Not his best game today, Colin Best looked a class above.

His worst game I have ever seen. But I'm not worried. He'll bounce back - like the rest of the team.

He had a shocker. It happens. He is a classy player who will bounce back as quickly as next week.

He was outplayed, and I think Lawry was as well. They will look at their efforts and improve them this week. They have to….. they are playing two very strong centers next up.

Ayshford prob played his worst game I can remember… a couple important mistakes and going for the intercept on the line a big error.

Even his normal defence was a bit off.

On the upside he did hold the ball up nicely on Beau's try and we won, everyone has bad games and we got away with the win on this one, good result

Lawrence looked a little slow and behind the pace which was unusual. His usual strong runs didnt have much venom in it. Maybe the long grass had somthing to do with it.

Ayshford was just outplayed…Best and Carney beat him more time than I can remember, including their 2nd try, and would of been another had Benji not battered the ball dead to get the drop out. 3-4 Drops of the footy...Just one of those days I guess.

Agreeded both centres today were well off their best, in both attack and defence but iam sure they will bounce back.

Still made some of his great tackles that he usually made, however that half-hearted intercept attempt looked bad.

Lawrence made one massive crunch tackle, but beyond that lacked any penetration. He got zero decent ball, and when he went across the touchline ball in hand he looked frustrated. He was very easily contained. I'd like to see him open up a bit more, seems to not get the space he used to get a couple of years ago.

I think the surface today must have been a real slog to get through and the heat and humidity took its toll too. Players from both sides were exhausted and lots were cramping. The usual dash was not there from our boys and it seemed a slog to make ground all day. Same in the Toyota Cup. I hope there are good recovery means in place to get the boys up for Manly on Fri night.

I agree with you all. One of the first things I noticed was that Pomeroy and Best were outplaying our boys, even from early on.

Both Aysh and Lawrence are class players and we have no reason to worry. They've both been great for a long time and are allowed an 'off week' now and then. It probably had a lot to do with our overall formations and shape. Benji said in the post match interview that they didnt play the way they practiced and he was unhappy with the team's performance.

Blake played poorly but how long has it been since we heard that, strong last few years

He looked as though he felt the heat really badly , I only stood on the hill and the grass was a bog and long and this was before mentioning the weather which was extremely hot.

We looked really good in the first 20 minutes then it looked as though the heat got us. The same in the first half of the 20's.

We Won a game that looked gone and that would have been lost in previous seasons. Match fitness is a key and let judge them in rounds 4 or 5 when they have some match fitness and timing.

Benji got the man of the match but also dropped a few balls so lets get behind them

It's been well documented at how much he has bulked up over the off season. I'm just wondering of this has impacted his ability to play in the centers as he looked a mile off the pace today and a bit sluggish. Due to the conditions and it being round 1 I'm sure we can give it the benefit of the doubt. But if this continues I'd be looking at shifting Aysh to the forwards and handing Reddy the 3 jumper.

Agree with all posts really.

Is there any chance he may have picked up a knock but played on with it? I watched him on a couple of kick chases and he looked hobbled to me.

Ayshford is class. It's become a tradition for him to start the season poorly iirc. He grows into a season generally. He and Lawrence also have a tendency to play to the level of their opposite numbers. Aysh and Lawry's best games are always against class opponents. I've never really seen either of them dominate weak centres as far as I can remember. Also Best is very underrated and massively experienced.

Both our centres had off games today, i think we're still building combinations and things will improve, possibly partly due to our structural change post Lui. Hopefully Moltzen comes good and Blair strikes up some combinations with Ayshford and things will improve dramatically throughout the season.

Ayshford and Lawrence were both off the pace today which was a shame. Defensively Blake had a tough day at the office, Lawrence less so, but he looked quite sluggish in attack and at this stage I would question his fitness levels. It's only round 1 though, and both boys will be better for the run. Look for them to lift against the silvertails on Friday night.
