Balmain Tigers Face Voluntary Administration

@Abraham said:
Wouldn't this put Leichhardt in the same category as ANZ in terms of financial returns for the club if this proposal goes ahead?

A saving of $70,000 on ground rental, plus gate takings and merchandise (I understand council will do food and beverages themselves) should surely make the ground extremely profitable to play out of. I don't know all the game day expenditure, but it would be fair to say the club would turn a dollar each time they play at Leichhardt under this proposed arrangement.

Might even make he Campbeltown Council turds rethink heir exorbitant ground rental fees in the future.

Free rent on the basis of a 10 year lease for four games per year. Thats just not gonna happen.

At a camping weekend for the last few days , which included a few nights around a campfire with approx 35 family and friends. And a drink or two!
The subject of West Tigers came up ( around the time someone was climbing a not too sturdy tree with a tv antenna in one hand, trying to get reception for the dogs game) and things got around to the Balmain problems.
Most of us there, were old WEsts or Wests Tigers supporters.
(One was a Broncos supporter, but no one ever wants to talk to him anyway.)

It was mentioned that our club is starting to look like a rabble off the field , just when we are starting to get some respect back On the field.
And a few commented that , as it looks like the Council doesn't look like getting behind the club anyway, wouldn't it be better for BAlmain to face the fact that they are unlikely to continue and allow the WT's to do whatever's needed ,to settle on grounds etc..that will be suitable for the future and not the past.
Other clubs have had to move forward , (Wests included) and no doubt others also may have to do so in the future
It was a fair point.
As I've said in the past here that my opinion is that while I am happy if both clubs stay involved -and would feel for the older BAlmain supporters if that doesn't happen.

This subject seems to come up regularly though , and causes more of the West/Balmain crap.
After the weekend I have leant towards the Argument that this club will never rise to the heights we hope for, while ever this whole mess persists, and the sooner this is sorted the better for the club( no matter which direction it goes)

Well we will only have to wait until September 2015 to find that out.

That's when we will know whether Balmain can pays its dues to the NRL and get things back on track, or if the Wests Tigers proceeds without them.

Unless they can find a white night to ride in and save them, then its just about curtains for Balmain I'd say.

Mess? b ut nothing's changed in the past 6 months, during which many positive changes have been made. Not sure what mess you're talking about because we're looking like a normal footy club for the first time in a long time right now!

I agree that a lot of positive changes have been made, , but we hear about that stuff, mainly because we are on here and talking about those good things,
to a casual supporter( and there's a lot of those) or the general public, they only hear about the things that make the papers, or the tv news, and that's been things mainly concerned about players saying that the club owes them money, or we are no longer playing at LO, or one of the partners is broke.
These things all came up at times at the gathering on the weekend.

The WT supporters among them have supported the club mostly on a casual basis.
And the impression that they have is that the club is in trouble off the field. Yes , they have seen some improvement on the field, but that impression is still there.
So yes , it is a mess, and the sooner it is resolved , the better for the club.

Theres been no news from yesterdays meeting with council. I cant see anything being decided until balmain lose or regain board spots.

I dunno , I reckon the WT's are sick of dealing with local councils

I know this will be extremely unpopular , but I have this feeling they will tell Leichhardt Council to stick it where the sun doesn't shine

Wheres that? In the glen morrison dunnies?

A recent article quotes Porteous as saying council hopes to see Balmain regain the lease at the end of the year when they are financially able. Do council know something we don't?

Everything will be business as usual for this season. Don't know why anyone would think otherwise. Council has said they will offer the same terms as what Balmain were giving them, so why would WT decline when they have already sold lots of memberships on this basis?

All games will go ahead at Leichhardt this season.

For next season and beyond there's now an opportunity to negotiate a much better deal for the Tigers. They were getting ripped off before, and the council doesn't want to risk having an unused stadium. They'll obviously want a long term commitment in exchange for generous contractual terms and thats fair enough.

I love LO and have many fond memories of growing up watching games there, but it's time we looked at walking away. Leichhardt council are probably pissing themselves at the idea of losing $250,000 worth of rental revenue and all the upkeep they'll have to manage on top of that. Leave them in the financial burden with no income, then maybe they'll have an idea of what it is to be Balmain Leagues Club.

Tell them to punch it up their arse, the area doesn't deserve the Wests Tigers, or the Balmain Tigers for that matter.

Didn't expect you to say that 😱pen_mouth:

Good thing is either way is we have the upper ground in negotiations and can walk away if not happy and will still benefit if we do

Good position to be in imo

Over it Happy. I'm not happy that we have to pay to play in Campbelltown, but at least they want us to play more games there and represent the area a little more.

Leichhardt council couldn't give a stuff. They were happy to lease the ground to Balmain and take their money and screw their development over in the same sitting. This has adversely affected the Wests Tigers as a result and that's what has me annoyed.

CB,couldn't agree more with you sentiments,Liechardt council has a lot to answer for, they should have tried to do a heap more for the Balmain Tigers as they were a draw card for the area….you are right, take their money but bend them over at the same time....

Apparently on the BSB this morning it was announced there would only be 2 games at Leichhardt this yr. Anyone hear that?

From Balmain Tigers Fangroup Facebook page

**Tigers guaranteed Home Games at Leichhardt Oval**
>
Tigers have been guaranteed the four scheduled First grade home games at Leichhardt Oval HQ under the new arrangements with Leichhardt Council.
Leichhardt Mayor Clr Rochelle Porteous assured The Weekly Times this week that the current arrangements would stand in relation to the Tigers use of the Leichhardt stadium.
However the fight continues with Leichhardt Council over the redevelopment of the Balmain Tigers Leagues Club on the Victoria Road site at Rozelle.
Tigers fans and supporters are urged to attend the vital Leichhardt Council meeting at the Council Chambers on Tuesday April 28 at 7pm.

The realisation that they will have to pour money into maintenance of a venue behind the times without revenue from a lease has them hitting panic stations.

The irony is delicious given how they've repeatedly given the Tigers the middle finger for their Leagues club development.
