Ashes 2009

Great start Hilfenhaus just bowled Pietersen, now if they can get Strauss and Collingwood should be all over for England
Cmon Aussies !!!!!!!

I want to see the back of these two before I can get to excited lol

Almost happened just then when Collingwood gloved one up just then!

Nathan Hauritz has totally outbowled both Swann and Panesar. Hopefully he can get a few more wickets here. He was close to our best against Pakistan and has carried on the good form.

Pietersen has just lost his off stump very early leaving a Hilfenhaus ball. Things are looking good.

:smiling_imp: Hilfy done KP all ends up…beautiful to watch.

The single worst way to get out IMO. Embarassing!

We only need 4 more wickets now… hopefully we can wrap it up!

Draw. If it wasn't for the weather disrupting most of the play on the 4th day we would have won. I think Test cricket matches should have a 6th day just to make up for time lost, and If there was no time lost it doesn't go to a 6th day.

Can't beleive England Hung on but I don't think they have much to cheer about.

They almost lost by an innings on a track that was suppose to favour them after batting first.

Your right Iron Tiger the weather was the only thing that saved the Poms.

What, like injury time in soccer? I reckon they need to stop messing around with the rules in cricket, especially test cricket. All this talk about day-night tests and 4 day tests and blah blah blah.

Sorry, got a little distracted there. In my view, it is a 5 day test match, not a 450 over test match. If a team isn't good enough to get the other team out twice (for whatever reason), it is a draw.

I can't believe we didnt win that! Devastated! :frowning:

England don't deserve to be level with us in the series after our domination of them, thats where cricket lets itself down imo, there HAS to be a result in that circumstance, itd be like leading 48-0 with 5mins to go in a rugby league game and having the stadium lights go out and calling it a draw!

Heartbroken!!!!

Even more so because Monty and Anderson batted for 69 balls between them!

But, back in 05, we got a draw in the 3rd test despite being outplayed all match and having Lee and McGrath batting. England were good enough to kick on, win the next match and the series, now its our turn to do that, Im worried that with a young bowling attack they may just be a bit flat with the short turn around, it may help if we win the toss and bat first… If its good for batting.

I went to bed when they were 7 down. Very surprised to hear they held on this morning. That last wicket partnership must have been good viewing.

Just on Ponting's captaincy for a moment, why on earth wasn't Johnson bowling more?

You have numbers 10 & 11 at the crease and our deadliest pace weapon who has a record of mopping up tails very quickly bowls next to no overs? Whats doing there Ricky?

Sometimes some of his choices make me wonder… He is awesome with the bat but sometimes I wonder whether he should have the © beside his name, I wouldn't mind seeing Australia hand the reigns to Clarke even before Ricky retires.

They won't though.

Spin seemed to be the order of the day Zaibatsu. Hauritz was bowling well but I would have gone with Johnson too when Panesar came out. 2 left-handed batters with Johnson throwing in something sliding in. In saying that Johnson didn't bowl with too much control at all this match and barely swung it after such a great series in South Africa.

On the result, England were lucky there was not 5 completed days. Lords is next and we haven't lost there for 70 years. I wonder whether changes will occur. Siddle will be much more threatening on the Lords track while Hauritz could be dropped for Clark if the track is green despite the good bowling.

Personally I wouldnt make any changes to the Aussie team, if not for the rain they would be 1-0 up, and with ease.

I can't see Brett Lee forcing his way back in when he is fit either, not unless one of our bowlers really falls away in the next test.

Lee took 5 or 6 wickets in the warm up game and was the only Australian bowler to use reverse swing, I reckon if he's fit they will play him.

Yeah thats true, but honestly who are you going to swap him for?

Sure Lee had a good warm up game, but overall his form in the past couple of years in general has been very poor.

Johnson has carried us in the past 12 months, you can't possibly drop him after one mediocre test, Siddle really ruffled England up and has a lot of fire about him and is bowling as quick as Lee currently anyway.

That only leaves Hilfenhaus and Hauritz, Hilfenhaus had a blinder of a game in the first test, he had England in all-sorts with his swing and he adds variation to our attack and Hauritz out-spun both England's much more highly fancied spinners.

So where does Lee fit in? Personally I could only find a spot for him if one of our bowlers has a total shocker at Lord's.

Agree with all that….

Hussey>>>>>>>>>>>Lee.....simple

Four fast bowlers and a spinner....Our top five batsmen + Haddin will be enough to handle the pop gun Pommy attack...Johnson, Lee can handle the bat as well...

Post McGrath/Warne taking 20 wickets has been an issue with the side....Hit the shell-shocked Poms with everything we got.....No mercy....

I wouldnt mind seeing 5 bowlers as well.

Johnson is good enough to bat at number 7, Lee and Hauritz are very handy and even Siddle can hang around a bit.

But I just cant see them dropping Hussey. It might also depend on what type of pitch they have at Lords, normally it favours the bowlers which means we are probably better off having the extra batsmen, but the last couple of years its flattened out a little bit, and i think with a flatter pitch we're better off having the extra bowler for more variety and to ease the workload on everyone.

Just on the bowlers used at the end, I wouldve given it to either Johnson or Hilfenhaus with Hauritz at the other end. Johnson was ordinary but with his natural delivery angling into the left handers, he wouldve been a candidate for getting the LBW or bowled, plus with pitch playing low, there wouldnt of been much chance of an edge carrying to the slips if say Siddle was on instead. Same reason why Hilfenhaus wouldve been good too because he wouldve been swinging it into the left handers. I can understand Hauritz bowling because he is spinning it towards the slips and he did get both of those batsmen out in the first innings.

I'd say Clark is more suited to Lords but very much doubt he'll get picked. You'd thing its odds on they'll go with the same XI.

True I think so too.

It makes wonder though, why is McDonald in the squad? Its obvious he wont get picked, he's still got Clark and Lee in front of him and as far as the all-rounder spot goes, that will probably go to Watson.

This is pathetic. We're getting tonked. Johnson is getting pounded. Don't know why this is happening considering it's a good bowling deck. I'd say if it were more 'wet' then Hilfenhaus will come into his own.
