Another Quick Forum Update

Jeez..I must be reading a different forum..
Cochise and Willow are the two most balanced, sensible and respected voices on this forum!!
They do a great job in promoting the conversation on a civil and sane basis..often against considerable headwind I mite add
Rex,Im flabbergasted!

It's so untenably incredulous I can almost hardly believe it!

I'll be honest I don't even know what those big words mean, lol.

So it looks like the discord crew are pro getting rid of Cochise , and willow , and the users of WTF are against it ? Is that a simplification ? Maybe .
It seems politicking in the background has got these 2 removed . I don’t mind that they’re gone , and in fact , I’m sure they don’t mind relieving the burden , but the way it was announced , seems pretty insensitive, considering the amount of hrs they put into it. Regardless of whether you like / agree / advocate , for them .
Honestly , if those people have politicked behind closed doors for the axing , should automatically be excluded from applying for the position .
I’d change truely is necessary , then third parties , not emotionally tied to any one faction or opinion , should be the only ones considered.

I rate Cochise and willow and enjoy their opinions. This surely is going to go a long way to removing them .
And as such it will reinforce the discord type echo chamber , I’ve noticed in this place for a while now .

Sigh...

Original post says:

"feedback received from a diverse range of stakeholders over the last 12 months."

Discord hasnt even been in use for 6 months.
And there's another guy blaming LU?

Maybe there isn't anything to blame for this and it's time for a change.
It's really not that big a deal.
There's still mods.
No one's banned.

Straight up demps , nothing personal, I generally like you , but I’m calling BS here . The elephant in the room is you petitioned KUL to get back on the site , with clear daggers for willow and Cochise . And then, no less than 6 months later both those mods are gone after a secret poll on most hated forumer , of which I’m sure I was on there . (I actually think it’s funny for the record ) .

This also coincided with the beginning of discord , and a real concerted effort form a very distinct echo chamber , to take over the forum .

I don’t believe you’re some Machiavellian schemer , but to pretend that you didn’t have a large part in thier demise , and now straddle the fence is insulting to most people’s intelligence .
At least the death riders , as class less as it is , are owning it .

You’re not fooling anyone mate . Nothing personal. But I think the way this has been handled , considering how much those 2 put in , and clearly cared about the forum , even if “it’s just the internet” , is distasteful.

Not attacking anyone . Just talking about the elephant in the room .

Neither did Rex.

It’s 2021, we’re diversifying guys.

I’d like to put my bejewelled hand up for the trans spot if it’s not taken yet?

What's this echo chamber thing?

In discussions of news media, an echo chamber refers to situations in which beliefs are amplified or reinforced by communication and repetition inside a closed system and insulated from rebuttal.[1] By participating in an echo chamber, people are able to seek out information that reinforces their existing views without encountering opposing views, potentially resulting in an unintended exercise in confirmation bias. Echo chambers may increase social and political polarization and extremism.[2]

I'm on Discord and we tend to disagree just as much as we agree. No conspiracies afoot.
It's just a relaxed atmosphere among adults who talk footy and life without a need for moderation. Everyone who doesn't take themselves too seriously can join, it's not exclusive as far as I know, ppl are joining all the time. We do tend to talk a lot of trash and we do use the word s**t, be warned

What happens over there is a matter for Discord. The issue many of us have is that crew coming back and constantly complaining how this place isn’t like Discord. Well, why come back then? Don’t mean to have a go, I’m just curious. Because usually if you feel the need to go somewhere new, cos the old place has too many rules, you leave the old place for good. So why come back to the old place and constantly complain? Why not just stay at the new place?

I'm sure you were aware of why I left as you've commented on it before.
I've been here for nearly 10 years and the last year it has been over moderated. As I've said before, I can own up to getting banned when I carry on and have been banned plenty for it. That's ok, that's on me. My problem was getting banned for disagreeing with a mod, not swearing, disagreeing.
Also never said this place is better/worse than Discord. That was the first time I mentioned it that I'm aware of?
I'm back now because things have changed, hopefully for the better. Ive always enjoyed it here until recently. Don't think im alone there.

Okay so now everyone has got the finger pointing out of the way (I think) let’s look at ways we can make improvements to the forum experience. My suggestions for Kul:

Banning- 3 mods should be required to approve a ban. A 24hr temporary ban can be in place while it’s assessed. I’ve noticed a lot posters with the ‘banned’ badge next to their name and quite a few I haven’t understood why.

Language - low level swearing should be allowed (shit, crap, BS) especially in the game day thread. High level swearing should remain out to avoid offending some users.

Running jokes - by this I mean the ‘punt him’ and ‘48 hours’ posts. Just let them run their course eventually they will run out of stream by deleting or drawing attention to them they just get extra fuel.

Off topic - sometimes threads will naturally run off topic. Unless it’s a concerted effort to derail a thread just let threads organically evolve.

Deleting posts - posts with minor infractions should be flagged for the user to fix before being deleted. So many threads recently have been strings of deleted posts.

Down votes - I think they should come back as they are an easy way to disagree with something. I understand some people feel they were used to target users and this is unacceptable.

Most of all people need to realise we are talking about written words which are easy to misinterpreted. Try not to get personal and at the same time try not to take things personally. We don’t know what is going on in anyones lives here and should remember that and accept differences of opinion.

Jesus, I hate to say it but a lot of you blokes take these forum politics way too seriously.

Is it that complex a thought that people could just come on here and have spirited conversations about all things Tigers?

Also I hate to break some of your bubbles, but 90% of posters barely recognise your username, so your forum ego is kind of pointless.

Nailed it.

You get my vote.

I’m with you…..until I’m plastered over three media platforms with nasty personal insults and my RL photo posted by people attacking me.

This stuff is happening as much as some here want to deny and point at rainbows and unicorns.

But yeah. Punt Willow and Cochise

The problem on here isn't Willow or Cochise. It is the fact that on a forum of supposed adults, the mods need to be so heavily relied upon.
There are constant back and forth arguments that go on forever. Whilst the mods should shut it down when it happens, it shouldn't get to that point very often. How about we all pull our heads in a bit?
