Payten is being groomed as the heir apparent IMHO ….. If the results don't come in the first dozen or so rounds in 2014, I expect him to take over from Potter sooner rather than later.

I agree,if Potter has a bad start to the season he's gone.

Mad Parra. friend from my Sydney days reckons Taylor has been sounded out for a return so there is something bubbling around Stuart.

True but I think Payten has better connection with the younger players so they will better develop with him in the coaching staff. Especially after the well publicised communication problems with Potter and the younger playing group we need Payten there.

IMHO Payten may be a bad choice. Not for anything but only because it will create instability, rumor's and speculation.
What the club need's in 2014 is stability more than anything. The season won't have kicked off yet and they will be saying he is about to oust Potter for the top job. Apart from that Payten seem's to have the good's, just another question over the whole coaching the old boy's club he used to play with.

If Payten gets anywhere near the NRL gig while we still have guys he played with on roster it will be back to the old boys club that ran this organisation into the ground

That would be a great idea …Payten is struggling to motivate boys or hasn't anybody noticed...Kidman yes but Payten just another job for the boys !at this stage a very poor selection of assistant coach IMO as there are better options out there.

I thin we need a fresh face with fresh ideas, someone thats been here a long time and learnt a lot under sheens - while it may be good for him personally, as a club I think we need to move right away from that
…and as others have mentioned its not a good idea imo to have siomeone who was once an equal suddenly in a more authoritve role - it can present problems

We'll be in trouble if he is.
He's served a what, 2 yr apprenticeship in the U20 where the average score for the year was something like 26-21\. At least Kidwell has served a longer apprentice in better surroundings than Todd. Don't quote me but I think he has done something like 2-3 yrs as Storms U20 coach as well as 3 yrs under Bellamy.
Don't get me wrong, I think Todd has done well but our next coach if Potter fails has to be someone with more than 2yrs experience in the U20s

Kidwell has been sounded out IMO has a good coaching pedigree if pressure is brought to bear it won,t be from an under 20's coach that has struggled this season! I predict Kidwell will be promoted if Potter fails.

Its not exactly that dire.

Plenty of boys have been moved on, if Payten had to coach Farah/Fulton/Galloway/Lawrence it wouldn't be the end of the world. Certainly not like Nathan Brown trying to coach practically all the Dragons boys he played with.

It comes down to the man, if Payten earns and commands respect, he will get it whether he played with them or not.

Personally in my opinion Todd Payten is the logical and correct choice to be one of the assistant coaches in 2014 and beyond. For no other reason than he has helped mould and worked closely with,what will be a fair chunk of our 1st grade squad for 2014 and into the future. Also while he has been at the helm of the Under 20's they have very rarely failed to make semi final football each year. I think it could be the freshen up the whole joint needs. Bring on "2014" :sign: :supporter:

Maybe Darren Lockyer is looking to earn a few extra quid - could come on board as our halves coach/consultant. He has no future in the media, he is terrible behind the microphone.

I think the opportunity to work with arguably the games two brightest young halves would be appealing

I agree as well. It's like saying you would not respect your mate if he became your boss at work.

Sure footballers tend to have more ego than your average office worker, but if you respect someone and they have intelligent ideas, then you should be able to take their instruction.
