Go The Mighty Tigers!! :righton:

Great achievement by Balmain to make it to the GF, very well done to them and their coach. Hope their hard work pays off with a premiership.

They'll be up for the task for sure this time. Their last outing against the Raiders they got absolutely belted where they just seemed to lack concentration coming off their minor premiership + undefeated season.

a couple of things someone might be able give info about ..is the 9 a relation to anthony cherington, is matthew woods aarons younger brother and i have read a bit about mitchell moses that he shows plenty of potential.

good luck boys

This is a great effort from Balmain and I think Andrew Webster has a good future in coaching.

Can anyone list all of their junior clubs?

Balmain had't played Canberra in the round games, they were on the other side of the draw, get square guys, you've now seen there game….. Now get into them, gl guys, will do my best to get there.....

Never disregard the importance of these competitions. The last time one of our foundation clubs won the SG Ball, we won a NRL premiership 3 years later.

Most of the older age groups run a joint comp with other districts don't they Flash?

NSWRL Inner City Combined Competitions

From pretty much U/13s nowadays, Balmain Souths/Easts Canterbury Saints combined….though some grades will have variations or not all districts repped

Thanks Ink. Thought as much. Probably a bit different moving between districts playing in the same comp.

Can't wait for the day that Balmain can have their own A Grade comp again, wouldn't that give the joint venture some depth.
Good luck to all the young men this weekend and I hope that many of them can be retained in the system.

ROBBIE FARAH SHOWS SUPPORT FOR TIGERS SG BALL SIDE
By Wayne Cousins
2/05/2012 11:14:30 AM

Robbie Farah has a simple message for the Balmain SG Ball side – enjoy the moment and make the most of their opportunities.

Balmain play Canberra in the NSWRL SG Ball Cup Grand Final at St Marys Stadium on Saturday, MAY 5, at 3pm, in what is shaping up to be a classic match between two very talented sides.

The Tigers went through the regular season undefeated minor premiers with their only loss coming to the fourth placed Raiders in the first week of the finals.

Farah was the Balmain SG Ball hooker in 2002\. In wishing the Andrew Webster coached Balmain the very best of luck for the season decider, Farah said the young Tigers players should give their all.

“These players are now at the stage of their footy career where opportunities start to come up,’’ Farah said.

“I remember going from SG Ball into the Wests Tigers Cubs program that year. Less than 12 months later, Liam and I found ourselves playing first grade.

“Playing NRL is not too far away as a lot of kids are now making their first grade debut at 18 or 19\. The opportunities are there for the players to really make something of themselves and push for further honours in their career.”

SG BALL GRAND FINAL PREVIEW: BALMAIN V CANBERRA
NSWRL MEDIA
3/05/2012 4:37:30 PM

NSWRL preview the SG Ball Grand Final between Balmain Tigers and Canberra Raiders at St Marys Stadium on Saturday, May 5.

Match preview
The Canberra Raiders will have the mental edge heading into the 2012 SG Ball Cup Grand Final having beaten the Tigers 40-8 in the elimination finals a few weeks ago

Both sides had to fight hard for their place in the Grand Final last weekend with the Raiders clawing back a 26-4 halftime deficit to record an astonishing 33-32 golden point victory over the Sydney Roosters, while the Tigers held off a fast finishing South Sydney side to win 34-26.

There is so much to like about this game. Some of the matchups between key players will not only decide who lifts the trophy but could also decide who pulls on a NSW jersey come State of Origin Game II.

Mitchell Moses’ (Balmain) battle with Anthony Milford (Canberra) pits the competition’s two highest point scorers (and try scorers for that matter) against each other in a matchup which will go a long way to decide the outcome of this match.

A big challenge for the Raiders will be containing Balmain’s explosive back-rower Salesi Funaki out wide. The task will be given to Canberra’s second-row pairing of Scott Doyle and Josh Baker. Both model their game off the Raiders Shaun Fensom, tireless in defence and never shying away from a hit up.

These two young men have their work cut out for them if they want to stop Funaki and ultimately take premiership glory back to the nation’s Capital.
