Arana Taumata

Hopefully it's just media rumour about Arana talking to Brisbane. If he has signed with the Tigers, that would be excellent news. Lets hope this is sorted out soon.

I know of another player who is being messed around as well, with a contract…

I am looking into a crystal ball.

The player you are talking about wouldn't be Rhys Pritchard would it?

Wish the club would get its act together when it comes to this sort of thing. Pritchard is certainly deserving of a contract and I'd have him on the wing before Ryan.

Yep… loosing Pritchard would be a huge loss imo... surely it wouldn't take much to keep the bloke on board!!!

If he's doing that, combined with his bad history, i say we brush him. Moltzen is showing great signs as a 5/8, which leaves only fullback for taumata, and we have Brown and gallant who are more the capable.

Agreed. If he's going to shop himself around like a pork-chop then we should just brush him.

It's not a good look, is it? However, he has been playing in Brisbane and perhaps has received more constant pressure/interest from them…

Hey smeg, ill give you $100 for that crystal ball of yours ??

This bloke seems like trouble. We haven't even signed him and already there is controversy. Forget about him, he's likely to go off the rails again anyway.

McDonnell also said reports claiming bad boy five-eighth Arana Taumata will head to Brisbane instead of honouring an agreement to join the Tigers were wide of the mark.

Taumata, who has been sacked by four NRL clubs for a variety of misdemeanours, including assault, has signed a two-year deal with the Tigers for the 2010 season.

However, reports have claimed Brisbane were in talks with the 20-year-old, who is playing in the Queensland Cup with Broncos feeder club Easts.

"There is no problems and Arana will be here next year," McDonnell said.

"We have not had to speak to Brisbane because there is nothing to discuss."

Taumaga's manager Sam Ayoub told AAP the story was "complete crap" and said the New Zealand-born playmaker would "without doubt" be plying his trade in Sydney next season.

Ellis success whets appetite for Tigers
Ian McCullough
July 22, 2009 - 4:34PM
The success of Englishman Gareth Ellis in his first season in the NRL could spark a new wave of recruits to Australia from the Super League, according to Wests Tigers recruitment manager Warren McDonnell.
>
McDonnell said the England international's progress with the Tigers this season had not gone unnoticed in the UK, with several players now expressing an interest in following his footsteps.
>
Bradford prop Sam Burgess, who at 20 is rated as one of the most promising talents in the English game, has said he wants to move to the NRL when his contract expires next year, and is a player firmly on McDonnell's radar.
>
"Gareth has probably been one of the best signings we have ever made," McDonnell told AAP.
>
"His professionalism and his attitude are top class and he is also a great role model for our youngsters, we have been delighted with him.
>
"Sam is also a player we like very much. I had a good chat with him out here during the World Cup and unfortunately he was injured and never got the chance to play.
>
"He is very interested in playing out here but I know Manly are also trying to sign him and with Steve Menzies playing at Bradford, it may be that his links with Manly make a difference."
>
With so many Australian players having made the switch to England over the years, McDonnell said the tide could soon turn.
>
"It is becoming harder to sign players here and you also have youngsters being attracted to rugby union so we need to look outside of the square," he said.
>
"With the dollar being in a good state at the moment and the tax laws changing in the UK, Australia is becoming a more desirable place to play for players and it would be great to see more of their top players like Gareth Ellis playing in the NRL."

Well finally a confirmation, too bad it took rumours of another club attempting to sign him to drag it out of them.

Exactly. At least we now know Taumata is on board. If he's earmarked for FG it's going to be an interesting offseason when it comes to choosing the halves for next year.

I think Taumata could be a perfect utility off the bench. He can cover the whole backline and his speed would be devastating out of dummy half late in games. Him and Robbie in tandem would be great to watch!

By the look of it, I wasn't too far off the mark.

When are West Tigers officially going to announce it?

I'm guessing the club didn't really want the publicity of the signing of an "NRL Bad Boy" and were happy to let Arana get on with turning his life around for a fresh start next year. Signing players with a bad history wouldn't help with picking up new sponsors I wouldn't think.

Brandy said on Sports Today last night that Arana has definetly signed a contract with the Tigers for the next 2 years and he cant see any truth that he is speaking to the Broncos….

Hopefully he is right.
