Asu Kepaoa #236

Conversely, three of our off-season rejects, in two players and an assistant coach, have been picked up by Penrith, so we'll get to see how we fare on those choices.

Cleary Snr really has an eye for talent....surely he needs a ~~good~~ ~~great~~ brilliant decoy runner as well?

To be honest i'm more glass is less than half fill at the moment, and i ordered a beer and got water instead. Tamou is a good step forward, think there is 2 years good footy in him, the kid from Parra has about 16 minutes of first grade so question mark there, and Roberts? i truely hope he can get his demons undercontrol as he should be the best centre in the game. Laurie is for next, next year.
The club is trying its best to turn it around but these changes don't make me think top 8. And that means scrapping into the 8 as well

Makes you wonder, who is really in control of recruitment?
Cleary showed the same poor judgement here under Pascoe’s watch.
I don’t know why the NRL hasn’t moved with a little more haste to stop agents from having coaches as clients?

Did you feel that when they were here , that keeping them was a good idea ? Because the disdain we all had for Jennings , and Webster was our defence coach , and eisenhuth did the , “its a contract year” , it hardly screams “geez we are going to regret this “. Jennings in particular , turned up unfit , was being paid a good wicket , and played like a park footballer . That game early this year where he basically lost us the game with his play , made me really dislike him as a footballer. Because reliable , was his big thing .
So far , it’s madges 1 blemish here with recruiting . How was he to know Jennings had lost a yard of pace at 22 years old .

If Liddell steps up and doesn't get injured, Roberts regains form, I do think we can really be competitive for 8th next year. Otherwise similar to this year results.

To quote myself and the only thing I stated "so we’ll get to see how we fare on those choices", nothing more, nothing less. I didn’t hold disdain for Jennings, nor Eisenhuth who I thought did his job throughout his tenure and Webster was assigned roles by the head coach under his supervision.

Is Madden the answer if Brooks needs to be dropped?

I only saw him play once last year (trial match v panthers), he still looked pretty promising!

In relation to original post, I feel like this time now is exactly the same as it was last year. We're in a similar position, with a fresh set of square pegs that we'll try fit into round holes.

Last year we got doueihi and 2 X leiluas, lots of chat about potential, but doueihi ended up having a patchy year, Joey had probably about 20 or 30 good minutes across the season (when he wasn't proclaiming to be best centre in the comp and demanding to be paid during covid) and Luciano, luckily was great.

Fast forward to now and we've got a similar sotch with James Roberts, a great player on his day but with a couple of demons, Tamou, who won't be a game breaker but will add experience to the forward pack and potentially Joe O who had a shocker last year but who we *hope* will come good (if we sign him)

I'm not saying half full or half empty yet, nothing's decided till we see them on the field. But I remember the feeling when watching Joey in R2 v the knights this year, thinking this just isn't going to work out...

Hope Madge can work some magic but itll be a tricky one trying to get this team operating like a legitimate unit

In adding Roberts, Stefano, Tamou and potentially Joe O and Sironen, its a vast improvement and adds depth. provides us with more hope for 2021 and the added bonus of getting rid of flogs Reynolds and Packer to continue the buying spree into 2022. Will be interesting to see what the make up of the team looks like in 12 months with 13 players off contract end of next season.

13 players off contract and plenty of coin to spend!

Love Hodgo, just not sure he's a great coach.

Good move for him, wish him nothing but the best!

Neither do I. I love the guy, but all the depth the Magpies had in 2018 and I don’t even think we made the 8. Nevertheless congrats to him.

Pity Benji has stuck his finger up at us, maybe could’ve been the man?

I am thinking now, maybe Farah? Club legend, SoO and Australian player.
