BRAITH Anasta is hoping his NRL move mirrors that of fellow Roosters discard Nate Myles who has become State of Origin's best performer since leaving Bondi Junction.

Speaking with The Daily Telegraph from inside Tigers camp on the NSW Central Coast, Anasta revealed that a phone call from Myles, who this year enjoyed outstanding form with the Gold Coast, Queensland and Australia, helped convince him to take his own leap of faith with Wests Tigers for 2013.

The revelation comes as new coach Mick Potter confirmed the 30-year-old would be reborn as a back-rower in 2013, with the mercurial Benji Marshall set to retain the No.6 jumper.

Said to be a negative influence on the Roosters side that struggled in 2011, Myles switched to the Titans this year where his form immediately surged. Cementing his place in the Australian Test side, the Titans Player of the Year was also rewarded with the Dally M second-rower gong and Wally Lewis medal as Origin player of the series.

"When I was having a conversation with Nate, he told me, 'wait until you move … you'll feel this whole new burst of energy'," Anasta explains. "And it's true, I have.

"I think when players are taken out of their comfort zone, that's when they respond best. Look at how it worked for Nate. And how he made it work by training his backside off.

"So I'm hoping my move will have a similar effect.

"New club, new coach, new environment ... you're just hit with all this new energy."

Potter yesterday confirmed Marshall would play five-eighth this year, telling The Daily Telegraph: "Benji's an exceptional talent who can do things other players just can't and we want to make that blossom."

Anasta also insisted he was looking forward to playing back-row and to lead by example at his new club.

I know it's all dependent on how much we payed but I've said all along I think he's a great buy for the club.

Beyond what he can do on the field he'll help a lot off. With heaps of youngsters coming through the ranks in a lot of positions I think he's the perfect role model to have around. Outside of our club captain we've now got the kiwi captain (and all stars captain if that means anything) and ex-roosters captain so there's no shortage of good heads about.

He is going to kill for us and extra option.
6\. Benji
7\. Miller
9\. Farah
13\. Anasta
= Points

He will be a great buy I feel. He is a great trainer and brings a professional attitude on and off the field.

Also its nice to see common sense finally prevailing. Anasta was never going to play 7 from the moment Sheens was given his walking papers. Can't believe so many on here got sucked into that nonsense

I agree, and he was a steal at $200k a year, people can bag him all they like, but he puts in and is a big game player,he will be a an astute buy.

I reckon it's distinguished haha.

but yeah another good point above- we really struggled for creativity around the park last season and were very predictable. with another creative player around the park at least we can help take the pressure off of robbie/benj and whoever starts at halfback/full back

I wasn't too wrapped when we first signed him supposedly to be partnering Benji in the halves but since Sheens has gone and Potter will more than likely have BA playing in the back row, IMO it gives our team a better balance and i can see him being a calming influence with Miller and he might even become his bodyguard on the field like Beau Scott was for Soward.

It has turned out to be an astute signing now thanks to Sheens, BA will take pressure of Benji and Farah allowing them to play more of their natural game without everything having to revolve around them, it will be another kicker in general play/field goal option and he is a handy goal kicker to boot as a forum member posted recently, that if BA is the goal kicker we can have Benji, Farah and Miller working out what they want to try in the following set of six while BA is taking the conversion.

I'd be inclined to play Anasta on the fringes as opposed to at lock. He was playing second row for the Roosters in their grand final run which proved effective. I'd play Blair at lock to try and bring him closer to the middle and to get him playing a Paul Gallen type of role. This year Blair played like an extra centre… We need to get him more involved and I think a move to lock would do that.

There's certainly worse ways that our spine could line up. If they are all at their best they will strike the fear of God into the opposition.
