Madge had Wayne Collins with him at Souths five years ago....Souths basically forced him to remove him and bring in someone with tactical nous, Seibold.

Madge then appoints Collins, his mate, to assist with us...despite Souths removing him five years ago for being out of touch.

Unfortunately we've been the victims here because he's so worried about being replaced that he's hired the worst assistant coaches in the world.

He has basically hired yes men who have zero desire to be first grade coaches / completely happy to do whatever he says.

Madge and Siebold was actually a great combo...the fearless leader who gave the big speeches + the very well educated, tactician.

For those who say Siebold has not done well at Newcastle as an assistant...probably hoping he gets the first grade job.

That was the problem...Siebold has always been 'the smartest bloke in the room' with tons of ambition. Madge got burnt.

I know things didn't end well for Seibold at the Broncos but his name is often overlooked. We could do with a tactician.

oh wow. just wow.

literally no words

I'm starting to think Paws is just a troll account to stir the pot to get more discussion on the forum. He can't possibly believe the things he says.

Just to surmise -

1. Sheens is a huge benefit to the club.
2. Having a tactician about HMAS Weststigers is of benefit.
3. We need a new coach.
4. End of season review :+1:
5. Our player roster is better than indicated on the table.

6. We shouldn't sign any outside backs from other teams as it will block the path of Talau, Kepaoa and Rizk :grimacing:

Yes it was

I think it was mentioned that pascoe said that tbe defence and attack coaches will come under the microscope at seasons end.... i do remember seeing it tho..in the ambush thread i think

Yeah that was me, that is only reviewing the role of the assistants and not a review of the club though.

Just hope sheens will be involved in coaching you'd be an idiot not to dedication some time each week for some coaching with him and the boys

Sheens is a very particular Rocks and Diamonds Coach.
Like a few other coaches. Give him the right team he will take them too the finals.

But, Sheens misses a few key things. He doesn't get consistency from players and I think lacks that drive. Yet Sheens if used right is a godsend.

How I would use him:
Sheen's is best from the playbook and mentoring young players. He is one of the most innovative coaches and comes up with stuff that no one else does. So:
Have Sheens drop 1 play per week, "instead of passing to the winger here, do this.." whatever that crazy play is train a little for it, it will give you a try.

Good Mentor, Good sounding board, good playbook. But not someone who I would give the keys too the kingdom and let them do everything they want. (Wayne Bennett, Bellamy, maybe. Not Sheens).

Gardiner and Kimmorley...if Madge actually allowed them to have input and took on board their ideas...would be great.
That is such a weird name to bring up. Ok Ben Gardiner, no comment (I don't know enough).
Brett Kimmorley though, I think he needed something more or some kind of different guidance.
As a player I hated him at the sharks, he seemed a one throw wonder. Later on at the dogs I actually got to like him.

I think of his time as Coach here though,
he had Moses, he had Brooks.
He had arguably the 2x most hottest talents in League at the time under him.
and he was more interested in TV.

If you rewrite history Brett replaces Sheens as our coach when the players erupt. (or maybe stays as Potter's assistant, working with the best young halves combination in the Comp!)

Maybe he thought he wouldn't get a say. Whatever, he had no buyin no commitment to our club and this place.
I think the Sharks and Bulldogs burned him. Don't regret him doing TV, I just wish he could have either committed or got out of here sooner.

He stepped away when his wife got cancer.
She passed away soon after.

Pretty understandable decision.

It was 2015. Brooks and Moses were in first grade.
He had Liddle, Marshall King, Tatola, JJ Felise, Lio Liovave, Waterhouse x4 Seve, Milone off the top of my head.
The 20s were very good that year

bump..

Seems the result of the review is we need better assistant coaches.. so rather than a poll I thought I'd compile the top 8 sides assistant coaches to see what it's all cracked up to be..

Melbourne Storm - Stephen Kearney - Marc Brentnall
Penrith - Andrew Webster - Cameron Ciraldo
South Sydney - Dimetriou - from 22 John Morris - Ben Hornby
Rorters - Craig Fitzgibbon - ??? Jason Ryles reportedly from 22
Manly - John Cartwright - Micheal Monaghan
Parra - David Kidwell - Steve Murphy
Newcastle - Willie Peters - Eric Smith - Rory Kostjasyn, Consultant - Seibold
Titans - Jim Dymock - Jim Lenihan

Interestingly Wests Tigers have had a couple of these guys in the past..

So I guess the question is ..Who should be bought in... how do you judge if they are good or not...?

Not sure if Robbie would be interested, but he would make a good forwards coach, would probably help solve the defensive flaws that tend to drag us down as well?

With the probable exceptions of Fitzgibbon and Ciraldo, there isnt much there that you would consider for a Head Coach role, but there is a stack of experience int hat list, both playing and assistant coaching.

I'd be trying to get Bennett as assistant with an eye on moving into the head role after the next review

But this is about assistant coaches… I’m still wondering who would be good..

So far Farah and Pay have been suggested..noting no one on the lists have played under V’Landy’s ball if the modern game is a criteria..

I noticed Neil Henry hasn’t been a part of any club this year being only part of the Queensland camp as assistant to Paul Green.

With the changes to the Queensland coaching staff to come would a Canberra reunion of Henry, Maguire and Sheens be something to consider?
