Another Bunji Marshall headline

Funny how times change from 2005 till 2012/3ish..hardly a bad word was ever spoken about Benji…if it was it was howled down by the majority of the forum....now it seems Benji is friendless..

I'm a fan of his and will be forever appreciate what he brought to the Wests Tigers....He has now moved on ...maybe we should as well

I'm not sure what Benji brought to the Tigers in the end Geo

Self serving mediocrity is all I see sorry

We are still paying the price for the premiership we won

Was it really worth it ??

2005 was so long ago.

Hey Geo, see if people still like you on here if you started to support Manly or Parra. It's normal behaviour

I'd rather pluck out my eyes with hot pokers than support either of them …gawd....

I'm just saying I appreciate what Benji did for the Wests Tigers both on and off the field....don't feel the need to rag on him for the way he finished ...left or what he's doing now..others do that's fine...each to their own...

Plus...I blame Sheens..

I wasn't happy with the way he left. I thought it was anything but professional. I've always admired how he was honest with his efforts, but these articles came out every six months and he always relapsed. I suppose that always happens with players of his calibre (playing on instinct always results in spontaneity and the results are either rocks or diamonds,) but I think the fan frustration largely came about from him recognising his mistakes and then invariably continuing to make the same mistakes over and over again.

Benji would be best served just playing footy and not writing these articles.

Our Mate Bunji held a Live press conference on SPORTAL tonight..

Here are the Q's and A's from our once elite player…They actually posted my question below.....good ole no accountability Benji
******************************************************************************************************
QUESTION from Alex: Why did you allow yourself to drop the bar(by your own admission) during your last 2 years at the Tigers when you were one of the highest paid players and a senior role model in the team?

Benji: "I don't think I relaxed I think it was more honesty from the people around me. I think at the Tigers I don't know what it was, maybe it was a respect thing or people too scared to tell me but no one really told me the truth about where I was at and as a player you need that stuff from your coaches and your training stuff. And at the Dragons that's what's great about (coach) Mary (McGregor) and the training staff - they tell you the truth. And they even said, 'you need to drop a few kilos and be a bit fitter' and that's what I'm trying to do."

You never ever read these quotes from Thurston, Cronk, Smith, Slater, Inglis, or any of the other premier players in the game. Yet its Benji's calling card, the majority of his career has consisted of him making excuses for himself. Hell, even Jarryd Hayne as lazy and worthless he's made himself to be at long periods would never say those things over and over, he'd just get on with it. Not this guy though, he has to make a spectacle of himself, then a couple months later will the say the same thing again. Einstein said that the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. As someone said earlier, he complains that no one gave him guidance, or let him know when the rot set in, yet Potter gave him an obvious alarm bell and he reacted like a spoiled brat, so it shows how sincere he is about that.

It was in the best interests for everyone that he moved on cos by the end he'd become a cancer on and off the field. Couldn't do anything right on the field, cost us continuously, including a semi, and off it wanted to run the show.

The most embarrassing thing was the way he admitted to reacting to Ryan and Heignington leaving by walking into his kitchen and crying. He wrote an article about it iirc.

He's too unprofessional, and not what's needed for a club trying to forge a culture. You run away as fast as you can from the Benji Marshall's if you want a culture that is going to be positive and create results. We are better off without him, regardless of what state we are in. Having him here wouldn't benefit anyone but the opposition.

Very well said…congrats...

Had an interesting convo with my mate at cricket yesterday…. He was marshall's half back at keebra, he reckons that rangi chase is and always has been a better rugby league player than benji, said benji was amazing at touch though, also said benji knew the right things to say to the right people and that is why he is where he is (I cleaned that up a bit) also interesting to note Greg Eastwood was the fullback in their team at 14

Yes I agree sheens did not develop this young kid .
And Humphrey's gave him whatever he wanted .
But Benji Marshall's biggest enemy was him self.

Benji was great at the Tigers most of his time here,Sheens did a lot for the WTs when they appeared to be a rabble and did win a premiership…

However the past is past, they contributed and now we must move on to be a far better club in the future... :sign:

Hallmark of a good coach is to leave the place in better condition than you found it. We're just as big a rabble, if not worse, than 2003.

Benji i've been telling you your crap for years, all you had to do was jump on here and read my many posts on how utterly hopeless your game had gotten.
But i have to admit the best thing the WT did was sign Benji Marshall back then, and also the best thing that the WT did was to let him go (probably 3 yrs too late but still).

Great question! If getting benched by the coach doesn't tell you were you are at, then clearly you are not listening!

He was alright last yr for the Dragons, probably cos he felt like he had something to prove. I think he'll revert back to his old self this yr now that he'd be comfortable in his surroundings. He looked like the old Benji in the Nines match the Dragons played earlier. Sure its just the nines, but this is a format he'd have run amok in once upon a time.

Benji, let your footy do the talking.
Once a dominant shining star, as happens with a lot of players over the years, the shine slowly fades away.

We are grateful for some of your performances.
