Ashes 2009

As someone said before, Pontings wicket was deadset u/10 standard umpiring. The fact that he was asking around to see if Struass caught the ball (when he took it well above the ground) proved that he had absolutely no idea what was going on. Should South African umpires be allowed to umpire a team full of South Africans? I think bringing referrals into the game will only make the umpiring standard worse, like it has in Rugby League.

From what I saw of Ponting's dismissal, either he hit it (which he obviously didn't) and was caught at slip or he missed it and should have been out LBW. Not too much to complain about there.

I dont think ill predict a collapse anymore after last night.

WE WILL PASS THE FOLLOW ON AND SAVE THIS GAME!!!!!

I'm with you…

Big ask to save this match. It would be great if Hauritz, Siddle and Hilfenhaus can score another 70 runs and avoid the follow on. However with an injured Hauritz and a sick Siddle, they may choose to bat knowing Hilfenhaus is the only worry with Johnson losing it.

Australia fought back well at the end of the day, at 196-0 you'd think that England would press on because prior to that Australia were bowling balls outside off, harmless short balls etc. i thought Mitchell Johnson bowled solid without being spectacular, Hauritz bowled accurately without taking any wickets, Hilfenhaus was probably the pick of the bowlers with his great line and length I think he took 3 wickets and Siddle bowled steadily taking a wicket or so…..

p.s is there anyone on this forum who is doing fox sports fantasy ashes?

Yep i do fox sports fantasy ashes, spewin to because i was gonna put strauss in my team too.

These rain delays are very frustrating and its even more frustrating when sbs shift to the tour de france, even more annoyin hearing macgill say france too.

To me its looking like a draw unless theres a batting collapse by us, i just feel if we lose a wicket here there may be a collapse by us.

yeah, i fantasy i took a punt and got alastair cook. But Strauss would have got you heaps of runs

Katich out off a no ball and the dont go upsatairs to look at strauses catch yet did for hauritz, the umpires are having a great game this doctorv clown shouldnt be in A-grade in adelaide and the south african is going down hill every test i see him in

Strauss is deadset dodgey. Throws everyone out to waste time in the 1st test and claiming catches that hit the ground in the 2nd. If an Aussie player was in the position of Strauss, he would have said not sure and ask for the 3rd umpire. Instead Strauss convinced everyone.

Massive ask from here. Ponting will need a massive score. Hussey the confidence player needs to find something while North, Clarke and Haddin will also need big scores.

Yeh ive already made some changes for the next match, they just had to be made!!

Strauss for Clarke (I had Clarke at opener)
Ponting for Bopara
Collingwood for Johnson

12th man: Onions for Harmison

Safe changes, Strauss and Clarke were straight swaps, as well as Harmy and Onions as 12th man. Collingwood is in good form, and the extra points i gained from dropping Johnson allowed me to put Ponting in for an out of form Bopara

If that was Ponting or Clarke that claimed that catch (like the famous Sydney Test match), there would be a massive uproar! Does that mean we should threaten to go home? lol It might be a bit old but it does show how pathetic the Indians reacted on that tour.

Does Mitchell Johnson play in the 3rd test in Edgebaston? He was extremely unreliable in this match and with Lee/Clark on the sidelines, does he get dropped? He has dead-set lost it.

Just started typing a message to say we were starting to build a decent partnership and Hussey is out to a soft dismissal.

Dreadful.

Although looking at the replay, more question marks.

3 out of 4 this morning with huge question marks over them… makes the referal system sound ok i suppose?

If we are to have any chance at all, these 2 need to bat the entire final session.

Im pretty sure they said there are 49 overs to be bowled in the last session (I didnt think that was possible even though they're making up time). So if by some miracle these 2 bat for the whole session, we'll say 170-180 runs, then we're around 170 shy heading into tomorrow.

Its a lot easier said then done though, especially with the unpredictable Haddin there.

Well they managed to do it… now the 209 runs they need are reachable... forecast is for a fine day...

These two need to bat until after lunch time.

It's going to be hard work, but hopefully they can do it.

Get us within 100 and we may be in with a shot.

Australia need 209 to win with 5 wickets in hand…...we can do it as long as Clarke and Haddin make at least 100 more runs....in saying that we still have Johnson, Siddle and Hauritz left who can stay around and hit runs. Strauss is a clown, he should have enforced the follow on......but now Australia are back in with a chance

Looks like it could be a fascinating final day.

I see on [www.cricinfo.com](http://www.cricinfo.com) that the Aussies are only 3.50 to win, England are 1.36 and the draw is 21.00\. England are still very much in the box seat in this game. One or two quick wickets and it could be all over very quickly. If we do manage to get up, it will easily break the record for the biggest 4th innings win.
