Auckland 9's line up

Kind of off topic but I wonder how the nrl will feel if the sharks win the 9s comp…

I get the feeling the nrl wants the sharks to be in a financial crisis following the Asada drama so that they have an excuse to relocate them (I love a conspiracy theory). If they were to win that $2.5m prize money or whatever it is, they would be in much better position to pay off any outstanding legal fees

it's 0.5million stevo. Nothing big, it'd be nice for us to have to upgrade facilities and the like. Wouldn't do much for our 9 million dollar debt but I suspect Harry is taking care of that, mostly.
 
Is that all? Where did I pull $2.5m from? Maybe that's the amount each team gets to pay the players

From what I heard,
16 teams will be competing for a share of $2-2.5m prize money with the winner pocketing almost $500,000

Id like to see the 9's tourny dangled as a carrot for the best performed youngsters in the off season with maybe a couple experienced players included to recapture some form or return from injury (Moltzen and Lawrence)
In terms of who'd be best equipped, the likes of Noffas, Simona's and Korobete would all be well suited and throw in your mobile back rowers like BMM and Sirro, a worker like FUlton would probably be handy…

I know it is not quite the same,but Rugby 7's has just got all very serious and scientific given the world cup circuit and inclusion in the Olympics, previously they used to include back rowers as the "props" in 7's, that has stopped, they pick only backs with hard running centres playing the prop role.
 
Mobile forwards with a good offload will be priceless - so Patterson definitely get a run in my team. I wouldn't run with Farah - I don't think he needs the extra work, frankly. Big fast backs of course, and for once we have plenty (although it's a shame Simona won't be available, but I'd definitely be playing Lawrence.

Looking at Tapau's highlight tape when he ran down a winger in the school boys international would suggest he would be a really good candidate for 9's?

I think Jy hitchcox would be a revelation at this form of the game.He has great pace and backs up superb.Win this also and watch the memberships pile in.
 
Is this comp even going to be televised?

I remember the old world sevens were only on the radio… First time I heard about Ben Marshall!

The finals were always on tv.Remember when we watched Patty Richards and the Wests Tigers beat Parra in the final in 2004.Also this time round it will definitelty be on tv as the tv networks have finally cottoned on as to how much rugby league rates on networks.

Wouldn't argue with his inclusion, but not sure his stamina would be good enough so early in the season.

It would probably be unlimited interchange though wouldn't it? Or clubs would be allowed 30 or so interchanges IMO because it is so early on in the year. At least the heat wouldn't be a factor over in Auckland.
