An Nrl Club To Be Axed?

Manly has to stay - only club on the Northern side of the harbour.

I'd vote for Roosters and Souffs - small areas and few junior clubs and crowds in the Eastern Suburbs. Won't hold my breath though.

There's no other national sports team north of ther harbour so I don't see the need for the scum .

@gallagher i dont agree i think the NRL would love to swing the axe on us, imo have been itching to for quite some time, hopefully your right and im wrong though.

They had the opportunity when balmain went cap in hand to them, but they gave us a loan. The people we should fear in regards to our future is our admin.

Personally I loathe the thought of any club being kicked out. I’m grateful at this point it’s not us they are talking about, but it’s still a bitter pill for any supporter of any club to swallow.
Footy is not a tv series you just cancel and move onto something else, it’s a way of life. You can’t expect people to be passionate about it one minute and then take their club from them the next.
I struggle to remember the last time Ch9 had the best interests of Rugby League at heart. Any of you other oldies around here remember the one hour highlights package they used to dish up on a Sunday arvo before pay tv came along?

The weakest club (IMO) is the Titans, so I'd just relocate them... they'd probably need to be re-branded (again) to remove the stench of the Titans

Since when does Channel Nine get to dictate another businesses expansion plan?

Thought the same. Maybe channel 9 should be axed from the rights to broadcast NRL. The commentary for one is appalling.

When does some knob from a TV station tell the NRL what to do? He might only last a year in the job.

It's all about more greedy advertising revenue off the NRL back for Channel nine and Foxtel.

Foxtel want the number of teams increased, read the story.

Gosford Sea Eagles and the St George Sharks, delete the Titans.

Yep, Foxtel doesn't believe in cutting/relocating a team. Rather a brand new franchise in Brisbane.

Well News Ltd have more influence in the game than channel 9 so I suspect Fox well get their way

Well a car dealership principle has had a fair say in it for a lot of years

Either 2 new teams (New Brissy team and one in Perth) to make the comp 18 teams (like AFL).

Or if 16 is the limit, then Sharks to relocate to Perth (the Perth Sharks makes sense) and cut Titans to make way for West Brisbane or whatever they'll call it.

Although Central Coast Sea Eagles also has a ring to it. However, apart from their money, Roosters makes the most sense to cut... Or maybe merge with Manly...

I posted this 6 months ago about how a licence would not be offered to one Sydney club. If Ch9 have input neither West’s or the Dragons will be punted as this is based on ratings and Ch9 love both and the NRL would be very wary of trying as there respective clubs and supporters have already been through the pain of becoming joint ventures .
This is exactly the time the proposal from the West’s group to payout Balmains debt and rename there Profitable markets club to Weststigers , the Rozelle club is pie in the sky at this stage but could happen down the track . This seems to be a strategic move by the West group in keeping a profitable club operating and keeping the rich Balmain junior system and renaming them also as Weststigers to strengthen the whole brand .
I would like some information on when or if the COE is going ahead surely this would already be in the pipe line ! Looking at the short term playing out of three grounds might be an advantage as WSS seems to be puss to most and the other large stadiums will be out of action until after the new TV deal .
Now IMO this could all amount to nothing , who says in 3 yrs Ch9 will be in any position to tender for another rights deal ! from what I have been told the 9 network is not travelling all that good . Let’s face it in three years technology will be a different animal , Foxtel will be independently streaming the sports channels from next year no need to have Foxtel connected just pay for the streaming and 5G that is going to open up a whole new era .. so where does this leave FTA Tv well certainly not where they are at present the technology will open up a huge market to the general public for a reasonable amount of dollars .

A bit arrogant of Ch9 assuming they have the monopoly on the TV rights. You think they would have learned after losing the cricket.

Or better still Roosters merge with Souths, it could be a real interesting combination.
