Apparently Madge snubbed Flanagan, probably scared he would take his job.

I doubt That Madge is type of guy to worry about things like that. But I know he rewards loyalty, good performance and hard work.

To be fair Flanagan didn’t look like he did much good at dragons. Would’ve taken him but not sure it had anything to do with his job, how often do assistants take over permanently from the head coach at the same club? 90% of the time the assistants get head coaching gigs at other clubs.

I think Dean Pay would be a good assistant for our defence.

Indeed he would.

Re our attack, a lot of it was off the cuff Benji stuff (second in the NRL for assists) rather than any structured plays.

Ideal set up would be:

Madge - Head coach / sets the culture / sets the work ethic
Attacking coach: Young with fresh ideas / a legit tactician. Ideally a recently (past 5-10 years)retired half who was noted for their IQ.
Defensive coach : someone like Pay...a proven D warrior as a player...did very well as an assistant in Canberra...even his horrible Dogs teams often put in a decent D effort despite the odds.

Michael hagan would be my choice as an attack coach

I also think we need a bench coach

Decoy coach

Spiral pass & Repeat set coach

Hapoy is our bomb coach

Brooks need to learn how to kick them into trees

Isn’t that just a halves coach ?

NFL style. 1 coach for every discipline...

Scrum coach, catching coach, passing coach, bomb coach, chip coach, grubber coach etc...

As a fan for 21 years...no repeat sets from our halfs?

Most of these blokes have been playing Rugbeh League since they were 6 y.o.

They should have the fundamentals by now..

It's mental with this mob..maybe a shrink or a footy whisperer would be a better investment..

Or a Coaches Coach or sumfin..

Maybe a coach whisperer, I hear Walters used one for origin last year.

Let’s give up on learning cause they’ve been playing so long. I’m sure they’d have no need to get some private coaching off a world class halfback, they did play so well this year after all!

Sounds like the old you get a coach, you get a coach and you get a coach but in all seriousness we could appoint JC himself and people would whinge get a grip guys at least wait till we get a few games into 2021

Have you actually listened to Brooks being interviewed ?
He might have been good at colouring in as a kid but that’s about it ...
Halves coach ?

I don't think he is that good of a coach, eventually there will be one of his true followerers that will turn on him.

I am sure Madge is smart enough to know that ultimately his choice of assistants will play a big part in his success or failure, so let's allow him to choose the staff that he wants!
Furthermore, if WTs are at all fair dinkum about developing a "culture" at our club then not choosing Flanagan had to happen.
