Yeah it’s kind of a myth that they don’t let good players go. No club can hold onto everyone.

Put into perspective he has the Morris twins, Teddy, Manu, Tupou, Ikuvalu all in front of him. Add that they also have Billy Smith who has massive wraps on him - all will run around with them next year at least.

Time will tell. He is talented and we could be a good pickup. Not as though he is middle aged with a few years of reggies....

I like this signing , we aren’t paying overs for washed up players to fill our roster like we did before. Our biggest challenge now is going to be keeping the ones that turn out good because they will have big dollars chucked at them when they get out of contract.

Exactly. Instead filling out roster with guys at the end of their career we’re filling it with young guys right at the start of their careers. Not all of them will turn into good players but there’s a good chance we find a few gems (we already have) and it keeps our team strong for the next couple years

I can't see it ay. Reynolds would be good in NZ imo but otherwise he's going to be expensive depth for one more year.

Mbye needs to be dropped though or at least Maguire needs to get a way for the bloke to fire up permanently when he's on the field, because we don't get his best nearly enough.

I don’t think he plays that bad at centre, while he doesn’t stand out he normally does a solid job and has the most try assists in the league for an outside backs.

Problem is he’s on ridiculous money. He’s only worth probably half of what he’s on now maybe less.

With only one year left on Reynolds and packers contract they’ll probably just be held on to. Hopefully we sign a young half as a development player for next year

I think the issue with Mbye is the salary vs return. He's not an inherently bad player and frankly he's playing out of position.

$950k buys you a top line centre with change for another player, so it's hard to justify so much cap money to him.

Salary aside, Mbye is actually a pretty good ball player, and we've seen him sum up attacking situations and give a clean pass for his outside man to score. I think he's more suited to the halves and I think he has a place in our team, but on a significantly reduced contract. At half his current salary, he's probably a keeper given his versatility and the halves shortage in the NRL. Anything more and we get better value elsewhere.

I completely agree. He is not a bad player like a lot of people say but for his money he’s a huge waste.

Penrith are the youngest team in the competition and are killing it. Like you said it’s about having leaders, and a lot of the guys Madge have signed seem to fit that bill. Luciano, Doueihi, Blore all have great leadership qualities. We’ve got Aloiai, packer and Twal leading the way in the forwards. Benji most likely playing another year, Mbye and Reynolds have big match experience too

Signing players from good systems who can’t get a crack because there’s a rep player in front of them has worked for us, not sure why people are saying he’s a bad signing.

Matterson (ok he’s a dog but very good player), LL, Grant, Blore, Aloiai and Twal have all been discards and been pretty good for us

Learning your trade as a young kid from blokes like Teddy, Morris twins, Tupou etc would be a dream come true
