Andrew Ryan

I remember back in 1991 Warren Ryan signed Graeme Wynn, Tony Rampling and Ron Gibbs on one year deals. They were all in the twilight of their careers and the wok was heavily criticised at the time. Proved a masterstroke as Wests got to the semi's. They covered injuries that year and they toughened up the pack. He may be a good buy especially with the young forwards coming through.

Could do worst then Ryan…..especially if dwyer doesnt recover which I hope he does but a forward pack with ryan in there would look pretty good

8\. Blair
9\. Farah
10\. Galloway
11\. Ellis
12\. Ryan
13\. Heighinton

With a bench of

14\. Groat
15\. Bell
16\. Fulton
17\. Dywer

5 Internationals and 1 State Rep??!!!

He's not the player he used to be, but he could still do a good job at the right price. His attack is down on previous years, but he's still a tackling machine and would be good for depth.

I think he'd give us more value than Fulton tbh.

Listening the other day to an interview where it was raised with him about speaking with the Tigers, their was absolutely no enthusiasm. It was clear to me that it was the bulldogs or Super League.

Signing Andrew Ryan would be about as good as when we signed Terry Hill

thats an exaggeration
at the time the Tigers signed Tezza at the end of 99,he still had a lot to offer, and despite having a lot of injuries played realy well when he was fit and even represented NSW as a Tiger
poor comparison

Ryan is basically a poor man's Heighington, only older and slower. He makes no impact in defense or attack. An easy target with the football, and doesn't sting or intimidate without.

We will have to agree to disagree on this GBR4LIFE. For me his best effort was when he tombstoned David Vaileki at Leichhardt Oval and then fell over a minute later (like Rick Flair) when he thought a penalty was coming. I think the team we had at the time made his efforts look better than they were.

Andrew Ryan is getting on and has little to no impact on the field these days, signing him would be a step backward in my opinion

I think Terry Hill gets a bit of a raw deal. Yes he had some injury problems but he played some decent games in some very ordinary teams and at least put in an effort. Compared to Owen Craigie and Matt Seers he was a fantastic buy!

I remember one game at Leichhardt in (I think) 2001 when we were really struggling and playing in front of a smallish crowd. Terry scored a try or at least played a part in setting one up to get us back in a game and was returning to his position near the sideline. The bloke next to me and myself were the only people making any noise - we were shouting some encouragement to Tezza and he turned around and started shouting encouragement to us and trying to get the rest of the crowd to lift.

For all his faults, I'll never forget that.

Do we have the money to sign him, we get rid of Gibbs and Fifita and sign Ryan, obviously he must be a lot cheaper but one minute we have salary cap problems then start signing people, he must be on looow money.

couldn't question his enthusiam.I remember 1 game against the Dogs,it was actually in 2002 when they beat the Dogs and Parra in round's 1 and 2,and the Tigers scored a try at a crucial time and he was waving like a mad man for all the younger players to race in and get involved in the celabration to get them pumped up
thats 1 thing you couldn't question with him.Ryan on the other hand, after spending so long in the Blue and White, you have to wonder if his heart would be in it with any other club

What are the reasons from signing Andrew Ryan?

We're not signing him. It never went past the vague suggestion/thought stage. Certainly (to my knowledge) no contracts were offered. Much ado about nothing really…

Happy to agree with this, Terry's enthusiam was evident to say the least. You make an interesting point about Ryan, I think it would be very hard starting at a new club after playing for another club for so long and having been the captain of the former club
