I think people forget this. I know it’s Madge’s third year at the club but the first two years were really trying to weed out the players he doesn’t want and try sign a few decent guys. Now he’s for a squad of mostly guys he wants but a lot them are still developing and not at their peak yet.

It took Brad Arthur 4 seasons to get the Eels to the finals. Took Rick Stuart 3 years to get the Raiders there. Took Cleary 3 years to get Penrith there (the first time).

John Morris has coached Sharks to the finals 2 years in a row, never missed one.

I'm pretty sure John Morris isn't currently a better coach than Madge or Ricky Stuart.

Might be a better man manager !

The players seem like they try their butts off for Morris and Stuart. Can’t say the same for Madge.

Does anyone know who our attacking coach is?
Last year now looks like we were solely/too dependent on Benji in this aspect and despite having someone sharp as Laurie, this year looks like we've worsened.

Same bloke as last year, Shane Millard.

The structures are probably right . But if it’s not at pace , and at the line , it’s all pointless .
The roosters are so crisp . And so we’re the Raiders . Everything we do is before the line , and we can’t keep doing that . If it was me I’d be happy to just play short to a barnstorming backrower all game . At the very least it dents the line .
Luci is not an edge player IMO. He seems like the perfect lock . He doesn’t hit a hole , and really his best skill , is holding the ball up to hit support runners . Tuilagi is a good edge player , and apparently Shaun Blores best attribute is his hole running .

I walked away from the ground mesmerised with just how good of a footy team the roosters are. Seriously any of their forwards could probably play in the halves better than our stock. It’s like they time their plays to a metronome, everything is just so in sync. Then you have teddy to finish it off

We are a long way off competing for anything if that’s the bench mark

We weren’t moving up mate, we made them look even better than they are. Left side was the worst I’ve seen in all my years watching the game.

Mate I crapped myself every time they got into our red zone.

Definitely won’t be the last team they’ll put a cricket score on that’s for sure

Not disagreeing with you , what I saw is a slow, past it centre , who every time a player got any kind of separation from him they put themselves or another player into a gap . I saw the same centre then exposing his half to do clean up work on him , which is ludicrous as most teams have the half be the worst defender on the edge . And because that half stopped trusting that centre, he moved way too far into the centres space , leaving his backrower who was a bit too far inside , in no mans land .

Eggshells

If I was putting together a team, the only one I would look at today would of been Laurie.

The players don’t need to play for the coach - they need to play for their careers.

The pack got owned and the backs were completely out classed. It may be that the coach has no idea - but at least he has coached a premiership winning side - or the players are just not at the same level of the opposition. To be fair man for man there is not many I would keep from our team if we we could swap them with the Roosters squad today.

Yes they are.
- Garner was much better defensively this week - didn't miss a tackle.
- Stefano is already getting better. 38 minutes this week, up from 33 last.

Just a few players who are dragging the chain. The Leilua brothers were really bad today. I think Joey makes his brother play worse.

One other thing I noticed was Liddle running a lot more. As bad as the team was, there were definitely some players trying hard to fix things they struggled with last week, on the coaches advice I'm sure

We're not that far away IMO. Most of the problems are caused by small issues like ruck speed and a single player not doing their job in a structure at a particular time. Can be fixed quickly, and once it clicks we'll be all good.

To me it all comes down to attitude. It was very poor in the second half. That is the coaches job, getting them in the right frame of mind.

Playing for the coach is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. Almost as stupid as this thread. Once you put a jersey on and your doing this as a full time job (earning huge amount of money) you go out there with your pride and integrity and give it 110%. You put your body on the line and keep going even when things don’t go your way or you have no energy left. This isn’t on the coach it’s on each and every individual to deliver.

The NRL made Madge's tactic obsolete 3 years ago. He has completely failed to adapt

Sheens could bring it back !
Razzle Dazzle was underrated ..
You score 30
We score 40
A win is a win !

Gotta have the players who can actually razzle and dazzle. It’s not 2005 anymore, we don’t have anything like those attacking players in the squad now. Laurie shows promise, but he can’t do it all on his own.

Fish rots from the head, and the tigers have been rotting for 15 years.

The head has changed several times over those years, so why is it still rotting?

The team can’t play to what Madge wants so I’d let them play what they want ..
Couldn’t be any worse than the last 2 weeks

Quite a sad indictment when you consider just how many regular first graders the Roosters were missing up front. That was practically their reserve grade pack that outplayed us today - what hope have we got?

I can't work out why we never do any plays that go through the hands or put on any backline moves. Our whole attack is give the ball one out and let that player run with it while everyone else stands and watches (looks like watching an u8s game).

Then once in every 50 plays Brooks premeditates an inside ball and passes it despite the man on the inside being covered by two props to receive a hospital pass.

This is so spot on!! What happened to the attack we had against manly ?

When you re-sign, select, support and defend a player like Luke Brooks you tie yourself to his fortunes.

The coach will go down with the ship.

He never should have re-signed him and all this negatively Maguire is copping now is his own stupid fault.

Don’t stop at Brooks. Currently, 2 of our rejects are in the starting 17 for one of the premiership heavyweights (Momo and Huth), while we have bums like Garner and BJ. And yes, even Benji. He’s running around in another top 4 side. “But but his defence sucked”. Well lucky we got rid of him then, cos it’s so much better without him.

And here are the ruffled feathers. Such a stupid thread, yet 2 players over the last 2 years have walked out on him. How terrible that questions might be asked. As usual, playing the man, not the ball. Boring.
