You know... There's swearing and there's letting off steam

Imo the initials for bulldust (how insane I cannot type two letters) is not swearing, it's in everyday language,.on all other forms of media... It's everywhere and we're adults, the argument " oh there's kids on here"... I really wonder why kids would be here they can't form convoys other than text messages or I l❤️v benji etc

Seriously, yes... Crass vulgar swearing is not necessary and shouldn't be here...

I notice no official responded to macdougall brilliant thoughts on this, the amount of replies here suggesting this topic could be reviewed but the pig headedness of the official replys to that really just lead me to think we are treated like children here

I just LOL

Of course using the initials is swearing, what else do you mean by those letters than the words you are using them to represent?

I’d like to volunteer to be banned. My avatar is a grinning cat holding up a #WTF sign. It might stand for Wests Tigers Football but then again...

Used to think it quite funny when disguised swearing was being picked up a few years back, yet for a long period there was a selectable flag emoji with those three letters followed by a ? on it here that was used quite a bit for effect and always my go to option.

For my two bobs worth, a phrase which I was regularly hearing in my formative years, so a good while ago, I don't think the word beginning with the third letter above should be commonplace here, but it has become so in society over the years and one that has replaced others such as "gosh". We have to find a balance in moving with the times and for mine, enabling the use of a couple of letters instead of male bovine excrement for descriptive emphasis is part of that, especially when we have to instead use a crap word to escape sanction.

There has to be a line, but does it need to be hard-and-fast, without some room for flexibility as language evolves?

HAHA I remember once the autocorrect wouldn't allow us to use the word "fullback" as it started with "fu" and ended "ck"

Every forum and online platform has its differences. I wouldn't be the only person to say that this place is "overmoderated". But for whatever reason, I do enjoy it as they take a lot of the dribble out. With most forums, I used to just scroll past 90% of the posts as they were spam or people talking out of frustration. I'd say every other forum is like our "live game threads" LOL.

Would you be offended if I described a dud ref's call at the footy "that's a bee ess call if your family there?

It's in common everyday language nowadays... It's not 1935

I wouldn't like it, I wouldn't tell you to stop but I wouldn't want my child walking around repeating that language, even the letters.

This is a much better forum than the trash on "The Kennel".
I'm glad that foul language is not permitted on here.

Yes that is a very poor forum where anything goes.

Fair call but there's a huge difference between what's allowed on this forum and what's allowed on The Kennel. I think the argument is around whether we are too strict , not whether we should descend into the gutter with The Kennel. It's a discussion, not a revolt.

That's a million times better than
Caught Willy bowled Dilly out Lillee

Using foul language in general conversation CAN be offensive.
Swearing at someone IS offensive.
Typing a 2 letter abbreviation for a word similar to crap, NOT offensive.

Words needs to be taken into context, common sense should prevail.

Why do you want to be able to use disguised swearing?

Unfortunately disguised swearing is creeping back in..We are sorry we hold this forum to a higher standard than others..deleting posts and banning users isn't something we want to do

It really isn't that difficult

I totally understand trying to maintain a high quality and sense of decorum, particularly if you are trying to appeal to the family crowd (or the club itself) but in all honesty acronyms that are "disguised swearing" are nearly superfluous to the point of not even carrying their original meanings, much like lol is. In 2020 anyone who has access to a computer is exposed to profanity. I have seen swear words that are banned on here printed in national newspapers these days.

I don't think terms like the one this guy used are considered offensive to anyone that uses the internet. Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp, Reddit, Snapchat, all vastly widely used sites that have far lower standards when it comes to language standards. It doesn't negatively affect their reputation amongst families, corporates or the like to any significant detriment. They are among the most popular sites in the world

Notwithstanding it might be less work for you and your mod team if you actually let the acronyms go and worry about real offensive language and antisocial behaviour.

Lastly, I have been on this forum since the first month it existed (I am MacDougall) and you have had these rules in place that entire time yet throughout it's history I have seen and been part of that are far more negative, toxic, tilting and detrimental to the health of the forum than an occasional acronym hidden profanity.

At the end of the day myself, and I am sure a lot of others end up just accepting the standards you enforce because it's a privately run site and it's your prerogative to ban or reprimand people for whatever standards you like but that's about it. I'm sure some people do enjoy it, but I bet dollars to donuts it's actually frustrating for most people having to self moderate, particularly given the emotion that comes with supporting this team.

Also given the site's acronym is also an extremely common "disguised swear" I actually thought it was named that way on purpose tongue in cheek all along.

Anyway as I said, it's a privately owned forum and I am nobody so by all means enforce whatever standards you like. I am just sharing my user experience as a longtime user.

Missed this post earlier, brilliantly said mate! Especially the bit about having to self moderate whilst supporting this team - using an expression like “oh shucks, we’re playing terrible again” just doesn’t cut it with our mob ?

Hah the number of posts I’ve deleted before posting is huge.
