Another Quick Forum Update

This is a sad day for the forum. I’ll show my cards by declaring I’m a good mate of @cochise . Hi is a passionate, dedicated mod who puts hours into helping maintain standards. @willow I don’t know but he does the same. The standards on this forum are due to our mods. It’s largely a pleasant place because of them. The way these two mods were treated including the lack of communication around the changes was unprofessional and poor. They both deserve better.
I, like many, have posted less and less over the past 6 months because of the drop in standards and increase in negative and personally abusive posting. I fear this will increase. Very sad I think.

Anyway, change is as good as a holiday.

You seem to be deathriding them demps ? almost gloating dare I say ? I’m not judging , you did get banned for a few years . But do you honestly think it’s going to be noticeably better ? If at all. What happens if the new mods have an axe to grind against someone else ?
Then the whole thing begins again? Has it really been that bad ?

I think it's naive to think this forum is ever going back to drama free. You can make your changes, it's your forum after all, but drama free and social media are mutually exclusive.

Maybe if Tigers make the finals for 5 or 6 seasons in a row, there may be a bit of heat taken out of the forum; but I doubt it.

Of course I will give it a chance; but I see no issues with what any of the mods have been doing to date - be that "in the good old days" or more recently. It's not as if the mods have substantially changed recently, or changed their application of the rules - it's the same folks who were doing the thankless task month after month.

Personally I believe, and I've said this before, that since COVID and other societal issues of the past few years, social media has become more and more toxic. The forum is just the tip of a very big iceberg of negativity and bulldust, with most of the ballast provided by Facebook, Instagram, twitter and the like. And I can understand why... a lot of worried, weary, impacted people. But I think also social media has become a negative outlet for people's own frustrations and emotional issues, and I think people have become more and more bold about using online anonymity as a mechanism for venting in a manner which they would never dare do face-to-face.

So I don't like that some mods have been effectively retired in public and without consultation. I think that's bad form. It shows the true colours of the forum - it's a benevolent dictatorship, and therefore anyone who is asking for "more free reign" or more light-handed moderation is forgetting that ultimately it still comes back to the powerbroking and ownership of a very select few people.

Totally agree Steve. Thanks @cochise and @willow for all your efforts, have found just about all your actions justified and appreciated your posts.

Have posted less myself over the past 6 months due to attacks, people going off topic quite a bit, swearing, abuse of posters and people having an opinion (that is what the Forum is for) but to ram it down the Forum, just about every second post is ridiculous and boring.

Hopefully changes will be for the better, we'll see.

Honestly that's the kind of unnecessary aggression that is the core of the recent issues. I didn't say anything to or about you, but you felt compelled to belittle someone - both me here, and cochise about his "services no longer being needed". It's unnecessary.

Avo is basing his opinion off months of regression that this forum has experienced. It’s not just an overnight thing cos 2 mods were removed

Is it really that bad ? My take is that there is some drama with the mods mainly due to people being banned but I don't see how that impacts everyone posting. I also don't think people are banned that easily. Maybe I'm missing something.

Sure the constant talk about Brooks and Maguire gets a little boring but you don't have to read it.

Yeah agree Demps. I think all the mods do a great job. I would hate this forum to end us something like the Dogs forum.

I am not adverse to swearing etc but I do enjoy reading this forum and how it is managed.

Why is the job of Mod being referred to as a “thankless job”? If they didn’t want to do it then why would they? Until AI is up to speed, we need Human Mods. Human Mods after a while are bound to become heavily invested in various opinions and need to be rotated, I don’t see this on the same scale as a shift in the Earths axis.
