Banji may seek release to play rugby in japan

Just proves a few things.

If True:
The NRL contractual system is a joke.
WT need a hard look at themselves to allow their marquee, number 1 marketing person, senior player to play in a rival code which will undoubtedly have an effect on his performances and mental position.
Benji, maybe make a choice if you want to stay 100% committed to the club, or 0% and leave, because it aint fair to the other players.

If False:
carry on..

Banjo….. That gave me a laugh.
As for the story. ....BS move on don't loose any sleepoverot

If he kicks up a stink this time get rid of him.

I would be devastated if Banjo left but I would never say to get rid of him. Ever.
That is just anger and emotion without reason. Even if I found Benji in bed with my missus I still wouldn't want him out!

:roll WHAT???

My statement is not without reason mate…

1\. The NRL's marque players are the sports commodities. They are the people who get supporters and especially kids through the turnstyles each weekend. For them to turn their back on the sport for 3-4 months per year would be a shocking look.

2\. With trials, premiership rounds, finals and rep games, blokes like Marshal are already playing upwards of 30 games per year now. Adding another dozen could only be detrimental to their longevity.

3\. He is an ambassador of Rugby League in Australia and New Zealand. He should not be allowed to promote another sport - especially a rival code.

4\. It will create an us and them mentality among the playing group. While the team is out every day in the 30 plus degree Aussie sun busting their balls in preseason training, he would be treated like a king and missing out on the hard yakka that bonds the playing group.

5\. It would create resentment among other high profile players...i.e. Farah would not be able to do this, unless he played as a halfback, he wouldnt make it in Union as the forwards have a very specialised role.

6\. The chance of injury would be excessively amplified leaving us as the victims of this endevour.

7\. He would miss out on all the ball sessions conducted here...meaning he wouldnt be forging a relationship with a halves partner or any new players in our squad...(there will be quite a few next year one would assume as this years U/20's proceed to first grade).

8\. He is already a poor defender. How would 3-4 months playing rugby help this?

9\. He would miss the start of the season. Absolutely unacceptable. The last few seasons have shown that you need to be on your game from round one as the salary cap has ensured that competition for the 8 is getting tighter every year.

10\. Benji still works for the Wests Tigers during the off season. He would have to miss out on important scheduled events with sponsors, coaching clinics and the such.

I am all for the players getting what they can from the sport, but renting yourself out to a rival code is not on in my books. If I was boss, none of the turncoats who went to union would have been allowed to return to league.

I agree with your comments Stryker, well said. :stuck_out_tongue: But I think we should not be jumping to any conclusions on this matter, until Benji or the club informs us that it is happening 😕

They all complain about the season is tooo long and if this is true then that should stop then!!! Don't agree as they miss the preseason workouts and don't get the downtime needed to be ready for another season. They choose one or the other.. I also don't agree the the SBW thing as he is not bigger than the game and I look forward to everyone targeting him!!!

If it did happen - Siro 5/8th Miller Half (Braith backup 5/8th - currently lock) and Brooks' son to be groomed for first grade as well.

We have never had this many options in the halves!

His manager may use the excuse that he is trying to help Benji but if Benji is mature enough he will look at it this way;

Playing in Japan in the off season will deinitely increse the risk of incurring an injury serious enough to greatly diminish his future playing capability.

Tauber is on FOX now, saying this story is not quite true,he hasn't approached the club,Benji is committed to the club until 2015,and he might look at it in the later part of his contract(2015),a nothing story with no substance again from the DT.

Thank the Daily Telegraph for another non-factual nonsense drama story. Who is the editor and why doesn't he get sasked for such rubbish?

Tauber was fishing for the story and he got a bite from DT.

Now he can do as always and claim it to be not true for reasons x & y and thus he has promoted his clients name, taken time from the high profile $BW media cycle and done it all for the cost of a few conversations.

It will also boost the value of the fluff piece and photos of his January wedding that Martin will be pimping to the usual suspects

Email received from WT regarding Benji going to Rugby Union in Japan.

AN UPDATE FROM WESTS TIGERS CEO STEPHEN HUMPHREYS
Dear Wests Tigers Members,

As many of you are aware, there have been media reports this morning suggesting Wests Tigers star Benji Marshall may seek a release from his current contract with the Club.

Let me put your minds at rest. This will not be happening.

I have spoken with Benji’s manager, Martin Tauber, this morning who assures me that Benji is totally committed to his contract with Wests Tigers for the next three seasons.

The most important message for you, as a Wests Tigers Member, is that Benji Marshall will remain an integral member of our team and will not be seeking a release from his contract.

Benji is currently with his team-mates at a pre-season training camp on the Central Coast. The boys have been working very hard under the watchful eye of new NRL Coach Mick Potter and Physical Performance Manager Hayden Knowles.

The team has really enjoyed interacting with our supporters on the Central Coast as was evident by the large turnout at The Dam Hotel in Wyong on Monday night.

Let me also take the opportunity to thank the many of you who have already renewed your Membership for 2013.

On behalf of everyone at Wests Tigers, we greatly appreciate your support and I’ll provide you with further updates on the Club on a regular basis.

Yours sincerely,

Stephen Humphreys

Chief Executive Officer

I was out this morning and it was presented on the news in an extremely misleading way. Basically the take out I got was Marshall was asking for an immediate release from his contract and was leaving the NRL. Even for FM radio news it was very sloppy reporting.

Tauber now on Fox Sports. Basically says it is a non-story.

Not seeking a release. If we wanted to get a clearance he'd need to talk to club and NRL.
Contracted until 2015, nothing has changed.
No "official" talks about playing in Japan
Story this morning was misleading
Too late this season to play in Japan anyway - not going to happen.
Mentions previous attempt that Gallop knocked back. Talks about restraint of trade at the time.
Says next year with the RLWC he won't be able to do it either.

Credit where credits due, nice work Humpty for getting out on the front foot and squashing the rumour before it snowballs out of control and where in the papers for all the wrong reasons. Well played

Did this story emanate from the Daily Telegraph?..The same media outlet that openly displays its hatred for the Wests Tigers and continually publishes stories that are false?…enough said....Is there a case for defamation here?

It was in both the SMH and DT this morning, not sure which one had the scoop tho.
