Belinda Sharpe breaks new ground as first female NRL referee

I wonder if the players are more respectful towards a female ref than a male one? It could be a really strong move to help keep players in line.

You would assume so ......
But If she’s as incompetent as her male counterparts the novelty will soon wear off .
Hope she gets a Storm game and tells Scam Smith to shove it lol .

Isn't she the touch judge who missed a NQ foot into touch in an u/20's semi that saw the Wests Tigers eliminated? Perfect grounding & deserving of promotion.

Yep.
Also the touch judge that did nothing to try and stop play when Nene Macdonald went down with a broken ankle earlier this year.

Best of luck to her though, God knows we need a shake up of the refereeing ranks.

Thia is great. I reckon she'll shoot straight to the top ranked ref. Not that I know of her ability, but the bar is pretty low at the moment and women in general have less ego. Players won't rush her either I don't think (well maybe Moses will) It's got to the point it of being ridiculous with the amount of carry on after a try is scored or after a dropped ball. Good luck Belinda.

Is she related to a Sutton?

Why not give her a go? The bar couldn't be set any lower at the moment.

Very ture ...But I dont care if it's a man women or unicorn just do a good job but if she does a bad job criticism is just and if she does a good job tell her so

I’m going train my parrot so in ten years he will have the rights to ref as well.

So you’re saying only men have the right to be a ref?

@Tiger_Steve

Does the womens comp have women refs?

Have you asked that question before or has anyone asked that since 1908?

But if she’s good enough, fit enough - one of the best, then why not ref the premier competition? Good luck to her I say.

Fair opinion you have.
Oh well I guess if the games boring and she’s a fair lass at least we can pay attention to the ref running back and forth sweating!!!
Oh no, can I say that? or is that abuse these days!

@TIGERAURA No, just old fashioned and ignorant.👎

Ohh it must be this climate change its increased my testosterone 👍

@TIGERAURA mate! She’s got 20/20 and no meat and threeveg to be complicating things, if maybe just the players are capable of respecting her, then she may finally get our supporters back on side with refs and stop getting dudded ! Surely you’re all for that

All I know is the status quo isn't working, so I'm not against them appointing someone who isn't a bloke. Hopefully she does a better job. The players need an official there that will take them to task, and I'm hoping she'll go in with that attitude.

This will get taken the wrong way no doubt , but seeing the male referees get left for dead by the current players speed wise I can't possibly see how it will be any easier for Belinda

Current male referees are making errors under fatigue , again I struggle to see how Belinda will cope any better

I'm just using the current athletic records as a guide , but when males are compared to females they lose 1 second every 100 metres

If I sound like I'm being sexist I'm not , just being a realist

To make the right call , you have to be in the right position to make the right call

@Cultured_Bogan
She will do a wonderfull job Im sure she refereed the womens state of orgin and did quite a good the players will have to give her the respect she deserves because she has the whistle and national audience watching and no player would be game to make an a hole of himself on national TV
