No swearing is one thing, sure don't want this forum turning into the kennel, but who does disguised swearing hurt? Who decides the rules? Was there a vote? The forum is created for its users. Should we poll for all users to vote on when determining such rules?

Otherwise what's to stop the forum turning into one of those Facebook groups where power hungry mods boot out anyone for anything they don't like.

I know mods are volunteers and I'm not having a go at them at all, just the systems in place and how we can possibly improve them

Disguised swearing has been a breach of forum rules for years. It's not hard not to swear on here. It's one of the standards we uphold and if you don't type or abbreviate nasty words you won't have a problem. It really is that simple.

I know it is and has been, but who made it a rule? Kids are exposed to swearing and sexual innuendo on primetime tv on pg rated shows, and that's cool, but a sports forum when someone wants to blow off some steam it's not?

Fans of a club like ours need to be given a break. We're a joke and the most frustrating sports team in Australia. Sometimes people need to vent. Maybe there can be a vent post where swearing or disguised swearing is allowed, and those who don't want to be exposed to that behaviour can steer clear?

Just a thought

I don't know, I think Mariners fans might have cause to lay claim to that too.

Nah, they don't tease their fans that they may actually be competitive. They just know they're last.

Swearing may be acceptable to some but that doesn't mean it is to everyone, if you swore in front of me you would probably get away with it but if your swore in front of my wife and daughter then I would definitely ask you to stop. I have done it at football games when someone has sworn in front of them and the response is always "its a game of footy. come on!" I don't care if it is footy related you do not swear in front of my wife and kids. We have kids that use this forum so swearing is not ok, frustration or not I would questions someone's vocab if they are unable to get their point across without swearing.

But, I don't know if you or they are radical lefties or for that matter, puritans. I simply asked for the rules to be reviewed given that the expression that was used is part of our cultural vernacular. If anyone on here has never used that expression then please cast the first stone.

As I said, I didn't get a chance to read the original post by Josh. I can't comment, therefore, on the context of the expression.

We are all expected to behave responsibly in the forum and I appreciate that there may be underaged kids reading these posts. With that in mind, if it was indeed such an outrageous & irresponsible use of that expression then the Mods have every right to do what they did, which presumably was to delete the post.

So to my original point, Why can't the rules be reviewed or like some forums, have a filter system applied to place asterisks where potentially naughty words might appear?

Finally, in Josh and every decent person's defence who uses the same acronym to describe the phrase in question, they have consciously tried to self censor the expanded expression in order to mitigate any potential harm to those who may truly be offended.

Cheers

Twice Ive asked fans around me not to swear out loud (within reason...I let some slide) when my wife and kids were with me. First time the guy was very apologetic, understood and all was cool. Second time the guy gave me the "Its the footy man" excuse and his mate hit his arm and said "C'mon mate" and all was cool.

I've heard the "its footy" reply so many times, My response to that always is that my daughter has as much right to be there as they do and she shouldn't have to be subjected to their language.

Can anyone else see the irony of this current conversation, in a thread where we are discussing someone being banned for using an acronym to disguise low level swearing, and justifying it because there could be kids reading? Or is it just me?

It's simple..if it is let slide..it grows and gets to a point of the Kennel and LU....where you spend half your time having to delete posts ..moderate arguments..clean up direct abuse of other posters..

Swearing doesn't make anyone's vent or opinion valid..it was nothing about shutting down the post or opinion..

I feel people think the mods want to delete and ban users ..that is far from the truth..the fact is posts rarely get deleted at all..it would be less than 0.02% of all posts made
