what are everyones thoughts on asyhford? where and how would you play him?
obviously when sirro is back ayshford wont be at five eight, so i expect sheens will just plonk him back to the bench - but i dont think its the right choice.
the theory of ayshford as an impact backrower from the bench sort of makes sense, but from what i've seen from the games he has started there previously, he lacks involvement and often turns up pretty average performances. his best games have been when he is involved from the get go - like today against the roosters. he provided an attacking threat for us with the ball in hand closer to the middle, also knew when to pass it and when to hold it.
if we are going to develop him, we must do what we did with groat and start him in the backrow. how is he meant to have impact in a position he hasnt started regularly in before?
the other two spots i would give to ellis and bell.
fulton is a better player than bell and ayshford, but what he offers is unique. he doesnt need to be beaten up in the opening of the match. he is the sort of guy we need in good condition come the 76th minute mark - in attack and defense. strategically i think we are better off bring him from the bench.
then we have blair who hasnt seem to have gelled as quick as we would have liked, shifting him to the bench might be a good trigger for him to start picking up his game a bit more.
heighington unfortunately just isnt offering enough impact at the moment to warrant a starting spot. bell has been much more effective in the go forward.
id then have murdoch masilla as the rotating prop. fulton and ayshford are both diverse in that they can shift to the backs if need be and fulton to lock.
