Balmain hijack Wests Tigers Gala Ball night

The Wests Tigers Gala Ball night will be held at the Sydney Hilton Hotel on the 30th of June.

This is a great night, and if you have not been I recommend you put some pennies aside and get yourself a ticket.

As reported on here on another thread, the Balmain Tigers will have their Hall of Fame induction that night at the Ball.

I cant say this sits very well with me or many others. Why dont Balmain organise their own function for the induction of their players?

Magpies organise all their own functions.

Are Balmain so broke that they can no longer organise their own functions?? They rely on Wests Tigers paid players to be placed in the Balmain-Ryde Eastwood team. Former Balmain players walked around the Olympic Stadium with the Wests Tigers 2005 premiership winning side when they did the lap of honour with the NRL trophy.

What is it with Balmain and not being able to accept that they only own 50% of Wests Tigers ??

Dudes, raise your own money and hold your own induction night. Or better still just fold. Dont hijack Wests Tigers functions and occaisions and make them out to be 'Balmain' events. The Magpies dont, Balmain shouldn't either.
 
not to get into another Wests vs Balmain arguement but to this day it still gets under my skin seeing Elias,Sironan and Jack sticking themselves in the spotlight GF night in 05 and trying to be glory hogs,and trying to make it all about them and Balmain.Saying how it made up for what happened in 89.*NEWSFLASH* what happened in 89 had zero to do with 05
 
As per usual you just couldn't help yourself could you bug?

It's Balmain's perogative and their right to do so. And obviously the Wests Tigers don't have an issue with it so good luck to them.
 
I don't see the big deal. Aren't the Wests Tigers a joint venture between two clubs - Wests and Balmain. Why not have the induction for Balmain players during the Wests Tigers ball.

Wouldn't it be worse if the induction was held separately. I think that this is another one that should be done and dusted. Move on people.
 
Tiger05 would you be happy if Wests Magpies did the same? Wests Magpies do their own functions, pay for their own rooms, food, alcohol, bust a gut to flog their own tickets, yet Balmain once again, piggy back on a Wests Tigers function.

Why is it their perogative to do so? Wests Tigers is a joint venture business. It is not the Wests Magpies and it is not the Balmain Tigers. It is a different business all together.
 
I think it is a good idea as it shows Balmains support for the JV and the fact they are part of it.To be honest i am very surprised that Wests Magpies dont do the same thing.

The issue is equity, fairness and image.

Balmain do everything they can to piggyback on Wests Tigers Functions and events by clinging on to things like this. Balmain do everything they can to have people only refer to Wests Tigers as the 'Tigers' and make out that Wests Tigers are primarily 'Balmain' by pushing the extinct Balmain name at every Wests Tigers event and function possible.

Wests Magpies dont do it because they have decency and they do not think its right.

For goodness sakes Balmain no longer even has a Mens open age side. They are only represented in the junior comps.

The issue is image and the perception of the public. The more and more that this happens, the more the general public will think that Balmain are the Wests Tigers and the Wests Magpies involvment in the joint venture is minimal or non existant.

The equity in public image is just not there.
 
The fact of the matter is, that Balmain has been having a Tigers Ball for a few years now and Wests Tigers agreed to join the event to make it even bigger. Some of you people need to get your facts straight before you pound the keyboard and type dribble.

Got nothing to do with mergers dissecting or anything else your narrow minds can muster, just purely a function celebrating the Tiger spirit. I for one have put my money where my mouth is bought a table for the night any of you whingers prepared to do the same? I doubt it you would rather whinge and carry on like you know everything and try to find rubbish that dont exist in the first instance, these topics only show how people like bug as passionate as they are as supporters when it comes to the crunch know very little about the club they support, and impotantly if we were all the same their would be no merger and that would be a shame. Grow up bug and move on before you get squashed.
 
I would assume the Wests Tigers board has approved this presentation.

However, this is the inaugural Wests Tigers gala ball. Why not have a clean slate and focus purely on the Wests Tigers? This would have been a good opportunity to cut ties with the past, focus on the Wests Tigers brand & future and start building the Wests Tigers history.

Its called the 'Wests Tigers Ball'. Although you would not know it. Wests have a Black and White ball, they dont incoporate or piggy back.
 
Hi everyone

Not sure the title of this thread is truly accurate.

Balmain has hosted a Hall of Fame Dinner for the past 5 or 6 years - I've never missed one - the highlight of my social calendar along with the Grand Final Lunch. Maybe Wests Tigers are piggybacking on its success!!

I'll be there - hope to meet other forummers there.

I already had this time of year earmarked for the Balmain Hall of Fame dinner.

It has been an excellent event held every year by the Balmain club and was always a good opportunity to meet up with old players and the majority of the NRL squad would be there.

It is an interesting move that WT have moved to take the event over.

Maybe the Wests Tigers hall of fame will be begun very shortly. I would love to see an evening where the three hall of fame inductions are held in the one place on the one night.

Lets face it there are not too many more years of admitting players to the Balmain and Wests halls as neither club exist anymore
 
Dont look like Bug is going rather whinge about everything every opportunity he can but not prepared to aim up when needed, should look at changing your name to Chuck Norris cause you definitely go missing in action.

Yes I would be. I am pro the joint venture and any chance to save a buck should be utilised.

Great Post Smeg !!

This is exactly what they should do !! 100% equity and fairness. They would pack a big room out. It would be a great night and it would not be leaning to any side of the JV. It would be the biggest night in Sydney Rugby League.
 
Is it really that big a deal???
For the few minutes it will take and most of the people involved likely to be there anyway, Are the preceedings really distressing you that much?
I would suggest, That if the Magpies don't want to incorporate any functions with the Wests Tigers it is simply because of thier struggle on ALL Levels to maintain a seperate (Stronger) entity.
All this Balmain / Magpies Hoo Haa, Really is resembling a rocking chair, It gives the old Maggies something to do… But doesn't get them anywhere.
The belief is that Wests are supplying ALL the Money and ALL The Players, So why not supply ALL your own functions as well??
