Are they playing for the coach?

Let's be honest, we just don't have the cattle this year.

As much as everyone hates on the Roosters, the two line-ups said a lot about what it takes to build a winning club in 2021.

The Roosters fielded plenty of young guns that they've developed since teens.

We mostly had a bunch of blokes that other clubs got rid of.

Ironically the Roosters had a lot of success targeting Kepaoa, who they let go of for some pretty obvious reasons.

When you re-sign, select, support and defend a player like Luke Brooks you tie yourself to his fortunes.

The coach will go down with the ship.

He never should have re-signed him and all this negatively Maguire is copping now is his own stupid fault.

The thread title speaks for itself. They gave up today, pretty obvious. 2 players have already walked out mid contract the last two years. Whose to say there aren’t even more unhappy players in the ranks. Though at this point are they even worth losing? Do they even care? If not, why? I’m sure this thread will ruffle a few feathers, but tough

Your guessing stuff, you like all (most) of us have no idea what happens behind the scenes?

Though the only measurement in our game is winning, imo, but we still have a lot of games to go? I’m not panicking yet.

Well the people who do seem to know stuff behind the scenes send mixed messages. The place hasn't been this good in years, no, no, there's still a lot of issues around the place. I think we all expected better than that meek performance to begin a season.

It really does fall on the coach no matter how things are behind the scenes because it has happened enough on his watch. Either their tactics aren't correct or the tactics are correct but the players don't believe in them (which is still on the coach).

I believe in much of what Maguire preaches so I'll support his teams but it really has not translated to the field so far.

You should

The last time the team played with heart and effort was under Mick Potter ,,, and that all turned to crap when he was white ant'd . This club thrives on failure .

The NRL made Madge's tactic obsolete 3 years ago. He has completely failed to adapt

Sheens could bring it back !
Razzle Dazzle was underrated ..
You score 30
We score 40
A win is a win !

I am confused I thought with Marshall gone our defensive issues whould be fixed,I thought that with Maguire having re-signed or recruited 76% of the playing squad and getting the assistant coaches of his choice thought all will be sweet.Apparently I was wrong he is past it there’s a reason bunny’s got rid of him

Probably because he let Keary walk out the door.

The last 10 years of failing to make the finals tells me you probably should. What makes this year so different, blind faith? Lol

Nothing to do with him loosing the players or the team going backwards like us funny that

Does anyone know who our attacking coach is?
Last year now looks like we were solely/too dependent on Benji in this aspect and despite having someone sharp as Laurie, this year looks like we've worsened.

Either way. He probably is the own coach we could attract at this stage unless you want to give Shane Flanagan a shot. Should they approach him as an Assistant prehaps?

Honestly don’t know what the answer is but I’m not getting paid to know, just know we are going backwards very fast.
I also know unlike the club I whould have waited until at least round 10/12 to see how we are travelling before I extended his contract

Yes they are.
- Garner was much better defensively this week - didn't miss a tackle.
- Stefano is already getting better. 38 minutes this week, up from 33 last.

Just a few players who are dragging the chain. The Leilua brothers were really bad today. I think Joey makes his brother play worse.

How many do you think are dragging the chain??
If its 7-8 we have a problem, if its 2 or 3 we can fix it.

DL -played well
Noff - had one of his tentative games he reserves for good teams
BJ - tear up his contract
Talau - did a job
Kepaoa - looks injured or just not NRL standard
AD - unhappy day, tried
Brooks - tried but really poor last tackle execution
Tamou - one lazy miss but otherwise good
Liddle - played ok
Joffa - not up to last week’s effort
LL - had an off day
Twal - solid

Mikaele - offers little
Mbye - trying but little impact
MCK - doesn’t offer much
Stef - played well

Based on that I’d be replacing 5
BJ
Kepaoa
Mikaele
Mbye
MCK

The answer to your question might be D.

Defense is all about attitude...and we have now conceded 24 plus for the 14th? 15th? game in a row. Whatever it is up to now, it is a 100 year record in RL.

So, that is incredibly damming.

Madge is known as a D coach...but no one is defending for more than 30-40 mins.

So, either they are not putting in...or...they just are not very good.

I just don't think the coach is the issue. Our team is not strong. I know the pre-season allows you to imagine how good it could be, but the reality is that we don't have good players.

The really good thing about the recruitment and what must be madge's approach is that we're signing promising players on reasonable contracts and building a team. That is our approach, and it makes sense because we can't get the superstar players, and even if we could I don't know that we have a good enough squad to make that be worthwhile anyway.

So, everyone's having a go, but what else can be done? The players he has bought have mostly shown promise, and those who aren't that good aren't on big or long term contracts. Again, that seems smart.

Today wasn't coaching, we have a weak squad going up against one of the heavyweights in the comp who are in brilliant form. Obviously they could have played better and they haven't started well but you all have to stop being so reactionary.

If I could get Bennett or Bellamy or Robinson I'd sack Madge, otherwise there's a bunch of good enough coaches out there who wouldn't make a bit of difference to this team.

He has a habit of losing the dressing room and this year won't be any different

Should we reserve judgement until they play a so called weak side like Canterbury?

I don't know what we can do. This is the same problem for the Dragons, Broncos, Manly, Cowboys, Warriors, Bulldogs. Some change coaches, others haven't. We all continue to not be competitive. Newcastle and Gold Coast seem to be building. They did that through building around young players and then buying quality. It looks like we're doing the same thing and the fact we've avoided the spoon the past few years is due more to overperformance rather than the quality of our squad. The players don't lack fitness (I don't think), and they're not training to kick like Brooks did today (I hope) but they're just a below average squad that we are in the process of turning over, and that has been Madge's approach since he got here.
