Auckland 9's line up

Disappointed Simona wont be there. Koroibete will be a shoe in for sure.

Does anyone know if there is a set team structure - ie teams must have x number of forwards, backs etc?

I doubt there will be a formal structure, but there will still be a need to go down the middle being Nine a side.

I'd suggest there will be Props with good leg speed, Backrowers playing as Centres, plus 1-2 creative style players like Mitchell Moses balanced with the speed men.

Yea this is crucial before we can start putting in players properly for proposed sides.

I think Koro, Brooks and BMM are shoe ins. Also wouldn't mind Taupau off the bench, he's a fast forward. Teddy will probably make it too.

In a concept like this a player like Siro becomes invaluable, hard to bring down, drags 2 or 3 in a tackle, has ball playing ability, hits hard in defence, and can stop players in one on one tackles.

Here's some info on the general game, but the NRL will tweak it obviously.

"maximum 3 in the front row and 2 in the second row."

If the same is kept for Aukland that would see:

1\. Fullback
2\. Centre
3\. Wing
4.Half
5.Prop
6.Hooker
7\. Prop
8\. Back Row
9\. Back Row
4 Bench players
Although, it does say 'maximum' so they might reduce it to 1 back rower. My lineup for 2014 would be:

Tedesco, Lawrence (if reasonably recovered) else Nofo, Koro, Brooks/Moses, Woods, Farah, BMM, Siro, Sue. Bench: Fults, Austin, Blair, Big T.

Then you'd put in Buchanan, Nofo, Lovett, Ava, Brown throughout the tournament to keep this lineup fresh.

whos to say which player is a prop, etc? if you wanted a team full of nofos, koros, simonas, etc whats stopping you? i dont understand this…

Nothing's stopping you, but you need to make metres up the middle. 9's isn't as expansive as you might think, got 2 more people than NRL 7s of union 7s so you will need to have some pigs. Your backs can't run it for 18minutes straight.

But replacing a backrower or prop with a Big T would probably be very effective i'd say. 4 forwards (plus a hooker) might be 1 or 2 too many, so you could be onto something.

It's actually disappointing that benji isn't around for this. As this is the perfect game for him.

when does it start? im actually pretty excited about it, as last season wasnt really all that satisfying!!

i dont remember much of seeing 9s, if ever? but obv need to see some to get an idea of what i think would be a good team make up, etc. i know i can stand all of 6 minutes of the rugby 7s… the one man rucks do my head in and it just looks a lot like touch to me.

9 sounds a much better number of players: wont just be all swing the ball wide with massive passes, score ad nauseam.

Feb 15, yeah i'm pretty keen for it. Grow NRL in NZ and hopefully it is telecast elsewhere in the world to help grow the sport there too.

9's is defeinitely a better number than 7\. Will allow for good 1 on 1 tackles to be made and not just a try fest.

Be mindful that these players will need to be extremely fit to play these games. There will be a lot more gaps in the field with more space to run. So players will be running further to catch the attacking team. You need the fastest, strongest and most importantly fittest guys in the team. Remember this tournament will be played over just a few days (hopefully no injuries come out of this)

I'd be looking at these players in no particular order to choose from. Fast backs with big, fast skillful forwards.

1\. Tedesco
2\. Fulton
3\. Siro
4\. Sue
5\. Brooks
6\. Moses
7\. Moltzen
8\. Sironen
9\. Farah
10\. Koroibete
11\. Naiyaravaro
12\. Nofoaluma
13\. Taupau
14\. Woods
15\. Gavet
16\. Murdoch-Masila
17\. Paterson
18\. Blair
