Any cost saving in fielding only one State Cup team will only benefit the respective Leagues Club.

Absolutely correct. Both leagues clubs have probably come to the following decision:

1\. Support Wests Tigers only or;
2\. Support Wests Tigers and a State Cup team

Can't see how option two is sustainable.

Extract from wests magpies forum for all interested parties:

Yesterday I had a very interesting chat with Brett Clarke, Wests Tigers Marketing and Sales Manager, and discussed several topics of concern to Wests Tigers and Wests Magpies supporters.

1\. The perception that there is a “bias” towards Balmain in the joint venture. They are aware of this, but there is certainly no bias on their part.

2\. The magpie on the sleeve was put at the bottom of the sleeve because of the design of the Trend Micro logo, which fits better at the top of the sleeve. And they put in megabucks to the club. They are considering options to reposition the logo on next year’s jersey. I suggested on the upper chest, next to the collar.

3\. The contentious NSW Cup issue, which is not really his area, but he believes it is a because of finances. I said if it happened, the jersey shouldn’t alternate between Wests and Balmain, because if they made the finals the problem of what jersey to wear would raise its ugly head. Again. And I said we strongly believe the junior reps should stay as Wests and Balmain.

4\. For next year’s Heritage Round, Wests Tigers will play Souths to commemorate the 1952 Grand Final. Wests Tigers will wear the 1952 Wests jersey with the thick and thin hoops, and the words “1952 Premiers” on the back. They have already been in discussion with Channel 9 to request a Sunday afternoon game, to be played at the SCG.

5\. I said a lot of posts on official and unofficial forums are unsubstantiated rumours, and Brett said it was because of misinformation, but I said it was more LACK of information, that Wests Tigers need to deliver information to the Wests Tigers, Wests Magpies and Balmain Tigers websites more frequently. He agreed.

Dont know if this has anything to do with this but I have it on good authority that Ryde Eastwood will have a Bundy Cup side in 2013\. May affect Balmains ability to fund a NSW cup side

I would have thought that if Wests Magpies and Balmain Tigers merge at NSW Cup level for next year then Wests Magpies and Balmain Tigers would both have sides in the Bundy Cup next year. We should know soon anyway.

what is stopping wests tigers from having their own nsw cup team anyway? even if wests magpies have a team in nsw cup wests tigers could have a team in the nsw cup too. when all of the wt squad players went to balmain in 2007 (when not playing in 1st grade) why didnt they just make that team called 'wests tigers'?

This is the best outcome IMO. Wests and Balmain can have their own Bundy Cup teams, but should amalgamate the teams at State Cup level in order to provide a clear pathway for the illegible NYC graduates.

We all know what will happen there. Any promising players to come through the Magpies ranks will probably be "poached" by WT, in turn savaging the Magpies roster. And imagine the furore that will create…

yeah well thats happening now anyway with them going to balmain ryde eastwood

Wests magpies have the Funding and structure and junior base to field a NSW cup team in 2012 and be a direct feeder side to WT. Due to various factors (money mainly and little club infrastructure on its own) , balmain cannot field a NSW cup team on its own. In the survival of the fittest wests magpies seems like the wiser choice and balmain needs to face the outcome of its own structure and resources.

I wish someone would just come out in an official capacity and tell us all what's going on!

I'm hearing that the Magpies are completely broke, havent paid people from this season just completed and will not have a NSW Cup side next season. The Junior Reps will play and train out of Campbelltown somewhere and will no longer known as the Western Suburbs Magpies.

Disturbing news, if true…..Can someone confirm or deny this please.....I'm getting sick of conflicting stories.

Wests Campbelltown and Wests Ashfield make big profits every year, so if Wests Magpies are broke then it's Wests' leagues clubs who obviously don't care anymore.

swoop, maybe there will just be wests tigers sg ball and harold matts instead of wests magpies or balmain. maybe they would be based at campbelltown

Would have thought Concord would be a more logical choice being the Wests Tigers establishment.. anyway it appears to be confirmed that there will be separate Matts and Ball teams next year.

well it might be a bit busy at camp concord for sg ball and harold matts to train there if first grade, nsw cup and the under 20s train there during the week

Wests Leagues might also feel that one club is the way to go. They won't have to foot the bill for the team anymore and still will be associated with any achieved accolades.

Leagues clubs are really starting to take a step away from football clubs, especially with their revenue under fire by proposed pokies changes.

The future of a magpies nsw cup team relies on wests ashfield support. Harold matts and sg ball will def be going ahead as wests and balmain. Wests campbelltown sadly has 'nothing to do' with wests magpies nsw cup side. WT still want wests ashfield leagues club support for a nsw cup side but want it it called WT. Balmain (now no longer bret) relies on a shrinking grant from smaller revenues from temp clubs at five dock and flemington and cannot field a nsw cup team on its own in 2012

Strange that Wests Campbelltown don't support the Magpies State Cup team yet last I heard they support the junior reps and donate towards Wests Tigers.

Yes bug, ryde eastwood hawks moving to bundaberg red cup in 2012 on their own. Cunno - tiff between ashfield and campbelltown goes back to 90's. The situation didnt and still doesnt help wests magpies overall. Wests ashfield gave birth to wests campbelltown.
