Apisai Koroisau #263

Some interesting ideas as to the struggles in the Red Zone, at the 2 hr 4 min mark.

Not going to bag Api, however at times can his service be a little slow?

Yep those one or two steps to the side....not sure if he does it both sides....I noticed particulalry in Gosford, it really does contribute to our sideways play
Its interesting as I missed the game because I went and watched the Matildas in the Asian Cup final....another game where the dominant team didn't win. I have not had the heart to watch a replay of the Tigers game, however have listened to a few pods and reading the comments on here paints such a varying picture of Api's performance, I have heard some say it was phenomenal and other say he stunted our attack. Maybe I should watch a replay and decide for myself.

Im starting to think Benji has decided Api is the one to straighten our attack rather than a lock like other teams. Thats why Api always does this move you describe. Like you say, it may actually contribute to sideways play rather than straighten us. I have always thought when the halves get the ball the dummy half should pass straight from the ground and get the ball theire as quick as possible.

That aside, I think Api's first 2 games have been class and full of heart.

shouldn't the hooker always be looking to straighten the attack to catch markers offside. if you're getting a roll on you can punch them through the middle.

Api is great outside the redzone, once in the redzone he should distribute the ball majority of time rather than over playing things - it costs us big time,

because you want to get the ball into the playmaker's hands as soon as possible to give them time and space?

Yeah thats how I see it mate. Its great for the hooker to engage the markers to give our forwards space, but when we hit the edges we should shift the ball as fast as possible from the dummy half to either the half or the player playing the link role that has become popular in recent years.

Oh yeah Im not really being critical of him....imo theres a time and place for both, either a bullet straight off the ground or a step or two away from the ruck to engage the markers

Its almost like he over thinks the options close to the line.
I think he’s maybe like a fighter who’s been hit too often, the old reflexes are not quite what they used to be. Have a close look at him on Friday night, you’ll see what I mean. Even off the field he’s starting to look a bit “ distant”.
Love him as a competitor just noticed this recently.
