It helps if you type complete sentences. I'm pretty good, but I'm not a mind reader.

By the way (can I use BTW?) The moving on line is the classic deflection tactic when the argument is lost. Cheers.

you know what they say about assumptions!

BTW congrats on the win

Unfortunately disguised swearing is creeping back in..We are sorry we hold this forum to a higher standard than others..deleting posts and banning users isn't something we want to do

It really isn't that difficult

I totally understand trying to maintain a high quality and sense of decorum, particularly if you are trying to appeal to the family crowd (or the club itself) but in all honesty acronyms that are "disguised swearing" are nearly superfluous to the point of not even carrying their original meanings, much like lol is. In 2020 anyone who has access to a computer is exposed to profanity. I have seen swear words that are banned on here printed in national newspapers these days.

I don't think terms like the one this guy used are considered offensive to anyone that uses the internet. Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp, Reddit, Snapchat, all vastly widely used sites that have far lower standards when it comes to language standards. It doesn't negatively affect their reputation amongst families, corporates or the like to any significant detriment. They are among the most popular sites in the world

Notwithstanding it might be less work for you and your mod team if you actually let the acronyms go and worry about real offensive language and antisocial behaviour.

Lastly, I have been on this forum since the first month it existed (I am MacDougall) and you have had these rules in place that entire time yet throughout it's history I have seen and been part of that are far more negative, toxic, tilting and detrimental to the health of the forum than an occasional acronym hidden profanity.

At the end of the day myself, and I am sure a lot of others end up just accepting the standards you enforce because it's a privately run site and it's your prerogative to ban or reprimand people for whatever standards you like but that's about it. I'm sure some people do enjoy it, but I bet dollars to donuts it's actually frustrating for most people having to self moderate, particularly given the emotion that comes with supporting this team.

Also given the site's acronym is also an extremely common "disguised swear" I actually thought it was named that way on purpose tongue in cheek all along.

Anyway as I said, it's a privately owned forum and I am nobody so by all means enforce whatever standards you like. I am just sharing my user experience as a longtime user.

Well said Mac... Great post

See Aesopian, that's actually more offensive than Josh's acronym. That's playing the man not the ball.
That is such a demeaning and totally unnecessary comment typical of lefty luvvies who want to shout down an alternative point of view. Insulting, me instead of arguing the points I raised in my original post. In your first reply, you tried to shout me down by telling me to go away. That's my entire point - you would prefer that anyone with a different view should go away. For a moment there I thought this was an open forum. Sure there rules but as I posted earlier, that maybe they need to be reconsidered. A perfectly reasonable position that reasonable people would understand

So you think the mods are radical lefties for not allowing swearing? As was pointed out earlier, this is a privately run site. They are entitled to run it how they want. What you’re complaining about is the equivalent of walking into someone’s house and getting uppity when they ask you to leave for being abusive. Damn lefties.

Its Easy - Feel free to agree or not, be articulate or not, just dont swear, dont go overboard and dont abuse someone via keyboard.

Totally agree with all that, but my question is when did the two letters that Josh used together become a reason for deleting posts? I’ve seen it used freely on here by many people (myself included) for years without penalty, now suddenly it’s become unacceptable? It’s hardly worth deleting a post for it. Expletive tirades, out and out swearing & abuse of other forum members for sure, but a couple of letters together in a sentence to express a point, really? It’s a bit precious don’t you think?

they have been lax in policing it and now we know they want it to go back to it's usually high standard then we have to follow

I have seen some use the letters B and S and I just shrug my shoulders and ignored it, but that doesn't mean it is right - it is disguised swearing

instead of the letters B and S then he could've just said "that's crap"?

Well it’s sure been a long time without it being policed.

Fair enough, it’s just the inconsistency of it all that gets me. You spend time and effort trying to write a post then suddenly it’s deleted and you don’t really know why because you haven’t written anything in it that you haven’t used before. Then you can’t be bothered writing it all again, so there goes your who!e point and engagement with the conversation in the thread. Maybe someone can put up a more detailed list of what is not acceptable so we all know where we stand a bit more clearly?

But as Geo said ...can you imagine having trying to read every post 24/7

Some get missed ....we are all human

I bet Geos fingers got sore sorting through the posts that werent acceptable...

Missed this post earlier, brilliantly said mate! Especially the bit about having to self moderate whilst supporting this team - using an expression like “oh shucks, we’re playing terrible again” just doesn’t cut it with our mob ?

No swearing is one thing, sure don't want this forum turning into the kennel, but who does disguised swearing hurt? Who decides the rules? Was there a vote? The forum is created for its users. Should we poll for all users to vote on when determining such rules?

Otherwise what's to stop the forum turning into one of those Facebook groups where power hungry mods boot out anyone for anything they don't like.

I know mods are volunteers and I'm not having a go at them at all, just the systems in place and how we can possibly improve them

Does it matter? Has that happened over the years?

It’s not a new rule.
That rule has been here for ages, people have been getting posts removed and warnings in threads for years

If someone says something they shouldn’t the post may get deleted and a person may (most times wouldn’t) get a warning.

If people keep offending then thats on them not the mods and of course will get banned.

If people complain about how they are treated it’s because they can’t handle being called out on being in the wrong. That’s not on the mods.

People are making a big deal over nothing in this case.

Disguised swearing has been a breach of forum rules for years. It's not hard not to swear on here. It's one of the standards we uphold and if you don't type or abbreviate nasty words you won't have a problem. It really is that simple.

People are reacting as if its a state owned asset and we all have a God given right to be here. The rules are the rules, if you dont like the rules, you dont have to be here.

I’d like to volunteer to be banned. My avatar is a grinning cat holding up a #WTF sign. It might stand for Wests Tigers Football but then again...

I know it is and has been, but who made it a rule? Kids are exposed to swearing and sexual innuendo on primetime tv on pg rated shows, and that's cool, but a sports forum when someone wants to blow off some steam it's not?

Fans of a club like ours need to be given a break. We're a joke and the most frustrating sports team in Australia. Sometimes people need to vent. Maybe there can be a vent post where swearing or disguised swearing is allowed, and those who don't want to be exposed to that behaviour can steer clear?

Just a thought

I don't know, I think Mariners fans might have cause to lay claim to that too.
