Afternoon All

I was told (from a mate who is involved with Club Rugby) that the Tigers had been chasing the Stand-Off for Randwick, Andrew Deegan.

Apparently the Tigers chased him a couple of years ago but he decided to stay in Rugby.

The guy can kick goals from everywhere and would probably be a good centre.

Anybody heard anything similar?

Was he the Australian schoolboy 5/8th a few years ago??? I remember seeing a highlight package of him, and he sure could kick

Surely we've signed enough rugby converts that have been bust. If its a goal kicker we need it might as well you be a player you can sign who can fit in come round 1 next yr, not someone who needs to adjust to new a code.

i remember there was a story on here a couple of years ago that we were talking to him. cant say ive heard the guys name apart from the two threads on here.

I think Deegan is stuck behind a young five eighth at Randwick who is in the Waratahs squad. I've seen him play and he is a fine goal kicker and has a very good long kicking game. I know in the games I have watched Deegan has been excellent in gaining field position. I'd say he would be in demand from other Rugby franchises his style of play reminds me of a current NRL coach.

I worked very closely with deegs at joeys, I used to be their strength and conditioning coordinator, and spent a lot of time out of the gym with him and his (at the time) first XV coach…
He does have a good long kicking game for sure, he was a very talented school boy rugby player, he killed it there, the number of afternoons we would be kicking footy together he had a great skill set...
But I do not believe we need to be chasing him at all, and I believe (as he used to say a couple of years ago), that he would only switch codes if it meant gaining promotion, otherwise it's just a lateral move whilst needing to learn a new game. We don't need him at the Tigers, and I don't believe for a second he would leave rugby..
But I haven't spoken to him in two years so who knows

Shute Shield to NRL is a fair pay rise though.

Signing a decent Super 15 Rugby winger who is a goal kicker wouldn't be a bad move. This kid doesn't sound like he fits the mould.

Maybe one of the Fiji sevens blokes is a dead eye placekicker.
