Robbie contacted AT as team captain, chatting about what's happening, next yeat etc, and in converstaion AT spoke of the media report (which had no basis other than sell papers north of the border) and said that it was a lot of bunkum etc etc.

I think it's great that a newly signed player is contacted by the team captain.
Sort of welcoming and reassuring at the team level.

But is it an indication of the Wests Tigers management/professionalism? IMO, not really the same thing.

Yeah…I know I'm not the sharpest tool but What's wrong with Robbie contacting AT...who's to say club management hasn't been in contact and it didn't make the press..

McDonnell did say when this Bronco's rumour surfaced that Taumata will be at the club next year...but I spose that don't count....

My comments are not personal at Bug.
It's just that a lot of assumptions are made, and on this forum, none of us really are in the know to be certain of what goes on behind management doors.

Don - you really need to take some medication - every post i ready that comes from you is generally attacking and calling people names.

YOU never know what you'll find in a Salvation Army store. There are all sorts of gems hidden among the bric-a-brac, even if some of the merchandise is discarded or a bit rough around the edges. A bit like Arana Taumata.

Twice a week you'll find Taumata manning the Salvos store in Preston, Victoria, alongside ''two nice ladies''.

It's very different from the company he used to keep: a crowd that derailed one of the most promising NRL careers imaginable and resulted in him being sacked from four - that's right, four -NRL clubs for alcohol-fuelled offences.

You don't get a fifth chance unless you're something special. The fact that Greg Inglis was set to vacate the No.6 jersey for Taumata at Melbourne, before his last incident, suggests he is pretty special indeed. But before he gets a chance to partner Benji Marshall in the halves at Wests Tigers, there's the small matter of whittling away his remaining community service hours at the Salvos.

''At the start I was kind of getting over it but I try to enjoy it to make the time go faster,'' Taumata told The Sun-Herald.

''The ladies here are nice so it makes it easier. It's all right.

''I like being busy. I hate sitting down and waiting for stuff.''

It was a frustrating wait until he signed a two-year deal with the Tigers. The Kiwi-born playmaker, the son of a television political journalist, admits he took rugby league for granted. That it came too easy too early.

After being cut from the Storm, he was packing containers rather than leading forward packs. The kid dubbed ''AJ'' had it all but was led astray.

''I used to go out with everybody and do whatever I wanted,'' he says.

''I didn't really think that anything would happen. I've definitely learnt a lot - which people to go out with, the crowds to hang around, the places I can and can't go to now.

''This is my last chance, and hopefully the next time I'm going for a contract I can do it on my terms - not getting sacked.

''Hopefully, I'll have two good years at the Tigers and re-sign or go somewhere else.''

The common denominator in Taumata's problems has been alcohol. He has all but given up the pubs and nightclubs but he hasn't given up the demon drink altogether. Now, though, he knows when to say when.

''I haven't been out to the clubs for [ages]. I'm not completely off [alcohol]. It's just being around the right people.

''Me and Robbie Farah talked about this. About being professional and being around people who support you as a person, not just a football player.

''The [Tigers] have put stuff in place for when I go to Sydney. Benji and Robbie are going to be mentors for me.

''At the start I was kind of nervous about going back and I didn't know if I had the right support around me.

''Now I've sat down and talked to a lot of people about it. It's not just about my football. As a person, I think I can do well in Sydney.''

Taumata lives in Melbourne a couple of days a week in a billet arrangement, which allows him to complete his community service.

He flies back to Queensland later in the week to play for Brisbane Easts in the Queensland Cup. When in Sydney, he stays with Matthew Johns, a former Storm halves coach.

''I've learned from my mistakes and I'm really looking forward - I'm not looking back any more,'' he says. ''I want to play for the Tigers next year and prove everybody wrong.''

Loving a change of attitude from Taumata. If there is one club that will help re-form your bad attitude/persona it's WT.. probably one of the best things about the club!

As for Taumata, I'm really unsure where he fits in…
