Arana Taumata heading to North Queensland

Good luck to him.

Obviously he had no choice with guns like Brown and Fitzhenry keeping him out of first grade.

Yeh,Tim would never drop them for AJ,or Inglis and Slater, there is no way past these blokes.

I've yet to see AT play but have heard about his talent and the problems he had before he came to the Tigers. To anyone who has seen him play, is the club making a big mistake by letting him go? I had thought he was going to get a run in 1st grade at same stage during the year but now it seems they've just given up on the idea.

Sheens should have given him a go by now,but his favourite kept getting in the team with less ability, hope he can get a go elsewhere,as he will prove to be another Sheens masterstroke. 😢

Not a great Fitzhenry fan but he can tackle. Tomato cannot.

He has something no doubt. Like a more dynamic Barba in many ways.

I would love to have kept him but all things in balance there are only so many projects a club can keep running at the same time and as Lui seems to be improving weekly and is more a playmaker than AJ it does not suprise me to see him looking for greener pastures.

Would have been nice to have him try and get the trophy with BRET this season though

Interesting talent, but neither one thing or another.
Good ball runner, very quick, but no passing game,no kicking game, & too small for centres or wing.
Often wondered whether he cld be a slater type fullback?
He may just do very well at no 6 outside a playmaking half in Thurston in NQL,but no future with us.

Who are all these Sheens masterstrokes - Matthew Head (playing for Dapto Dogs) and Shannon Gallant (playing Queensland Cup) come to mind. Who have I missed???

Daine Laurie

Looking at a possible bench spot in Jim Beam Cup this week from what I have been told.

The worst player on the field for the Wolves in State Cup this past wekened and looked disinterested. All this after Matt Elliott sat him down last week to get him fired up.

Neither can Scott Prince…or Robbie apparently

Would love to have kept him but the club is letting him do what is best for his career and there is no animosity there. Speaking to him yesterday and several times previous he has been nothing but grateful of the chance WT gave him and being able to get his life back on track.
On form Darren Nicholls should be the backup half to cover injury anyway

Good to know there's no animosity.
However, we're not saving any salary cap from this as he wasn't in the top 25 (pretty sure that's right?) and maybe we don;t need him next season when Moltzens back & Lazarus is a year older but this season we don;t have the depth in the halves we thought we had and now we're throwing away part of that depth.
Where's the benefit to the Tigers?

Exactly softy, I dont understand it…depth is insurance

God forbid we now see an injury to the 5/8

…...Or the half....

He's not a half though and his defence has been about on par with that of young Blake in State Cup.

Neither is benji a half, that dont stop him playing there 50% of the time…and its not like weve never had to deal with little blokes that cant tackle.
I just wish he'd got a go in firsts at least once...oh well...

Fair enough.

I honestly believe were it not for his ankle injury he would have been debuting against the Bulldogs but it wasn't to be.

I don't think the move will hurt our NRL squad directly but it will aid the Cowboys squad which may come back and bite us in a big way a few Monday nights from now

Thats the problem…we have one of these already who is world class at offensive,& having another just creates too many defensive liabilities.
Mind u,Benji has improved in this area, but he's still no "axe"

Taumata released from Cowboys

COWBOYS pivot Arana Taumata has requested a release from his contract with the Cowboys effective immediately to return to Sydney.

Arana Taumata is set to be released from his contract with the Cowboys to return to Sydney

Taumata and his girlfriend have struggled with the relocation to Townsville which has lead to the 21-year-old’s manager formalizing a release from his contract.

“We spoke to the club last week and formalized it yesterday,” said his manager Sam Ayoub.

“He hasn’t settled in and his girlfriend wasn’t happy so we asked for a release, it’s pretty straight forward,” Ayoub said.

Cowboys football operations manager Peter Parr told sportsnewsfirst.com.au the play maker's problems are a private matter and will not be discussed publicly.

“We’re in a process with his manager at the moment. It’s been no secret he’s struggled here," said Parr.

"The issue is of a personal nature and I’m a bit surprised anyone knows about it.

“We hope we will have it sorted out in the next few days,” he said.

However, Ayoub told sportsnewsfirst.com.au that the young gun has two Sydney based NRL sides chasing his signature and his future will be known within the next two days.

“We’re close to finalizing something in the next 48 hours,” he said.

Considering the background of Wellington-born Taumata, it would be easy to speculate his release was granted due to disciplinary reasons, however Ayoub and Parr said that’s the furthest thing from the truth.

“As far as I’m aware he hasn’t done anything wrong,” said Parr.

“This is personal not disciplinary.”

Once Taumata’s future is announced, it will be his seventh NRL club in six years having been sacked from the Roosters, Bulldogs, Broncos and Storm.

He joined the Wests Tigers this year training with the first-grade side but playing for NSW Cup team Balmain Ryde before joining the Cowboys.
