Andrew Fifita

watch the replay in the light of day this morning, agree these 2 went well, thought Fifita was a much improved player from last year, looked fit and alot more mobile.
He did have a couple of good straight charges which i think was new as well.
The forwards as a hole went alot better than i remembered (after watching live), we actually had not much trouble going forward and stopped them reasonable well with a couple of exceptions. Fultons miss on morris the obvious exception.
Our last tackle options and effectiveness were deplorable, and we kicked (often poorly) on the 3rd and 4th way too often.
Robbie was very quiet in attack, defended well, but not himself, not sure why we played so conservative, it was leaving our best weapon (our creativity and flair) in the kit bag, hopefully we dont do that again!

It was a pity that our big names did not stand up like Woods and Fifita I thought Fifta was our best last night and Woods needed more game time If bryce is fit (I doubt he will be) I would keep Fifita . Then again i will be surprised if Gareth Ellis will play after rolled ankle so both will play . My starting pack would be
13 Heighington
12 Fulton
11 Fifita
10 Payten
9 Farah
8 Gallaway
bench forwards Dwyer Woods Shirnack
Again this assuming Gibbs and Ellis not playing

There was an article posted here last week on Fifita saying how he was disappointed with how he finished last year, his weight had blown out to 118kg so he worked very hardin the off-season to get down to 110kg. It certainly showed last night as he was a lot more mobile around the ruck and got through more defence. As far as attack goes, he's very good off the back of a powerful charge by another player which has drawn defenders in, but needs to work on doing the dirty hitups more. This will come with experience.

Woods also looked ok in his limited time and showed he has a good motor.

I thought Woods was much more impressive than Fafita. Its clear Woods will tackle and run hard at any end of the field. Fafita is a super talent, but until he starts doing the hard yards in our own half then im not prepared to talk about him much more. It took him 3 sets of six when we were getting drilled by the dogs to have a run. When he see's the tryline his eyes light up and u see his potential, but get us in our own half and he goes missing.

From the Official Wests Tigers website - ANDREW FIFITA UNDERTAKES PROPS PENTATHLON
16/03/2011 10:43:24 AM

Wests Tigers supporters have an extra reason to tune into the NRL on Fox show tonight (Wednesday, March 16).

Apart from being a very informative and in-depth show on rugby league, the popular Props Pentathlon segment returns tonight for the first time in season 2011.

Leading the way up front is talented young Wests Tigers prop Andrew Fifita who undertook a series of kicking drills at Concord Oval under the guidance of centre Blake Ayshford. Both boys had plenty of fun shooting the segment.

And as to how Fifita went, well we can’t spoil what happens so you will just have to tune in.

NRL on Fox can be seen live at 7.30pm on Fox Sports 2\. Don’t miss it!

Give him the goal kicking duties. Nearly planted one from the sideline!

Andrew Fifita still has a 100% success rate for the Magpies…...

Trolling Rothfields forum yesterday a Sharks supporter posted this comment in regard to the possible news that Snowden will return to Newcastle:

Hey Buzz
>
Long time listener 1st time poster…...
Now can you please hint the names of the news forwards Flanno is gonna ring?!?!?!?
Very excited to get some new blood in the side, we dont want another Ferguson fiasco.
Also shout out to Flanno getting some points out of the sharks, we have a great for and against at the moment only a few rounds in!!! So glad i support the Sharks and not Parra!! WOO!

To which that meathead Rothfield replied:

One hint - they play for the Tigers

The Sharks look to be targeting Fafita, and probably to a lesser extent BMM or Woods. They have somewhere in the realm of $350,000 a year to splurge on him. Thoughts?

Sorry $350000 a year for potential is way overs . Woods would worry me he is worthwhile to keep but Fifita and BMM no one in their right mind would spend $350000 a year on them YET

Should be no surprise now that our players are sought after by many clubs. Whether Fafita or Woods wants to go play for the sharks, or whether we can fit them all under the cap, who knows?

Yeah it was reported in yesterdays telegraph that Shane Flanagan had he phone numbers of a couple of up and coming young front rowers and was going to give them a call to take the place of kane snowden, couldnt see them going there unless they where chasing the money, still think thats way overs for them though.

That pack would be tempting.. If the boys wanna stay I believe we will accomodate them.
Woodsy, I can't see going anywhere!! EVER!! I'd Like to think Fifi is loyal to the Club that took him
out of Group 20\. But I think he will chase the $$$ for sure….

No Suprises here - Im sure the Tigers are already working the numbers.

Be wary of the Dogs, Sharks and Parra…

If they take Fifita, I'm not too fussed tbh. We're bound to lose some young players and imo Fifita hasn't really come on like I expected him to. His penetration is minimal, his only real attribute is his fend and that only worked at first because players were trying to tackle him properly. Now they realise that have to arm grab him, it's show over for Mr Fifita. Other than the one 50 metre try he has done absolutely nothing this year except crab sideways and get arm slung to the ground. Out of Woods/BMM and Fifita… I'd be least upset to lose Fifita.

Were you expecting him to be a SOO quality prop after 10 games? Fifita needs greater penetration no doubt. But he has developed a lot faster than Gibbs ever did. I would keep Fifita, Woods and BMM and let Gibbs go if we were forced.

You can't be serious about Gibbs can you . Gibbs defensively is the best prop in the game and does wonders for our line speed in defense . He rarely gives away penalties in defense anymore and is a wiiling worker and gives our forwards a grit \bite .
