Being realistic

Today was the first game we've lost this year that you would look at and expect us to win.

Knights away
Manly away
Melbourne away

These three teams are simply better sides than us and I did not expect us to win any of those games.

Penrith home
Parramatta home

Both teams we should be beating, yet we performed poorly in both of them IMO.

For me, the losses against Melbourne and even today were better than the wins against the Eels and Panthers.

Today was disappointing beyond words, it really was. As you said it was the first game we were expected to win that we lost, well Tigers fans would have expected to win anyway, i know i did. I don't think it matters that Marshall wasn't there cos we had more than enough chances in the first half to put ourselves in a winning position, but besides glimpses from Farah we showed zero creativity.

We had all the momentum going for us when we got back to 12-all, but once Aysford bombed that try we popped like a lead balloon. Would have been our third try in as many sets. We were coming to get them

As far as what it means for our season, i said before the start of the yr we could really go either way, so our disappointing start hasn't been too much of a surprise to me. Just hope that we can blood a few young guys and hopefully unearth 2 or 3 keepers, which would hold them in good stead for 2014 and beyond. If we can do that and somehow manage to sneak into 7th or 8th than we'll have had a good yr

if i'm going to be realistic, our forwards have stepped up and given enough opportunities and exceeded my expectations.
youngsters are holding their own out there.

but the backs are simply being left behind.
nobody is working the numbers and there is zero skill at the line.
unless you put them through a 10 yard gap, they won't trouble you,and even then they probably won't finish the play.

Spot on. Disappointing because we should have won and had so many chances but bombed certain tries. However the forwards are finally looking like they belong in first grade and defence is getting better (around the ruck at least) so there are some things to be positive about. Funnily enough I feel better about this year even after 2 wins after 6 rounds than I did at any stage last year. The team just needs to win a few of these close games against solid teams to get some belief in their chances and in Potters game plan. The next 4 rounds are shaping up as crucial. We can either build on what we have or regress with a few bad losses which would be disastrous given our history of mental weakness.

Yes sir,

My thoughts exactly. Forwards are doing well enough. We still need a halfback and our centres are out of form.

Yesterdays effort by Dragons was extremely poor. The most amazing thing is that we could not find a way to effectively exploit their deficiencies and we also found a way to make Soward look good. From where I was sitting he was very ordinary. Why did we persist with kicking on the last out to Morris' wing ? Probably one of the tallest players on the ground. I think I saw lucky to be 3 runs from forwards where they were not walking on to the ball and on the rare occasion one of them ran onto the ball, we get on the board as Murdoch-Masala did. The Tigers handed that game to the Dragons yesterday. Lawrence and Ayshford bombed tries, with the Dragons tries coming from a bouncing pass out to their winger and another from a one on one missed tackle. The Tigers had their chance yesterday to put the foot down, play hard and tough up the middle and show that we can put 30 points on without Marshall, Galloway, Korobete and Fulton. But instead we managed to lower ourselves to the oppositions level and gave it away.

Hard to argue with that.

IMO our defense has improved and our forwards have been great. Our backs have been absolutely awful.

Exactly right, I'd even put it down to our centres which are letting us down, esp. the left-hand fringe.
As well as that we have a fullback on the wing, an under performing centre and an ever-changing halves pairing.

I very much agree with this. The season is not all doom and gloom like many on this forum seem to think it is.
There has been a few injuries and the side has far from clicked but there are still opportunities to get the season back on track.

I agree, i reckon we have been about as expected for 4 of the 5 rounds.
We are a middle of the road team and are giving middle of the road performance, we beat the 2 weak teams, lost to the 2 good teams, after giving the m a good run before class and experience got them home. We than lost by a point to the other middle of the road team….
People on the forum talk in extremes, everyone is either awesome or terrible, truth is almost everyone is in between.
If we win the close ones this year we will finish bottom of the 8, if we dont we will finish 10-12, i reckon that is what most people thought before a ball was kicked, and it is shaping up that way
