He won't cost the club 500k to play reserves because he won't play ( I don't think he's on anywhere near that anyway). If the club issues him with breach notices every time he doesn't train or play he'll get sick of that pretty quickly. At the very least by keeping him the club's stuffing Manly's plans. They need him a lot more than Wests do. He would've been a fringe squad member this season with the new signings.

Is it not on the NRL to investigate to see if there is any incentive from Manly to the player for him to seek an early release? If Manly are offering to pay Josh A more if he gets an early release then surely there are grounds to do a full investigation and put a stop once and for all to this process. Its so unprofessional. Amateur hour in the NRL sometimes

Lee is attending a meeting with V'Landys in the next week or two to highlight this anomoly. V'Landy's has been qouted as supporting Lee on this issue.

Manly won't care. It will be forgotten next year until Manly play WT and quotes will be dug up in the media.

Just as Parra don't care about the rubbish Moses and Matterson put on the club.

They will be a stronger side, and we will be weaker. That's the likely end result.

Seriously clubs reap what they sow. weve said to guys like packer and reynolds that they are free to look around and wont play first grade here to encourage them to jump ship before the end of their contract is up.

Is that what happened ? We have two guys taking up a huge chunk of the salary cap and they are under performing. We can't get rid of them and they have been given numerous opportunities.

What happens is we develop a player (Aloiai) or we purchase a player (Matterson) and they over perform and we are immediately penalized because they agitate for a better contract at a different club.

Obviously manly have already secured our average prop for 2022 on 700k but want him early as they are short a prop

Well we can certainly help them out while looking after ourselves

They can have Packer on a discount at the 600k we have him signed for

100k saving to the scum

We get to keep aloiai on 350k but gain 250k from packers exit

Aloiai can either aim up or spit and get heavily fined for not performing duties while wasting away in CC

WIN WIN for all here at WT

And Manly get their average 600 to 700k forward for the 3 years

I thought Josh played really good this year and on the back of that was chasing an upgrade which wa probably justified.

And the club offered him one. A generous one. It's not our club's fault that Manly offered ridiculous money, and we would have been mad to match it.

Totally agree mate wasnt defending him just sad

I wonder if Russell Packer could transfer to Manly instead of Aloia? Wests Tigers might even make a generous offer for the transfer to go ahead..

What Im saying is we cant complain. whether underperforming or over performing we would get ride of them before their contract is over in a heart beat. reality is that both club and player can agitate for an early release and they both do it all the time. for me a contract is worth something so parties involved should stick it out unless both agree but dont think for a minute its only players...Mansour was playing just fine

I can't see this ending well for all parties. The club, via Lee, shouldn't be shooting it's mouth off publicly but privately definitely play hard ball. Let JA come off looking like a brat which is hurting his brand.
A trade with Paseka would be a nice outcome

I like the way Following the LM circus, Madge publicly stated WT will not be paying overs for anyone! I like the stance Lee is taking publicly on this Aloiai issue, just hope he doesn’t allow it to go further, which I’m sure he won’t. This is all about the culture and WT image that we all wanted changed. ***What does confuse me is why Pascoe isn’t the one leading this change in direction?*** Talking to a mate recently, he had all sorts of issues. His doc advised him to stop drinking coffee and it solved all his problems.

Because Lee has a higher profile and carries more weight than Pascoe does by nature of the fact that he sponsors and fetes such a wide spread of the NRL landscape. He is widely liked and respected.

I agree, Lee has a higher profile and respect etc.
my point is, is this one of those occasions when WT need the chair to deliver such a message? Don’t misunderstand me, I love The message and Lee’s brutal delivery in defence of the club’s integrity but the CEO could have done that, surely? ***The more Lee does this the lower his standing***. If this turns into a dogfight you’ll see what I mean.
Anyhoo, it feels good to support a club which refuses to get pushed around by others for their own advantage.

Given the support in the media for the Wests Tigers over this issue I’d say the exact opposite. It raises Lee’s standing taking on the breaking of contracts and taking on the power player management has.

A line in the sand has been drawn. Now it’s up to Lee to defend that line.
