Ben Barba eyeing NRL Return

@ said:
I must admit I find it extremely depressing that the objections to Barba based on off-field stuff are all about recreational drugs rather than the fact he beat up his girlfriend (and had it covered up by his then club). If I had to work with someone who does a bit of coke at the weekend or someone who occasionally gets angry and hits his wife I know which I'd prefer.

I am with you on this and what makes it worse is the now CEO of the game swept it under the carpet.

Like 2041, I'm not worried about the blow issues, I'm not comfortable with us signing wife bashers.

Happy to take packer tho?
Jumped on a guys head…...

In a manner of speaking I am because he was caught, trialled and punished for his actions and has kept his nose clean since. To say I'd be over the moon to have Packer is an overreach as well though.

At least I know where you stand on domestic violence now though Demps.

Um, he's got offers from half a dozen other French clubs. He's not going anywhere and nor has he or his agent suggested he might come back to the NRL. Just his old coach got sacked and the new coach doesn't want him. Other clubs do.

He's not coming back to the NRL and even if he did I wouldn't want him, and nor would Cleary i'm pretty sure.

I agree with you here. I'm not massively thrilled about Packer, but I fundamentally believe that if someone is convicted by the justice system and serves whatever punishment it deems fit they shouldn't subsequently be denied the opportunity to make a living.

On the other hand, there are too many of these wife beating germs floating round who've never done so much as a week's suspension for their actions let alone been convicted for them. I'd rather my club wasn't part of the structure that normalises domestic violence by brushing it under the carpet.

Two sides to every story.

men shouldn't beat women.
But is a woman allowed to beat a man ?
In my eyes. No.

We should all live in safety,
However defend ourselves when threatened.

Your mate the war machine hospitalised his partner. Another roided up freak of nature that can't keep his neanderthal emotions in check. He's lower than pond scum.

But I digress…

Maybe he's sick of being paid bucket loads of money to play very few games with little pressure. Plus there would be lots of hot young French babes trying to get him into bed. You can see how that would wear you down after a while…

I'm not sure when an NRL club is next likely to sign a woman who has beaten up her partner but you can rest assured that when it does I will think seriously about my moral view of the situation. Thanks for this useful contribution to the discussion of Ben Barba, a man who beat up his girlfriend.

Lets face it if your talented someone is more inclined to take a risk and make allowances for past indiscretions.

I'll never defend abuse to women.

However always two sides to the story with the truth somewhere in the middle.

Barba is some one we could really use, abuse history aside.

I'm by no means a social justice warrior but with the talk of Paker, Fergusun and now Barba i find myself struggling to find any benefits of having convicted scumbags near the club. I'd love to watch Wests win more games but at the end of the day it's a game and these blokes have all done some pretty horrendous stuff.

It may be hypocritical but I'd be ok if it was recreational drug usage or using being caught "bubbling" its just the DV or over the top beating paker gave that bloke i find hard to look past. To be honest I'd rather support a loosing team that I can support every player than a wining team that makes me feel dirty every time I watch.

I think we are long odds of securing them anyways so it wont be a worry

I think u maybe should be going to church every weekend rather than watching football, I don't condom what some have done but if there allowed to play we may as well have them with us rather than against us. for years we have been MR NICE GUY, BUT WHERE HAS THAT GOT US. NO WHERE.
